Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

didn't wanna derail the last post with it but in general most trans people don't give a shit about minor mistakes. you can slip up and use the wrong pronouns or a gendered term and go "oh my bad" and 99% of the time that's where the problem begins and ends. no one is out there screaming "did you just assume my gender?!" because, like, yea. you probably did. shit happens. it's when you make a massive deal out of it, kick your heels and insist that actually "dude" is completely gender neutral or you're trying your best so everyone should just shut up ect ect that things become a problem. but every single person who does the latter insists it was the former and that everyone is making a big fuss about a mistake when in reality they've misgendered someone 10 times in a row and made no attempt to correct themself.

Makes me insane that people like James Somerton can raise 64k for a "queer movie studio" that doesn't actually make movies at all and doesn't seem to exist but there are so many queer people begging for help just to pay rent or feed themselves. Things would be fucking easy if I had shit morals and a con artist spirit but I'm the kind of autistic that can't pretend to be something I'm not to a critically alienating level. George Santos can lie and grift his way into a salary of almost 1mil and I can't be a phone dominatrix without cracking and breaking down lmao!!! I hate that survival in this society is based on how willing you are to harm others in one way or another. Even normal "ethical" jobs can usually be boiled down to grifting or taking advantage of someone. You work in insurance? Evil business. Retail? Evil business. Medicine? Evil business. Law? Govt? They're all monsters that feed the capitalist machine. And if you're unable to keep up with being a liar to survive, you're fucked.

Apparently protected species doesn't mean protecting their needs
Someone fix this law it's the only way to save them
one of my favorite things about my job that i can say to people that sounds utterly ridiculous but is technically 100% true is that one of our sea turtles keeps trying to get me to commit a felony on her behalf and gets SUPER cranky when i won’t do it

This tweet had me absolutely flabbergasted twice because I read this and I was like "Dame Aylin? The tall, blonde, supermodel demigoddess? How is she at all outside of the beauty standard? This is stupid" and then I scrolled down and there were a hundred replies by straight dudes who were calling her ugly and talking about anime women they prefer

>looking for new gnc character
>ask the fandom if the character is subversive of gender norms or transmisogynistic caricature
>they don't understand
>pull out illustrated diagram explaining what is subversive of gender norms and what is transmisogynistic caricature
>they laugh and say "it's a good character"
>watch the source material
>it's transmisogynistic caricature

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation. Mary, did you know? That your womb was also a grave?

I'm not conflicted on whether a man should write about lesbians. Or from a woman's perspective. Op is correct about a good author doing research and can do a good job at making any kind of story. I don't expect anyone writing kings and castles to be a king or live in a castle. I expect they understand the characters and the world around them. References do help a lot.
Poorly written characters with no depth beyond filling a love interest quota is really hard to read. Gay or not. A good author steps into the shoes of each character and imagines what they think or feel and how that translates into action in the world around them.
And honestly love is love literally. It works really well regardless of the genders of the characters if the love between them is real and understood. This is one of the ways you may find queer romance to be more interesting. Not because it's queer, but because the author focuses on the fact that the character is a person first, and gender is world building.
Tropes aren't a bad thing either btw. But the reason the gay best friend trope is annoying is because they're a character trait given a body. This is also a problem in straight romances. There's no depth and the character is thought of after they fill the necessary slot.
I hope that anon keeps stuff like this in mind and writes lots of sapphic stuff
Does it bother you when men write sapphic books?
Not at all. If a book is written well and with respect to the characters, why not? I know I've certainly connected more to some sapphic characters written by men than by women, just because we have different experiences.
I believe anyone can write any type of character or book. That's what an author should do, and research different experiences and points of view.
But I'm curious, let me know what y'all think about it in replies/reblogs!
