How Important Print, Broadcast, and New Media To Our Lives

The 3 components of media are very important. Print media is the oldest among the three. The contribution in print media is providing information and moving of comprehension or for gathering and publishing news. Broadcast media, which encompasses television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and digital media such as that of the Internet, emails, and texts, involves electronically and simultaneously sending information containing signals, print messages, and audio or video content to a wide audience. Any digitally delivered media, from newspaper articles and blogs to music and podcasts, is considered different media. Any internet-related form of communication, from a website or email to mobile phones and streaming apps, can be considered new media. As the literacy rate rises, the printing media gains a solid foothold in the country. It has begun publishing up-to-date news in print. This both helps the daily circulation of the news and spreads the news to every corner of the country. Print media is a method of publishing any type of news in a printed format. Print media is highly vital nowadays for everyone. For hundreds of years, print media has existed. The printing press, developed by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440, was the first device that served to promote the notion of printing text. Print media evolved as a key source of news for the following 600 years or so. Books, newspapers, magazines, and newsletters are examples of print media, which are light, portable, disposable periodicals printed on paper and disseminated as physical copies. Another factor for the significance of print media is that it establishes credibility. Customers will notice that you are serious about your business and offer a valuable product or service if you invest in printed materials

On the other hand, Speeches, documentaries, interviews, ads, financial markets, daily news, and so much more are all available through the broadcasting media. Because it attracts to both the aural and visual senses, broadcast television allows even illiterate people to easily disseminate news, making it one of the most profitable types of mass communication. Broadcast media includes all aspects of media that are broadcast. That is, it is sent as a signal, and in the vast majority of situations, this refers to either television or radio. Traditional forms of media such as television and radio are referred to as broadcast media. In this digital era, it may appear antiquated. However, it continues to play an important role in bringing ideas, goods, services, news, and information to a large audience. Locally, regionally, nationally, and worldwide, information moves over a communications network. New media connects individuals in new and unexpected ways, allowing users to retain friendships beyond time and location. It allows persons who are isolated and lonely or otherwise separated from their immediate physical group to connect with others who share their interests or are in a similar situation. Digital media also allows for greater understanding by facilitating connection across economic, social, cultural, religious, political, and ideological barriers. The way most small businesses function has changed and continues to evolve as a result of new media. Unlike "old media" formats such as televisions, radios, and paper-based periodicals, which have one-way communication pathways, new media technology is both digital and interactives. From engaging with consumers to making it simpler to compete with larger organizations, the benefits of the internet, electronic communications, and social media for most small businesses are as diverse as their applications.

Understanding the Relevance of Information Literacy in the Midst of Social Era

Information literacy is vital for today's learners because it improves problem-solving approaches and critical thinking abilities. Information literacy equips us with the abilities we need to understand when we need an information, where to find it, and how to use it efficiently and effectively, allowing us to manage with data smog. As a result, it will improve productivity and decision making, which will benefit the society. Information literacy is a skill that can be used throughout one's life. The need for information keeps us up to date on current happenings, trends, and fashions. This also helps us in general in learning new things. Furthermore, information is used to share new understanding and to assist us in making important decisions. Information is all around us, it comes in different formats and is essential for our decision making and problem solving activities whether at work, in education or at home.

 An informative literate person can identify, find, evaluate, apply and acknowledge an information. Information literacy is important in today’s generation and learners because it promotes thinking skills which will help them to become confide. In the midst of social era, it is very important to understand the relevance of information because it influences us in our daily lives. It is what gives us access to reliable data which we can use for decision making or can even help us learn new skills. Access to these information especially in this age can be very helpful in whatever field we are in. A lot of these information are used nowadays to express ourselves as well in schools and even in the workplace or businesses for some. This is also beneficial especially for learners, like us, because it keeps us stay connected to people, ideas and things that are essential in our lives.

Media and Government: A Love-Hate Relationship

There is what we call a love-hate relationship between the media and the government. There are so many ways why politicians loves the media. First is their good reputation, which can be easily recognized for their efforts. Politicians and government officials somehow love the media because it is a tool of communication which they are not capable of doing themselves. Hate relationship on the other hand, the media sometimes are publishing fake news so that the government would take action against it. Even today, the media and the government still have this love-hate relationship. But at the end of the day, they still need each other in order to gain information and make profit from it. The government needs the media to tell the country what they have done good, so that they can have a good record and many more people will support and vote for them in the future elections. On the other hand, the media continues to rely on the government because this is where they make the most money out of it. It could be by spreading good or negative news, or even fake news.

 Some media thinks it doesn't matter what information they spread, as long as they are making lots of money from it, especially from the scandalous acts from the government. There are also media who have the values of integrity and honesty to serve their people, which is what we really need. Even though the relationship between the media and the government in our country is not perfect, we still need them to cooperate for the people of this country. Filipinos depends on them, their lives depend on them. Governments helps, and guides us, and the media alerts and gives us important information that can save our lives. We need them both no matter what. Without media, we wouldn’t be able to be notified or alerted about what’s happening today in our world, and without our government, who would be there to discipline us and lead us to the right path? At some points, the media and the government tends to conflict with each other.

The Value of Being a Media and Information Literate Individual

The value of being a media and information literate individual is that you will have an advantage in today's world. It is critical to be current and informed about the most recent and accurate facts. Especially at this very crucial time, a person needs to be well-informed so that it will lead us to the right decisions that we have to make and the right things that we need to do. Keeping yourself well-informed and being a responsible citizen also means that you always have to check your sources of information. MIL aims to enable the individuals to think critically about the media and the information they consume by engaging in a process of inquiry and the value of being a media and information literate individual is to allow individuals to become engaged citizens and responsible decision-makers, by examining the source, context, message and the medium which it is received as well as to become skillful creators and producers of information and media messages in their own right. 

Being a Media and Information Literate Individual is very important in our lives, especially because media is so prevalent in our generation, where it is vulnerable to fake news, false information, and other things that can be found on the media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, etc. Being media and information literate allows us to grow and learn more about what is going on in our world. MIL can help us become critical thinkers, as well as friendly and communicative members of the media environment. It can also assist us in comprehending and learning from what we see, watch, and read on social media. The value of being a media and information literate individual has many advantages. One advantage is that it keeps you well-informed on new and updated reports that are very relevant especially in times of a crisis like the pandemic that we are experiencing right now. However, it is also important that you get your facts straight from a reliable source all the time. because not everything you read, particularly on social media is true and valid. Another advantage is that when we know that our data are correct, we will be able to use this for our decisions and plans. We will also be able to share correct information to other people. A perfect example will be the updated information on what to do in the pandemic crisis we are in. With the right information, we will be able to cooperate well by not going outside our homes for non-essential matters. So it is of high value that we prioritize the important and correct information by being a vigilant individual who pay attention to the right platform or media.
