Ichika approached her mother shyly after her interaction with Shiro when she got back to the Seireitei. "Mama, I found a weird Hollow while I was in the world of the living. He looks like Ichi-jii! He didn't admit it though. My soul pager didn't go off either." She took out the device and showed it to her mother. "Is it broken? Uruhara-san wasn't at his shop."
“Hm?”
The ebony haired arched her brow as she turned to her young daughter, listening intently to her discovery. Taking the device, Rukia instantly checked it out for any sign of disfunction. So far so good…which meant…That Ichika did encounter with…Could it be?
“That fool.” the words escaped her lips as her mind run wild with theories. It could simply be Ichigo in his Vizard state, or perhaps could his inner hollow take over control? Either case, it would be better to be safe than sorry.
Tumblr media
“There’s nothing wrong with it.” she replied calmly while giving the soul pager back to the red haired, “It is true that one of the many strengths that Ichigo gained in the past is linked with a hollow, but he controlled it long ago. For a hollow to resemble him around town, could mean many things that we’ll check upon. Still, be careful.” she explained before fixing Ichika’s bow. “Thank you for coming to me.”

Stepping closer to the edge of the roof, eyeing for a moment at the strange yet perceptive man. “It is easier to sense a lost soul from a high distance.” Rukia said calmly, while looking back at the city, "You're no shinigami, are you?"

koredesaigoda:
She was still thinking about them, wasn’t she?
Actively, with a desire to see justice meted out to the perpetrators. He had seen that look many times throughout the multitude of cases that he had handled, but rarely so in a child. In fact, this was the first, as most far preferred completely blocking out all memory of trauma. Some went as far as to refuse to speak for months on end, only communicating through pen and paper.
Children function differently from adults, although this symptom can be found in the latter as well.
With a soft exhale, and shake of the head, Itachi gave the girl an apologetic look. He and his team were doing the best they could to imprison every depraved soul that had had a hand in this.
“No, we haven’t,” he said honestly, and not without regret either. “We still have a few loose ends to take care of, which is precisely why my friend and I are here today. We were hoping you or any of the other children could help us by telling us what you learned and experienced there. Anything you know might prove useful in our search.”
It could be anything. Important details, or details that one would initially dismiss as unimportant, such as scent, slices of conversation, accent, even the appearance of a certain room. After all, Itachi had managed to locate the home of one of the crime heads by comparing the building interior seen in video recordings with all of the known ones already filed here. Then there was the voice… Simply keeping one’s location and identity unknown wasn’t enough to escape their radar.
“Would you object if I ask you a few questions?”
His apologetic gaze was new for the child, so it took her a while to fully understand it, either way it was her followed words that froze the child right from the core.
They were out there, hiding, laughing, searching for them, or worst...taking more children.
Heartbreak wasn’t enough to describe the wave of emotions the ebony haired child experienced, but being so complex, Rukia could simply rely on anger. Emotion got you killed on the streets, which was a reminder to stay as calm as possible. Although, the mere thought of the bastards running around freely, made her almost nauseous, the youngest ones barely slept, this “news” might keep them fully awake now.
A few grunts and whines did escaped her lips though, not liking how slow cups actually worked. Giving a dull glare at each properly she took in a deep breath before stepping back to the children, gathering a few of the drawings most made, including hers.
Holding onto them as if life depended on it.
Returning back to the officers with a couple of more kids, the ones closest her age, she replied annoyed, “We’ll try...Leave the others...” she replied almost annoyed, mainly for the adults’ incompetence.
Kindred ebony.

koredesaigoda:
While the girl -Rukia, if he recalled correctly- rose to speak to the children, both Itachi and Shisui quietly made note of their dynamics, observing. Ah, so he had been right to believe that she had taken it upon herself to look after her friends. Dr. Tsunade had informed him that she was the eldest as well.
After meandering for a moment longer, coaxing and reassuring the little ones out of their anxiety-riddled states, the child finally ambled her way towards the detectives, shy, apparently.
For once, Shisui decided to hold his tongue. Instead of staying by his best friend’s side, he opted for continuing his conversation with the doctor. Not without first returning young Rukia’s smile, of course. The elder had always had a much better grasp at interacting with others than Itachi ever did, yet here she was.
Shy, but very much eager to speak again.
“You look scary coming out of nowhere like that.” a small pause. “…But you came…”
“Do I?” Itachi chuckled, a small smile drawing itself along the line of his lips. “I suppose I’ll have to blame that on lack of sleep. It has been quite busy lately.”
An understatement, but there was no need to elaborate. Between the amount of research, raids and interviews he had conducted, Itachi was lucky to sleep a handful of hours every now and then. At the very least, they seemed to be close to finishing this case. They had made great progress over the past few weeks.
“And of course I did. I had to see how all of you are doing,” he continued, whilst slipping a hand into his pocket. “How are you so far? Have they been treating you well?”
Lack of sleep.
Well, it would seem everyone in this room was in fact in the same track, which, in her experience it was quite odd. A small furrow crossed her features as he continued, still remembering how those other men used to “check on them” too. Specially when it was darker.
Despise their words being similar in a way, it was the tone that differ in an incredible amount. Back then those men showed a different kind of interest, there was even an amount of malice, while this man continued irradiating kindness and sincerity. All the opposite to what the children lived.
A quick nod was all her answer as she looked back at the kids around the room. “It was scary at first, but you were right...We’re feeling better...” she said calmly before her furrow only deepened for a moment, “Have you caught them already? All of them?”
Guessing his lack of sleep and being busy must be because he was after them. Being honest, while it was sweet and thoughtful to visit everyone, all the kids had one thing in mind. Were the evil men completely gone now? As the eldest, she swallowed her own fear to speak about it, and dared to ask the question.
With an accelerated heart, violet eyes sparkled, not for hope, or fear, but out of frustration. Yes, they were all feeling better physical wise, and were even treated with good food. Yet, the demons they had to face in their nightmares was out of the uncertainty that some of those bad men were out there still. What if they found them?
Just because they felt better it didn’t meant they felt safe.

