Weâre back at it again, this time for our fourth year â„ !!
Please reblog this post to let everyone know gemweek is on!
⧠What is Gemsona Week?
Welcome to Gemsona Week! Gemweek is a fandom appreciation week for the Cartoon Network animated series created by Rebecca Sugar, Steven Universe. âGemsonaâ is a portmanteau of âcrystal gemâ and âpersonaâ, meaning, create your own gem characters! There are daily prompts throughout the week and the gemsona community is encouraged to interact, roleplay and create!
So go make or update your gemsona! Get drawing and writing, browse the prompts and post in the tags #gemsona & #gemsona week!
â„ IMPORTANT â„ -Â
No 18+ content in the tags, forum or chats please! This is an all-ages event.Â
Itâs essential to use the tag â#gemsona week â in the first five tags of all your gemsona week posts. I will be queueing for this blog straight from that tag! Help me find your prompt responses so I can share it with everyone!
Hi everyone! A bit unfashionably late this year, I hope youâll forgive me! This year is crammed with prompts and design challenges, so hopefully everyone will find something that vibes with them each day. Iâm doing this a little different this year- itâs more of a Gemsona MONTH than a week; I know thereâs a lot of prompts to work through, so Iâll be reblogging from the tags all of August! So take your time with them, choose your favorite prompts for the day and put the rest on the back burner for later. No rush, no fuss!
This year we have memes galore, an abundance of writing prompts, the Art Fusion Challenge and- you heard me right- a Gemsona Week Discord server!! Depending on traffic and demand, membership is first-come, first-served (pun intended) with a possibility of closure. So if youâd like to join up, do so quickly! Weâve got chats, galleries and rp channels just waiting for you. Head over to the Discord page to find out more and access the invite code before it expires!
As always, THANK YOU for your patience and hard work, you guys make gemweek a blast every year!!â„â„

Stay tuned for updates and more info (fyi: prompts will be released earlier than usual this year).. Please reblog and let everybody know!! Letâs do this gemsona fandom!! â§
Having seen some of the fallout from the latest Steven Universe episode(s) Iâve realized something:
Before âWantedâ
Normal person: âDonât you think youâre reading into a kids show a little too much? I mean, itïżœïżœs not that deep.â
Me: âI mean, itâs got a little depth to it, but yeah, youâre right. Maybe I am looking a little too into it by attempting to analyze every line spoken and every little detail in the background.â
Hey could I maybe have some advice? I have a gem character who is a coal. Her whole thing is that coals are like worker ants that periots use to mine gems for the kindergarten. So it's just a fan character I made for fun. That's not really what I need advice on though. My issue right now is people don't receive her well because coal is not a type of gemstone and "it doesn't fit with the lore" even though it's just a fan character. So is there a way I could change her to fit expectations?
My advice? Keep your original idea. I think itâs very clever and clearly something you put a lot of thought into. Fancharacters are made for fun, they do not need to be canon-compliant and itâs not anyoneâs place to come at you and demand you change it. If they personally donât think coal should be used as a Gem, thatâs fine, no one is forcing them to making one. But itâs not their place to say no one can do it.
But if you want something more concrete to shush naysayers trying to ruin your fun, itâs worth noting that there are already canonical Gems that are not, in fact, gemstones. Including Pearl (not actually a gemstone, or a stone at all), Lapis Lazuli (a rock, not a gem), and Bismuth (a metal). So saying that using anything other than gemstones for Gems âdoesnât fit with loreâ doesnât even hold true in regards to the showâs actual established characters.
Further, the crew have always been very adamant that fans should create fanworks and fancharacters however they see fit. And, in fact, Ian Jones-Quartey even tweeted that any mineral is fair game for Gems
(here)
Anyways, you do you. Ignore the folks just trying to wreck your fun. Theyâre absolutely in the wrong here, not just in that they donât have authority to tell you what to do, but also in that the showâs rules donât even agree with their assertion.
[[Ho there, followers! Sorry I fell off the face of the Earth. School's been really hectic lately with finishing off with good grades so my college doesn't consider rescinding its acceptance lol I'll be back soon!]]
Art is 10% talent and 90% work. Your art isnât bad. Youâre still learning. Youâre still developing. If you continue drawing for a long period of time, take a drawing from something a month ago and compare it to the present. You probably improved.Â
Like everything, the more you practice at something, the better/experienced you will be. Donât quit when youâve only just begun.Â
