Egalt and his teaching methods really struck be because they directly contrast Lloyd’s teaching method

Egalt is strict, blunt, and demeaning, he isn’t going to tell you he believes in you the way Lloyd does. Lloyd is the first to pat you on the shoulder and tell you that He believes in you and you should believe in yourself.

Particularly with Arin- Egalt was actually teaching how to do the Rising Dragon technique, while Lloyd let Arin do his own thing because Arin has a Gift/Talent

Egalt would tell Arin he didn’t have enough of the foundational skills and in the next shot Lloyd is there telling Arin he can do it

You realize Lloyd hasn’t bothered to teach Arin spinjiztu and it’s probably because he thinks he doesn’t need to- Arin will just get it

Arin not getting better because he isn’t receiving the right teaching / advice fuels Lloyds fears of not being a good master and fuels Arins fears of not being fit to be a Ninja. It’s a quaking cycle

Egalt and Lloyds methods are on opposite ends of the spectrum but both ultimately failed at helping him,, they are both out of balance you could say

Makes you wonder where Arin would be if Lloyd had taught him before. Can’t help but wonder if Lloyd being the original “gifted ninja” and the chosen one tampers with how he teaches

I like to think that lloyd has random hidden talents like he can draw or has perfect pitch or can sing, but none of these were really encouraged in darkleys and he was too focused on taking after his dad

Someone figures out he has perfect pitch and Lloyd is like, “Can’t everyone do this— 🤨”

Misogyny is definitely apart of it but I think there’s a bigger conversation to be had about how some characters who show flaws or make mistakes are treated like the Worst People Ever or are given hell vs other characters where people just tend to ignore their mistakes/flaws or don’t put the same weight behind it

Like Wu for example, people HATE him but Garmadon is not given that same treatment? Despite doing a lot worse than he has

Or when Lloyd made ignorant comments about Garmadon in Crystalized and was so heavily antagonized when such a flaw or poor decision was made on his part- and yet even in DR we have seen characters make ignorant comments about dragons and yet I haven’t seen the same outcry (but I also haven’t been on ninjagotwt lately)

Genuinely so wild thinking about how willing people are to dunk on characters like Misako and Harumi, but then bend over backwards to protect the pure and noble images of Garmadon and Morro... Literally just say you hate women and move on?

Lloyd has always wanted to be a Leader of some kind and i think for the longest you could say it was because he felt pressured to due to the green ninja responsibilities, which I think is still true!

But now that he’s an adult, he still has that need and now I think it’s a little less about leadership and more about his need to be Nurturing

Lloyds power derives from the source dragon of life, and he cares so much about guiding the kids and supports them, and worries how they’ll do on their adventures

Lloyd, who grew up without his parents in his life, wants to be a nurturing figure to people around him

I think this trait goes beyond him being the Green Ninja
