People underestimate how much it fucks you up to be subtly excluded as a kid. I would try to talk to my classmates and be met with disinterest or annoyance. The one friend I had, who I clung to and nodded along to his every word, had other friends he liked just as much or more. And his other friends didn’t care for me at all.
I look back at pictures from the time and see how separated I was from them. I remember knowing I was different. I remember posing questions about the world to the girls playing next to me and realizing that they had never asked the same ones to themselves. That the ways we thought couldn’t be more different.
I kept myself amused with my own fanatical stories and musings in my head. I would wander the playground on a circular path, imagining a friend and being sorely disappointed when it didn’t feel as real as I’d hoped.
There was a bubble separating me from everyone else, thin, and nearly invisible, but with a pearly sheen you could catch under the right conditions. I knew it was there, they knew it was there, and it changed me

you're honestly so right though, writing how you feel on paper addressed to someone but never actually sending it is INCREDIBLY therapeutic. you get to tell them how you feel without actually telling them. major L on her part because she's missing out on really solid advice, writing letters that i tear up and burn or throw out afterwards instead of sending them has been pivotal in my recovery.
i have a friend who told me today that she wouldn't write a nice letter to her mom because it would be disingenuous and i said "write the genuine letter and never send it" and she looked at me like i'd said the stupidest thing but i write letters i never send and i know that sometimes getting everything you're mad about out of you helps you think beyond the pain

Things that are okay to make up if you wanna play with Catholicism in your story:
- Religious orders (just because there wasn’t an order dedicated to fighting vampires doesn’t mean there can’t be)
- Saints (just because there wasn’t a St. Kxchylian, patron saint of transporters, doesn’t mean there can’t be)
- Popes (see previous. You can also make up bad popes! We’ve had our fair share)
Things that are not okay to make up:
- Doctrines and teachings
- Sacraments
- Secret societies that hide the Real Truth from the unwashed masses (you can actually get excommunicated for trying to do this in real life)
