Hide and seek with children from the slums of Shammi Nagar Dharavi.
Some came to me to talk and make pictures, others were following me in the narrow alleys and running away laughing if I turned to face them with the camera. I never was fast enough to catch that little one with her elegant dress.

Recycling in the slums of Shammi Nagar Dharavi
Another Mumbai slum where they specialised in recycling plastics and other packagings.
That young fellow invited me inside his cavern where he was crushing all sorts of used plastic containers. It was very dark and incredibly noisy (over 100db). I was terrified every time he was putting his hands deep inside the shredding machine with a great smile.

Mahalakshmi Dhobi Ghat, a gigantic laundry service.
Created in 1890, Mahalakshmi Dhobi Ghat is a giant open air laundry place in Mumbai, India. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open to clean clothes and linens from Mumbai's hotels, hospitals, neighbourhood laundries, garment dealers, wedding decorators and caterers.
For 18 to 20 hours each day, over 7000 people (around 200 families) flog, scrub, dye and bleach clothes on concrete wash pens, dry them on ropes, neatly press them and transport the garments to different parts of the city. Over one lakh (100,000) clothes are washed each day. Some of the wealthier dhobis have given up on manual cleaning and have now installed large mechanical washing and drying machines.
