My favorite parts about ace culture are black rings so we can find each other anywhere and cards (I call myself a spade all the time)
Yes yes yes! I love the idea of black rings, it just furthers that feeling of community. They’re so subtle and wouldn’t be of any interest to anyone else, but to us they’re so important!
The ace cards are lovely to have too! It’s so clever how the different types of cards relate to the different types of aces~
For those who aren’t aware: Ace of Hearts = Alloromantic Aces, Ace of Spades = Aromantic Aces, Ace of Diamonds = Grey Aces, Ace of Clubs = Questioning Aces. (The last two are not official, they’re just what I’ve seen most people use. Some aces associate the last two to different things)

What do you think when ace exclusionists say "why are gay aces considered to be gay, but cishet aces aren't considered to be straight"?
They’re exclusionists because they don’t believe asexuality is a queer identity. That’s why they’re making this argument. It also just proves they don’t care about any asexuals at all, including gay aces, which should have been obvious from the start, but let me elaborate.
You know how bisexuals aren’t “half gay, half straight”? It’s the same with the split attraction model. As this post correctly explains, it’s not “romantic orientation + sexual orientation = full orientation”. Both are just labels to describe a human. Humans are not math problems.
The reason they say stuff like that is because they don’t care about asexuals at all, they want to break us down into bits that they can pretend make us more compatible with their queer assimilation ideals.
By saying heteromantic aces are straight you are inherently saying you don’t believe asexuality is its own orientation. You are acting like it’s either a personal choice or it’s a neutral void to be filled by a romantic orientation. And it’s not. Gay aces and hetro aces and bi aces and pan aces and literally all other aces all belong in the queer community because they are asexual, full stop. Asexuality is a queer identity, and that is what exclusionists don’t believe. That is literally their whole point.
None of this is new. This BS has been going on for years. It never changes. And neither does the fact that they’re wrong.

Asexual Awareness Week continues!
As you may know, we asexuals often wear black rings on our right middle fingers to identify ourselves. Many people prefer a plain band, but some opt for gemstones set in black metal or something similarly fancy. Until very recently, I engraved the ace spectrum rings I sell with a simple spade or heart and previously only offered the ace and demi flags.
I finally got around to adding the other card suits to my shop. I never really see anything other than the spade, but all of the card suits do have different meanings for asexuals!
♤: asexual & aromantic
◇: demisexual and/or asexual & demiromantic
♧: grey asexual and/or asexual & grey romantic
♡: asexual and alloromantic
My information comes from AVEN's website as well as various online sources (most if not all cite AVEN, though). To my knowledge, these symbols are not coopting the aromantic spectrum and only serve to show an asexual person's level of romantic orientation. Aromantic rings are actually typically white.
So, *Seinfeld voice* what's the deal with the card suits? It's actually quite simple! "Asexual" is often shortened to "ace," like a playing card. We adopted the spade as our symbol because of this nickname (as in "ace of spades"), and the other card suits were adopted by other orientations falling under the ace umbrella.
The asexual flag is available as a spade or heart. The demisexual flag is available as a diamond or heart. The heart was my old option, so I have kept that. The grey ace flag is available as a club. These are only my default options. Any other combination is possible, though, since all of my rings are made to order.

Here’s an unpopular opinion that shouldn’t be unpopular: Not wanting sex is a reasonable boundary to set for literally any reason. Be it your trauma, your mental health, your sexuality, or any other factor. Your partners should respect that and they should respect you. This shouldn’t be a debate.
