Jinx: Vi's my sister, not yours. You will never be her sister!
Caitlyn: ...
Caitlyn: You have severely misread the situation.

I’m having a lot of feelings about with the way Arcane allowed Vi, as tough as she is, to be soft.
I feel like in nearly every action-based show with “strong” main characters, they have a tendency to make them closed-off emotionally, leaning into the whole “stoic loner” vibe, etc. etc. But Vi is such a meaningful portrayal to me because yes, she has been through hell, she was traumatized by the losses in her childhood, then spent her teen/adult years in prison getting beaten by guards while agonizing in guilt over losing her sister. She’s a tough-as-nails fighter and a “beat-’em-up” action hero and exactly the sort of character you’d normally expect to see burying their emotions so they don’t seem “weak.” But instead, Vi comes along and just… loves so fucking deeply.
We saw how she was willing to sacrifice everything for her family as a teen, of course, but even as an adult who has been fucked over by the world, she’s managed to keep her “good heart.” Vi believes her sister still has good in her and wants more than anything to reconnect with her again, she hugs Ekko and pulls him out of his “i can’t trust you” attitude, and Caitlyn— god, Caitlyn. aside from being (understandably) a bit standoffish at first, she is so willing to give and accept affection from Caitlyn. Vi hugs her, leans into her touch, holds her hand against her face, trusts her.
Vi, despite a gruff exterior, allows herself to be vulnerable around those she loves, time and time again, because at the very core of her character, that’s who she is. Every major decision she makes, in one way or another, is motivated by her love for someone else. And if you ask me, that vulnerability makes her character all the stronger.
