Week 11
Elements
Keywords
Problem and/or
Approach/Methodology
Results/Outcomes/Analysis
Conclusion
Problem statement (one sentence) introduces the topic and presents the main issue.
Motivation/Context/Problem Statement (one sentence)
The abstract is often introduced with the background context, or problem, that frames the circumstance in which the research and article will be discussed.
No topic is completely new. It is expected that you frame your original contribution as a response to the current state of knowledge in the field. To convincingly claim that your work is an original contribution to the field, you must first explain what the common wisdom currently is, which usually involves acknowledging the most influential and widely accepted claims that previous scholars have made.
Methodology
The methodology should focus on the problem statement/hypothesis and how the author went about investigating their area of research. It may include information about what makes this approach unique or how existing methodologies are being used to investigate a new subject area.
Results / Outcomes (one sentence)
What's your practice and how your practice will contribute to an area of knowledge?
This section is only applicable to abstracts if you are working on a project or research with clear outcomes. You would begin by telling your reader what the results were of the project or investigation.
This section may include raw results and/or artifacts that come from the execution of the methodology or approach.
For example: you may describe a finished design and how and where it was used.
Conclusion Reiterates the thesis/claim
Explains how and why the thesis/claim/practice might be useful to others in the field.
The conclusion explains the significance of the work or project for the field, calling attention to knowledge or principles that others might be able to use successfully in similar situations.

I am away sick this week however have referred to Canvas for lecture notes and asked my friend about the presentation. I understand that we are to analyse the structure of abstracts and begin to write our own. Unfortunately, I am not able to start this yet due to nausea and the advice from my Doctor but I will when I am better.

Week 10 SDL
Ventling, F. D. (2018). Heuristics–A framework to clarify practice-led research. Journal of Design, Art & Technology [DAT], 3(2), 122-157
Ventling, F.D (2018), inquires about a heuristic methodology in relation to practice-led artistic research. Ventling draws attention to the idea that at the heart of a heuristic exploration “lies the undeniable curiosity of the artist or designer”. Using a heuristic approach, the investigation develops and so does the self of the investigator. The research is unpredictable yet engaging. Therefore the process of investigation is responsive to personal development as the individual follows an intuitive artistic approach.
“a search for the discovery of meaning and essence in significant human experience”.

For the large minority engaged in Internet-mediated communications, the social has been “stretched out” and is no longer largely co-terminal with the nation (p. 50). There is no “turning back to some imagined past when social relations were highly localised”

EDITORIAL: INTRODUCTION TO SPECIAL ISSUE The sociocultural movement in psychology, the role of theories in sociocultural inquiries, and the theory of sociocultural models Valery Chirkov University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Asian Journal of Social Psychology (2020), 23, 119–134 DOI: 10.1111/ajsp.12409
"The human mind and its constituents—self, cognition, motivation, emotion, agency, and self-determination— are formed within and by the sociocultural communal environment in which people live and function"
"The human mind constitutes an indivisible whole with these sociocultural entities: the human sociocultural mind. The sociocultural environment and the human mind are mutually constitutive, and they continuously co-construct each other through structured and regulated social interactions in communities."

Chung YW, Im S, Kim JE. Can Empathy Help Individuals and Society? Through the Lens of Volunteering and Mental Health. Healthcare (Basel). 2021 Oct 20;9(11):1406. doi: 10.3390/healthcare9111406. PMID: 34828452; PMCID: PMC8623346.
"Volunteering has become an important aspect in our lives in that it provides benefits to individuals, organizations, communities, and societies [1]. In particular, the positive effects on volunteers have been well documented, showing that volunteering is related to physical, cognitive, and psychosocial outcomes such as increased levels of mental health, physical health, social interactions, and prosocial attitudes and behaviors e.g., [2]. The most frequently investigated outcome of volunteering is mental health [3,4] as studies have found volunteering to increase psychological well-being, life satisfaction, and happiness while reducing depression, psychological distress, stress, and burnout e.g., [5]. Moreover, volunteering has become an important facet within organizations because employee volunteering has been found to have numerous positive effects on employees. For instance, previous studies have demonstrated that when employees participate in volunteering activities, it results in higher levels of positive emotions, self-esteem, happiness, life satisfaction, psychological well-being, and lower depression levels [6,7]."
"Due to the nature of empathy, empathy can naturally result in positive outcomes. In general, empathy can have a positive effect on mental health due to its prosocial nature. For example, empathy has been suggested to enhance well-being because when individuals are empathetic to others, not only will they perceive positive feelings like happiness because they are doing something good for others, but others will feel grateful toward them which can positively influence individuals. Moreover, empathy allows individuals to feel connected with others which then can result in increased happiness and positive affect [36]. Hence, studies have found empathy to be positively associated with life satisfaction, well-being, and self-efficacy e.g., [36,37,38,39]."
Personal Hypothesis:
Society involvement will contribute to the relationship between cognitive empathy and mental health.
The practice of participation and intergroup interactions within geographical locations and environments will provide a personal sense of belonging, identity and empathy.

Folklore: The New Zealanders
Hipkins, G., Leonard, R., Carmichael, K., & Artspace (Auckland, N.Z.), Sarjeant Gallery. (1998). Folklore: The New Zealanders. Auckland [N.Z.] : Wanganui [N.Z.] : Artspace ; Sarjeant Gallery.
With considered morality, Julia Kristeva warns of a bi-polar threat that the common critic should consider before choosing sides, before dividing the nation: As an expression of hatred the glorification of origins hence finds its matching opposite in the hatred of origins. Those who repress their roots, who don't want to know where they come from, who detest their own, fuel the same hatred of self, but they think they can settle matters fleeing. On the contrary, devotees of origins anxiously seek shelter among their own, hoping to suppress the conflicts they have with them by projecting them on others, “the strangers". ⁃ Nations Without Nationalism
"The Intention to show the 'ordinary' life of this country."
"It is possible to live peacefully here. It can be very hard to do this in the towns".
"Look around New Zealand. Lots of healthy, friendly people who aren't causing much harm, in themselves but who in their innocence, ignorance and naivete are causing so much harm... Being a good joker isn't good enough".
"In New Zealand, we have space. It is our crowning glory. You can climb mountains to be alone, or simply walk along Castecliff Beach. We ought to be, and it culd be argued, that we are a nation of poets".
Locate differences in generations.
Distinguishing features.
Certify Similarities.
"Our society has an eccentric edge that gives it lots of character. We have trouble with seeing this. It's the eccentric edge that defines most people and thus most countries. If we deny that edge, we come confused as individuals."
Character development, due to cultural environments and lifestyle.
Acceptance/Celebration to be New Zealander.
