what if joly’s health anxiety extended to their gender and sexuality? like they’re obsessive about finding the right microlabels that fit them perfectly and they’ve changed their pronouns so many times they’ve collected pins with every possible combination. they’ve been everywhere on the aro and ace spectrums. for one terrifying night they were convinced they might just be cis and straight, and bossuet and musichetta had to talk them down from a panic attack, saying they would still love them even if they were. they’ve also been a gay man and a straight woman and a lesbian and a genderqueer bisexual.
nothing seems to be the perfect fit. and of course, all their friends love and support them through everything, gently reminding them that just being queer is perfectly fine, wanting a label is perfectly fine, their journey is perfectly fine.

BUT CONSIDER THIS: Grantaire forcing Enjolras to sit down listen to decent music because he can not let this guy be 'austere in his enjoyments' if he's gonna say shit like "yeah, of course I know about the Beatles. They're the ones that cross the street."
Grantaire gently putting his headphones over Enjolras' hair. He should resist letting his fingers brush against soft curls. They do, slightly. He thinks Enjolras does not notice.
Grantaire trying not to laugh at the way Enjolras' hair springs up wildly around the headband. Enjolras glowering like a wet cat.
Enjolras grumbling as he's made to sit through the 'classics', reluctant to admit that some of them are really rather good. Grantaire watching the "this is stupid"s melt into silent understanding. Enjolras realizing what it is to do things just because you want to.
Grantaire unable to stop himself from smiling like an idiot for the entire time.
Grantaire thrilled to witness Enjolras' first ever reaction to Fleetwood Mac (Enjolras can't stop saying 'oh, wow').
Enjolras listening to Jeff Buckley.
Grantaire nervously putting on 'Lover, you should've come over', glancing at Enjolras pointedly, and knowing this the closest he will ever get to confessing.
Enjolras listening, and staring at him.

hot take that should be much more lukewarm than it is: if your feminism doesn't have room for piercings and tattoos and dyed hair and collars and animal ear headbands and stuff like that, it's not really all that feminist.
people can just do what they want. if they want to get cosmetic surgeries or use different names or pronouns or dress "weird" those things are just allowed. cringe is dead. doing things that don't affect others in any meaningful way but make you feel good is good.
people can decorate their mobility aids. wear clothes with metal studs on them. go out in horrendously loud tie-dye mess clothes. we love that. that's bodily autonomy for you.
being loudly queer and gay and trans and a feminist and disabled and a legitimate animal and a furry is cool as fuck actually it's 2023.
use whatever swear words you want. the weird old WASPs giving you stares are because they're not as cool as you.
this also goes for kinks and those who (safely and consensually) practice them btw, even that one you find weird.
"bodily autonomy but only for people who make the same decisions as me about how to decorate and use theirs" isn't good feminism practices.
go forth and be safe ofc but above all be yourself