that could easily be the case. it wasn’t as if she was expecting to see chiaki in karakura, although it would be nice to catch up with someone from her hometown. hina exhaled softly and studied the shorter girl before her. from the back, she did look a bit like hina’s old friend but upfront, they were as different as night to day. especially when those large violet eyes were taken into account.
Tumblr media
“nah, just wishful thinking,” she said, shaking her head. “are you new? i haven’t seen you around.”
Instinctively, the petite shinigami crossed her arms as she analysed the woman in front of her. Despise everything it was natural to be disappointed not to reunite with that friend. Rukia nodded in understanding before her followed question caught her by surprise. That’s right! She was in her gigai and had to pretend to be human-- There was only one thing to do!
Tumblr media
“Ah--Yes! Yes! I’m Kuchiki Rukia~ It’s nice to meet you~” she exclaimed in a high pitched tone, while holding her skirt and offering a quick bow. This was the human way or greeting after all... right?

Like he needed more reasons to scoff.
Grimmjow made a noise of derision, and following it, spat to the side. Didn’t really matter. This fuck town was basically a pile of rubble by now. Soul Society had a long way to go before they could rebuild this shithole to its former glory. Whatever that was.
Tumblr media
“–Sorry, bitch, but does it look like I’m interested in layin’ a hand on your stupid Soul Society and its peons? I’ve been here for two days and it looks pretty much the same way it did after the war ended.”
He wasn’t about to waste his time on cannon fodder.
“I ain’t interested, so you can wind the fuck down.”
Looking back at the blue haired, unamused might I add; Rukia couldn’t help herself and roll her eyes while looking away, releasing an inaudible sigh as the Arrancar kept talking, and talking…and so on to what it looked like a good eternity for the petite shinigami.
If he was allowed to be here, was for a good reason she very well understood, if he’d been in here for that long it just meant he truly was some extra hands. Much to Rukia’s annoyance.
Tumblr media
“Enough with the chattering you whiner! If you’re here better use your hands for something useful, if not get back to your world, will you?” she snapped. Walking towards his direction, she took the opportunity to his him in the head with her zanpakuto’s scabbard.

“Do you think we’ll get much out of the kids today?” Shisui wondered aloud. “They were pretty traumatised last time we saw them.”
They likely still were.
There was no immediate answer; what filled the brief silence between the two officers were their swift, steady footsteps. Itachi himself had his doubts, but they had to start somewhere, didn’t they? Every little helped, and the children were the closest source they had to those who had been in direct contact of the culprits. Itachi and the rest had already done their due diligence, by cross checking voice recordings, and what they could make of the build of the masked criminals as well as the layout of locations used in the red room videos.
“I don’t know,” Itachi admitted. “Dr. Tsunade says a few are well enough to be interviewed. We should do our part, at least.”
“Hm. True.”
There were no further questions, and neither of them spoke until they were met by the doctor in question. A buxom woman with a temper, Dr Tsunade was the head of the Konoha Hospital.
“About time you two got here,” came her brusque greeting. “The children have just started playing. Give them about ten minutes and I’ll let you talk to them.”
“And hello to you too, Tsunade-san,” Shisui said in good nature. “How are they doing?”
Pleasantries were exchanged, and a somber discussion ensued. All in all, the doctor had positive news to impart. The children had made progress on recovering from their injuries, malnutrition and for some, the drugs that had been in their system. Their mental state, however, was not as easy to mend. Few were willing to speak, while the rest preferred to remain silent. There had been nightmares too, she shared.
“I see,” Itachi said sympathetically. The poor things.
His gaze flickered then, to one of the beds in the ward. If he was not mistaken, wasn’t that…?
“Hey, Itachi.” It was then that Shisui chose to nudge him. “Isn’t that the kid who was really attached to you that day?”
While Rukia battled her emotions with a lowered head, it was only matter of time before the rest of the children noticed the grown ups. Of course many would recognise them, for it was hard to forget the face of a saviour. Yet, due the mental state of many, there were those (mostly the youngest) who hurried to hide or go back to their beds.
Upon noticing the children’s movements, instinctively the petite turned and faced both officers. Big violet eyes staring back at the one called Shisui (she could remember since it was similar to the word sushi), and the one called Itachi. A part of her was annoyed to be one of the eldest, but again, she couldn’t help to see the rest of the children in distress.
Leaving her sketches behind, carefully the child made her way down and towards the kids that were mostly afraid. Reminding them they weren’t the evil men, but the good guys. The heroes!
Some didn’t trusted right away, but once a couple of the youngest were calm, she made her way towards both officers, her heart racing and feeling constant goosebumps. Those who didn’t hid, despise being with the toys remained wary, but it was true that each of them were curious.
A small (and quite forced) smile was offered to both as a greeting.
Moving her arms against her waist while trying to figure out what to say, or do, she decided with a nod to go straight to the point, “You look scary coming out of nowhere like that.” a small pause.
“...But you came...” she mumbled, before looking away, pretending to check on some of the kids nearby.

