What I DO believe is that you and Shane either already make enough money to live comfortably, or you're very stupid with the money you do make. Your post before this one is literally you saying how much you love a $115 tote bag, going out for breakfast burritos, and almond butter. All luxuries that most of Watcher's audience can't afford.

You know who gets most of their entertainment from YouTube? Broke people. ACTUALLY broke people. College students eating instant ramen and sneaking fries at their fast food job because they can't actually afford to buy a meal. Parents who go to buy-nothing groups on Facebook and beg for returnable cans and bottles so they can scrounge up enough money to feed their kids that night. People whose internet is subsidized by the government, and they can't afford a single subscription service but hey, YouTube is free, at least they can watch something.

It was massively tone deaf of them to say in the announcement that it's $6/month so "everyone can afford it", and it's even more tone deaf for you to say you think people think all YouTubers have Mr Beast money. It's a very bad look to insult the intelligence of people whose money you're asking for, and frankly it's turned me off from continuing to even watch their free content, and you're not even in it.

Be for fucking real right now. No one said they don't deserve to be paid fairly. Fans also deserve to be TREATED fairly.

If they need to move behind a paywall to keep the company alive and pay people fairly, that's whatever. But fans have already been disappointed in the content since Watcher launched. It's infrequent, inconsistent, it all feels forced, and it has none of the charm of the old Buzzfeed videos. It is CERTAINLY not worth $6/month.

They can choose to move behind a paywall, and WE can choose to not pay for it. If they're not producing content we feel is valuable enough to pay for, they either need to make more content that their audience values, or their company is going to go down the toilet. That's just the free fucking market system. We are not OBLIGATED to fund ANY company.
