Didn't realize tumblr would only let me post one video per post, so I guess I'll just schedule the next couple after each other cause they kind tell a story in 3 parts 😂
I've also realized how weirdly I speak when I'm recording. I probably talk like this off video too, to be honest. But the captioning is making it more obvious.
A slight correction I also realized after this video, since I have to dig a big hole for the Peony to move into, a lot of that dirt can go into the other half of the garden bed. Meaning I probably need less dirt than I though I needed.
It's so much better!! Oh my god, it genuinely was making me feel awful seeing the janky ass hack job I did previously which made it hard to get hyped about gardening things again. I've still not moved the peony, I know, I probably shouldn't at all at this point. But it's one of those ADHD hyper fixations I have now that I just can't let go. I just need to be careful digging it out.
I haven't slept yet, but I'm hoping today is the day it gets moved. I do also need to make banana bread, which I have been putting off for like 3 days now. To be fair a lot of things are getting put off because my mental health is still pretty tanked.
Enough of that, more garden talk! Well kind of, more like I'm still being an old disgruntled millennial trying to figure out how to make interesting short form videos so uh, here's one of a few I recorded yesterday. I'm going to post them in their own posts later 😂
My hubs came home from work the other day while I was doing the bushes and raspberries and said my gardening fit looked like a low level RPG character that just puts on every item they find until they get the better, matching equipment. Not gonna lie lmao he's right. Not shown here is the old fur-topped winter boots I was also wearing cause the ground was squelchy and I don't have rain boots that fit 🤣
I wish I had a full body shot but they just looked dumb so you get this instead. The neon green are knee pads for when I'm kneeling. I'm actually a 92 year old man by the way. Speaking of, my god I forgot to stretch the other day and man were my gams unhappy about it. I remember to stretch a quarter the way into attaching the sunscreen privacy mesh thing yesterday though!
As well as the privacy screen getting installed yesterday, I also went and got another chunk of that tomato cage fencing for my raspberries and some more plant post things to hold them upright.
I actually couldn't find the singular green ones I was using, but the dollar store had some of these spiral drink holders that essentially looked like bigger plant stakes. Plus they're red and match the tomato cage fence!
I should probably actually look up if this is okay for them to be bunched this close but it worked okay last year so I'm just hoping for the best tbh. Though last year's grouping of them into clusters was done well after they'd started to bloom. I get the feeling they're just gonna grow and make space for themselves as they do so.
I did end up trimming them down a bit more too, despite the already started growth on the long main stems (Stalks? Trunks? I dunno.) because a couple of them were already pretty close to reaching the bird netting and I'd prefer them to not poke though it for as long as possible. I do want to look up how to manage the size of the damn thing this year though. Cause I don't think I really did any trimming back of it other than removing obviously dead branches.
I also got edging for the janky-ass garden bed and sprawled it out on the lawn to get sun and uncoil. I haven't been outside yet, but hopefully when I get out there it'll be straight and easy to work with. Cause today's singular goal is get that edging installed to move the peony. That's technically 2 goals I suppose.
You know usually I like big green leafy plants, but after dealing woth those huge grass tufft things for the last 3 seasons I've decided, fuck those things in particular.
They're razor sharp, a literal and figurative pain to deal with, and they aren't even that nice to look it. 😒
I need to remember to add another one of them tomato cage things I have for the raspberries to my list of things to get for the backyard.
There's a tall, mostly dead, tree I can see from my backyard that I call the corvid tree. I like to believe that it's where they gather to plot their mechivious plans.
There is always either crows or blue jays up there. I can't add the video so here's a photo of one of the blue jays instead.
This chipmunk has become so much more confident around me ins kinda crazy? He used to be so skittish that even taking photos made him run off.
The other day he just ran right past me standing there without a second though, and stayed long enough that I could take a picture 🤣
He also had no issues with me knocking dirt off of chunks of grass about 3 feet from him.
Today I was literally using power tools and standing about a foot from the bird feeder and he's just making laps snagging fallen seeds without a concern for me what so ever.