She knew on some level that Rukia was right. Still, it made her snort. If only she knew her solution.
Life was like she dragged around a ball and chain, like her vessel was made lead. It was perfect to sink to riverbed, she was certain the silt would feel like a plush mattress.
Tumblr media
Still, she smiled at her brother’s friend as if to disguise her grim thoughts. “Thanks,” she said. It means a lot to hear that.”
The violet eyed looked back at the ebony haired girl, out of the Kurosakis, she was definitely one of the most reserved ones. Yet her smile and gaze were a clear giveaway, anyone with two eyes and a logical sense would understand.
With crossed arms, a small furrow and offering a gentle look, the petite shinigami looked away, “Don’t want to hear all that.” she said almost scolding the girl.
Tumblr media
A hand slowly reached Karin’s back, her voice turning softer than before, “Do it. Take charge of that light.”

skinwclk replied to your post: ruffles rukia's hair.
“ah— my bad. i thought you’re a friend of mine.” from the back, the girl looked exactly like someone hina used to know. it’s been years though, so her friend could’ve looked different. “you’re not related to chiaki, by any chance, do you?”
Rukia took a deep breath in to control herself, so this was nothing more than a misunderstanding. “Ah, I see.” she said calmly, guessing she must’ve had a common structure after all. Take that disrespectful fools.
Tumblr media
Blinking a couple of times, the petite woman shook her head, “Forgive me, but no.” she replied before looking around, “Maybe your friend is around somewhere?”

There was a twinge of irritation at first, but upon realising just whom it was that was staring so fixedly at him -although admittedly, it took awhile- Grimmjow afforded a smirk.
Lips curled cruelly at the slight Shinigami.
Must be killing her that he was here in Soul Society, as an ally.
Tumblr media
“You can keep glarin’ all you want. It ain’t changing the fact that I’m here.” He sneered. “Or that I fucking stabbed you in the gut.”
For someone who was able to make her body go to absolute 0, it was truly fascinating the quickness her body began to boil. Just by seeing the Arrancar not only alive, but in this territory apparently helping against the Quincy fight.
In a way she approved that, she’d heard the Arrancars had it rough too, the problem was that she had personal business with this one in particular.
The petite shinigami took a deep breath and resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
Tumblr media
That smirk worked only to infuriate her more, but it also meant the silly confidence the blue haired had. “You may be one of the relative formidable survivors of Hueco Mundo, but in here you must stick to the rules of Soul Society.”

@koredesaigoda
Has it been a week, or three? A few days? The petite girl couldn’t tell, being in the same place 24/7, seeing the same faces examining you at the respective hours made Rukia lose track of time. Usually, back in the streets, she would always make stops at places with clock or just ask a stranger.  Right now, that was not the case, along with the other children that were taken by the evil men, she had to be in constant check by the grown ups in white cloaks. Sometimes she heard them speaking with pity about them, personally that was annoying. It could’ve been far worse, if it wasn’t for that fateful day, and the man with kindness behind those ebony eyes.
After hearing the steps of the nurses, the petite stretched her arms and sat down on her assigned bed. Despise her trust issues, whatever they were giving them was helping, most of the children were recovering their energy, herself included. While a few complained about the food, Rukia was amongst the grateful ones, since this must’ve been the best treats she ever had in her life so far.
Once the regular check ups were done, and the clock kept ticking, there was a time were the kids were aloud to play in the same room. Many thought that due their shock it was good that they interacted between each other. Obviously most kids didn’t wanted, they were still afraid. On the night, Rukia along with another kid lectured and encouraged them to play, or speak whatever was tormenting them, for it was still common to have nightmares about that place. Even her couldn’t help but develop a little insomnia due the situation.
That day a few more kids were brave enough to share and start playing, Rukia in the other hand stayed in bed and decided to draw on the paper and colours the nurses’ brought another time. She was focused on the rabbit sketch when a familiar voice echoed in the room. With arched brows and widened violet eyes, the petite turned her attention to the doctor as she was introducing the officers that arrived, amongst them, it was that man. Itachi.
Of course and instantly she looked away and continued her drawing, feeling her ears heating up. How could there be a grown up that kept his words? That genuinely cared...She’d underestimated him. Although those thoughts were beyond her comprehension for now, her feelings were not, and so with a little shame she continued drawing... As well as attempting to listen to what he had to say.
