In all seriousness though, if you're asking whether or not they love each other, that's never really been up for debate. Peter has been all-but-openly obsessed with Carl since they met in 1997, and Carl is actually not that much better, he's just quieter about it. I'm gonna let their wikipedia page do the heavy lifting here bc it paints a pretty good picture of their relationship:

If you're asking whether they were ever an item though, then no, although they most likely did have something going on in the early 2000s. Neither openly identify as being attracted to men (although Carl did once half-joke in a livestream that he was "part gay", and Peter has said various things throughout the years, but has been more insistent in recent times), and both are in long-term committed relationships with families, so I don't want to mislead you on that front. That being said, they ARE one of those instances where neither platonic nor romantic really fit the bill for their relationship. I'll refer you to @missoneminute for a more nuanced response to "were they ever a thing" because these are my exact thoughts except she words it better than I could ever do.

Whatever it is though, they've definitely got a very unique relationship, with some remarkably intense feelings on both sides. I've always been quite moved by the endurance of their bond tbh, it's withstood the test of some truly awful times. The Libertines' breakup in the mid-2000s was VERY messy, and they've had a few stops and starts even in the past decade, but what's always stood out to me about them is the way that they just couldn't really stay away from each other & never really gave up on their relationship, and have always emphasized that they love each other, even during the worst years.
