When I see Shang Tsung, I see a deeply flawed individual, however, those flaws make him much more interesting.
I personally subscribe to the belief that Shang Tsung never had a positive upbringing, he’s very obviously struggling and alone when we first meet him. What parent would allow their child to live like this, even when they’re down on their luck?
Those that aren’t there anymore.
Shang Tsung’s mother and father definitely weren’t around, be it death or abandonment, and I think he would be forced to fend for himself. I think he would pick up on the fact that people usually don’t have your what interest at heart, and coming to such conclusions so early on in life would be damaging to say the least. Finding places to sleep, finding people to follow, perhaps steal from, it’s slowly cemented in his mind that it’s every man for himself. He has no protection, he has nothing.
This mentality following him into his adolescent and eventually adult years is bound to happen as I don’t think there was much good to stop him from spiraling. Instances of injustice done towards him became prime reasons of why the world was wrong, of why someone or something was out to get him.
He needs something…someone to blame, something to take his frustration out into, someone who will validate his ever growing superiority complex.
He’s the perfect target for ‘Damashi’.
I also like to believe that while Liu Kang might’ve had good intentions building the timeline, he definitely didn’t go about things the right way. How can you punish someone for being evil when they haven’t even done the crimes yet? Would you go back in time and find a way to persecute a child who would soon grow up to be a criminal? Or would you go back in time and try to support them and help them grow?
Liu Kang placed the building blocks for Shang Tsung’s spiral, and Shang Tsung fell right into it. Setting up a scenario in which the sorcerer was poor, without power, and so down on his luck that he had to turn to scamming people to make a living made him the perfect target for Alpha Shang Tsung.
rising from the dead with a new hyperfixation. he's literally so fucking evil and stupid also do not ask avoid the ship in the bottom right corner no I will not be explaining myself.
Hey! I felt like with all things considered, the old combined symbol really needed an update. I felt like there were series that came out after it really gained popularity that needed recognition, and some that should really be left behind, so I made my own version of the combined symbol!
The basic explanation is as follows:
The biggest symbol is the classic operator symbol from marble hornets, combined with the unfinished circle from Stan Frederick, and with a clock motif in the middle to reflect MLAndersen0, as well as the arrows from EverymanHYBRID. I hope you guys enjoy this, and feel free to use it however you like! I’ve included transparent version under the cut!
