So if I know it's been a long ass time since I've worked on my long fic, especially when I said I'd be finishing it (though not with any specified time frame) but the truth is the last time I read over it, maybe 6-8 months ago... Sigh maybe I was in a bad headspace but it was *awful* to me. Like.. totally overdramatic, idk. So I'm trying to look past that, forget that feeling, and just sit the fuck down and work on it. But it's been so damn difficult. I apologize to the people waiting on it. I know it's been so long. If I had a magic wand I would definitely give myself the energy and brain power and good mental health to write every single day. It makes me want to cry, seeing these writers that can do that. If I could choose that, I would 100% do it without hesitation.

The biggest reason I don't see borderline in Laito is because of the major component of impulsivity in borderline symptoms. That's probably the main symptom for that disorder. I don't see Laito as impulsive. Kanato, Subaru and Ayato are good examples of impulsive personalities. But you don't see that in Laito often. He's very methodical and deliberate in his behaviors and manipulations. He will take great care to analyse every aspect of you to find the ways that would hurt you most. That's his way of gaining power over you. He enjoys using all kinds of manipulative cruelty, both physical and emotional, to gain power and control over his victims. He gains sexual gratification from this form of power and control. It's his way to gain power and control over the trauma of his CSA. He inflicts sexual pain and control on others as a form of control over what happened to him.

These behaviors fit sadistic personality disorder best, imho. But that diagnosis was removed from the dsm for various reasons, mainly because of stigma from the bsdm community, I believe? But from what I've heard, it's being reconsidered in the context of nonconsent and disordered behavior. I have not properly spent time looking into this though.

The dsm 5 does have a sexual sadism disorder, but I don't think it fits Laito as well as sadistic personality disorder. The difference between the two diagnoses is that sexual sadism disorder is for sexual pleasure, whereas sadistic personality disorder is for control in general, not just sexual control.

So yeah, I still haven't settled on a current dms 5 diagnosis for Laito. But, I haven't actually had time to sit down and really dive into it to find a good fit for him.

ETA: Laito also doesn't have the feelings of worthlessness that is also a main component of borderline. I think he has subconscious feelings of worthlessness, but that's just my opinion. He never outright says he's worthless, the way people with borderline do. He does have the mood swings with hostility and irritability and some antisocial behaviors, but I don't think he's self destructive or self-harming the way borderline disorders tend to be, and he's not suicidal in the least.

I am still so sorry it's taking me forever to finish the next chapter. I need time and space to write, like several hours of quiet time, and I literally never get that 😭💔

Translator’s note: This one just straight up sounds like a porno during certain parts but I was not expecting anything else from Laito, lol. I remember being totally grossed out by his route the first time I played it because I felt both physically and mentally assaulted but he has really grown on me a lot since this. His voice is smooth as butter and in a lot of the more funny drama CD tracks involving all of the brothers, he is such a great moodmaker.

There's been some posts on Reddit about people absolutely despising fanfics written in first person, especially if it's not an oc. I write the diaboys in first person because I like to get inside their head and write from their perspective. It's fun to write how I imagine their creepy, fucked up thoughts to be. But soooo many people on r/ao3 seemed to be totally turned off by that. Now I'm wondering if I should go back and change those chapters to 3rd person 🤔. I don't have that many of them, so it wouldn't be that hard to do. Any thoughts?

I rewrote the first chapter on Ageless last night. It's always bothered me because it had so much telling not showing (boring). So I tried to make it a bit more interesting, showing how badly Sayuri's illness affected her, and also showing her young appearance. And I included a scene with her son and her mother, which only serves to make me sadder 😢 but I think it works better than what I had.

It's why I don't interact with the fandom much anymore. It triggers me so much. I understand wanting to see the boys fluffy and romantic sometimes but my god, don't totally change them and pretend they're "healed" from all the horrible stuff they did to Yui because they fell "in love", turning them into romantic, ideal partners filled with love and kindness. What the fuck lol Why do they like these violent boys if that's what they do to their characters? Almost every single other otome game out there has sweet, kind guys to choose from. Don't turn the sadistic vampires into fluffy bunnies pleeaaaase

I had to read that Ayato, one of the brats from Diabolik lovers is "the best guys in otome game" that this literal rapist had kindness into his rotten heart
