Otumfuo to commission redeveloped Kejetia market today
President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to join the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in Kumasi today to officially commission the redeveloped Kumasi Kejetia market.
The occasions will also be used to unveil the statue of Otumfuoo at the Kejetia roundabout. A sod will also be cut to commence the construction of the Kumasi Central market project as part of activates marking the 20th Anniversary of the Ashanti Monarch.
The opening of the market will allow 8,400 market women at the Kumasi Central Market and the occupants of the old Kejetia shops who have been validated and verified by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and will also pave way for the demolition and construction of the Central Market for the second phase of the project.
The project which costs $298 million and started in July 2015 by the Mahama administration was to be completed in January 2018 but was delayed due to court suits arising from litigation between private land developers and KMA over the pulling down of structures around the project.
Briefing the media after touring the facility, Minister of local government, Hajia Alima Bawa expressed joy at the project and called on the traders to take proper care of it and warned that any trader who goes contrary to the regulations and rules of the market will be evicted.
“I am very excited about the project, now the contractor has finished and handed over to the KMA. All that we are waiting for is the May 2 this year when it will be officially commissioned by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and His Excellency President Nana Akufo Addo,” she said.
The redeveloped kejetia Market and the yet to be constructed Kumasi central market is expected to end the continues fire disasters in the market.
The Kejetia market will host police station, fire station, clinic, and a daycare centre.

She’s said to have died on Wednesday, May 1 in the United States of America after a short ailment.
The veteran broadcaster affectionately called Maa Afia proceeded on retirement in 2015 after working for over a decade with Peace FM.
She was a trained teacher by profession, Afia Konadu worked with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). GBC 2 Radio for several years before she joined Peace FM. She was one of the persons who drew a lot of listeners to the first Akan private owned radio station due to the impact she made with her show, Asodwe Nkomo which addressed social issues.

We usually see great kings or princes making their subordinate “Nobodies” their queen in our local movies, but in the case of the people of Thailand, it is the reality.
The king of Thailand has married the deputy head of his personal security detail, and given her the title of queen, a royal statement has said.
The surprise announcement comes before his elaborate coronation ceremonies begin on Saturday, when his position is consecrated.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn, 66, became the constitutional monarch after the death of his much-loved father in 2016.
He has been married and divorced three times before and has seven children.
A royal statement said: King Vajiralongkorn “has decided to promote General Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya, his royal consort, to become Queen Suthida and she will hold royal title and status as part of the royal family”.
Queen Suthida is King Vajiralongkorn’s long-term partner and has been seen with him in public for many years, though their relationship has never before been officially acknowledged.
Queen Suthida was made a general in 2016
Footage from the wedding ceremony was shown on Thai TV channels late Wednesday, showing other members of the royal family and palace advisers in attendance.
The king is seen pouring sacred water on the head of Queen Suthida. The couple then sign a marriage registry according to BBC.
In 2014 Vajiralongkorn appointed Suthida Tidjai, a former flight attendant for Thai Airways, as the deputy commander of his bodyguard unit. He made her a full general in the army in December 2016.
The previous king, Bhumibol Adulyadej, ruled for 70 years, making him the longest-reigning monarch in the world when he died in 2016.

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that he has faith in goalkeeper David De Gea despite poor form this season for the Red Devils.
The Spain international has not kept a clean sheet in 12 matches with the Red Devils conceding more goals than in any other season.
And on Wednesday, April 24, David De Gea continued with his unimpressive performance this season for Manchester United against City when he failed to keep out Leroy Sane’s goal.
Former Manchester United stopper Gary Bailey believes it is time for De Gea to be given a rest and let Sergio Romero have a go.
Asked if that was possible, Solskjaer said: “No. Not at all. Because I trust David.
“For me, he’s been the best player United have had last six or seven years, absolutely outstanding.
“Going through tough patches is part of a footballer’s career and David will be fine,” Solskjaer said according to UK Sun.
Meanwhile, after crashing out of the 2018/19 Champions League, Manchester United are now fighting to finish among the top four teams this season.
The Red Devils are currently occupying sixth position on the Premier League standings with three games to end the season.

A 10-month-old baby girl was rescued in a bush after her mother reportedly buried her in a forest at Krobo-akye near Senya Breku in the Central region of Ghana.
According to witnesses who spoke with Adom News, they heard cries at their way to find a place in the bush to empty their bows after work, and followed the sound only to find the baby girl buried in a makeshift grave in the bush.
One of the residents, Yaa Grace said they quickly alerted the police leading to her rescue. The Senya Breku District Police Commander, DSP Matthew Boamponsem said the baby was dehydrated so they rushed her to the hospital for medical attention.
He added that, the police has also mounted a man-hunt for the mother who committed the heinous crime. He said the baby has been sent to the hospital for treatment while the police are trying hard to arrest the mother.
Meanwhile, the Medical Officer in-charge of the Senya Breku Heath Centre, Dr Victor Saidu Issifu said the baby is in critical condition.
He explained that, she has bacterial infection, especially in her private part due to the number of hours spend underground. This notwithstanding, Dr Issifu said they are doing everything possible to save her life.

“And I’m just here thinking if you guys are gonna believe any words that come from a man like him, the same man who denied his own blood.
“If you all are gonna believe anything he say, then you all are just stupid just like him.”
Peter of P-Square is married to Lola Okoye, with two kids, Cameron and Aliona for him.

The conflict within the Okoye household looks far from being over after Peter Okoye (Mr. P) recently revealed that he is not in talking terms with his elder brother, Jude Okoye.
The music star and former member of the defunct group, Psquare, made this known during an interview with Cool FM’s Do2dtun on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
According to him, they aren’t in talking terms and he isn’t going to be beating around the bush about it.
“I’m always going to wish him the best of his life…like me I don’t have any problem with anybody but if they really have any problem with me, its fine, I’m living my life,” he said. When asked if they talk now, he responded by saying they don’t.
The Okoye brothers have been at war with each other since 2017 and it is safe to say it has been of the biggest celebrity fights recorded in Nigeria.
From shading to actually insulting each other on social media, it has been one messy scandal that has rocked the entertainment industry.
