Clint Bowyer ‘having fun again’ after best finish since 2015
via FOX Sports:
Tumblr media
Certainly Auto Club 400 race-winner Kyle Larson was the happiest guy at the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway after he held on through a spate of late-race cautions to score a huge victory and sweep the weekend.
But in terms of happiness, third-place finisher Clint Bowyer wasn’t far behind.
True, Bowyer didn’t win.
But for the first time in a long time, he ran like a potential race-winner.
Bowyer spent the 2015 season with Michael Waltrip Racing and last year with HScott Motorsports, two teams that went out of business at the end of Bowyer’s stints with them.
So when Bowyer moved to the powerhouse Stewart-Haas Racing outfit for this year, his joy and enthusiasm were infectious.
Now, he has his first top-five finish with the team after finishing no worse than 13th in any of the last three races.
Yeah, that was a big deal for Bowyer, especially since it was his first top-five finish since the Bristol night race in August 2015.
“It means a lot to me to be in this 14,” Bowyer said after the race. “I have a lot of fun with these guys. Buga (crew chief Mike Bugarewicz) and all these guys mean business.”
More than anything, though, it’s another indicator that after two years in NASCAR’s equivalent of purgatory, Bowyer is a contender to win and compete for a title again.
“It’s a confidence thing right now, a momentum-builder and we’re getting closer,” said Bowyer of his finish. “Obviously, this is a good track for me. I wanted to win that damn thing, but to come home with the wild finish and everything that it was, we’ll take it.”
Asked if he saw this coming, Bowyer affirmed that he did.
“Hell, yeah. It better be coming,” he said. “When you’ve got a team like this that’s organized and as good as they are, it better be.”
And when you run well, no question, life looks better.
“I’m just having fun again,” Bowyer said, as if there was any doubt about it. “That’s what it’s about.”

Bowyer out to revive NASCAR career as Stewart's replacement
via NewsOK:
Tumblr media
Clint Bowyer hasn't won a race since 2012, hasn't made the playoffs in three years and is coming off an embarrassingly bad season.
The worst of his career. It was so bad the one-time championship contender was a backmarker in nearly every event.
But there was never reason to panic for Bowyer, who was long-slated to replace three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart when Stewart retired at the end of last year. It meant a happy ending for Bowyer. He'd get to move to Stewart-Haas Racing, his one-year banishment to HScott Motorsports — where he was stashed for a year to wait for Stewart's finale — finally over. Bowyer would get his reprieve.
He gets his first ride in a brand new shiny Ford Fusion, one adorned with Stewart's beloved No. 14 on the side, when practice for the Daytona 500 begins on Saturday.
It's fair to ask Bowyer, after failing to run well for such a long stretch, if he still knows his way to victory lane.
"Hey, that's a real legitimate question," Bowyer said. "You just don't know. I think the last time I was in a good car, I was good. I think that I'm a smarter driver than I was three years ago. I think I'm plenty capable of winning races. I love what I see at Stewart-Haas, I really do believe if I'm going to win a race this is the exact team I'm going to win with.
"Wouldn't it be awesome if it was the Daytona 500? So I can stop answering that damn question?"
Bowyer is one of the skilled plate racers in NASCAR and he can typically rise to the challenge of a tight pack and split-second decision making. He's a two-time winner at Talladega and has three top-five finishes at Daytona. It makes Daytona International Speedway probably the best place for him to debut with a new team because he's so comfortable at the track.
"I love Daytona. I know a lot of people don't say that, but I like it. Maybe I'm a lunatic?" he said.
There was only one chance for Bowyer to get in the car before Daytona, but it was a team test at Phoenix in which only one driver could represent the organization. The natural pick was to send Kevin Harvick, who has eight career victories at the Arizona track.
Bowyer didn't challenge the call, and like teammates Kurt Busch and Danica Patrick, he'll utilize all the information Harvick gathered. But until he actually pulls his new car out onto the track Saturday, Bowyer doesn't know what to expect. He will be with his third different manufacturer in three years — he drove a Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing, then a Chevrolet last season — and now he is in a Ford as SHR makes a long-planned switch.
The manufacturer change doesn't bother Bowyer, and neither do his results the past few years. He's a driver with high energy and a short attention span, so the year waiting for his seat to open was agony.
"The biggest challenge was waiting a year to get in it  — get (Stewart's) butt out of it and mine in. That's been the biggest challenge," Bowyer said.
Without testing, though, he hasn't had a chance to get to know his new crew. He asked for a roster, but crew chief Mike Bugarewicz went further.
"He's such a dedicated person and so prepared that he literally went and took pictures of all the guys and emailed me names of them," Bowyer said. " I was like, 'Man, you didn't have to do that.' I'll still screw it up, but, at the end of the day, that's the level of dedication you have at Stewart-Haas and it just doesn't end with Mike, it's all across the board."
Stewart jokes he sometimes wonders if he chose the right successor for his car. But he and Bowyer have been friends for many years and share a similar sense of humor. And at their core, they are both true racers.
"We both have a great sense of humor and our backgrounds are really similar," Stewart said. "We're both dirt track racers, but racing against him I saw things that I saw in myself. I see that drive and determination and he's one of those guys that does not like to lose and that fits what we want at Stewart-Haas Racing."

Bowyer 'confident' in ability to win Daytona 500 for SHR
via NASCAR.com:
Tumblr media
Clint Bowyer is typically a high-wattage personality, so when he arrived in Florida on Tuesday to tour the Naval Air Station Jacksonville to help promote the upcoming Daytona 500, he was absolutely in his element.
The sailors and airmen were excited to meet the Stewart-Haas Racing driver and he was ecstatic to talk about his legitimately high expectations when the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season gets on track at Daytona International Speedway later this month.
"I'm probably as excited for the Daytona 500 in particular -- forget the season starting -- as I've been in a long time," Bowyer said Tuesday from Jacksonville. "I'm as confident in my chances as I've been in a long time.
"I think our cars are looking really good. They've been in the wind tunnel, the guys have been working really hard and we're actually going back to the wind tunnel to perfect them even more.
"So the commitment to the plate racing is something I haven't seen in a while and I'm really excited about the horsepower. Doug Yates has been over to the shop and I've been out-run by his horsepower at these restrictor plate tracks for a few years now so I'm looking forward to reaping the benefits of having one of those under the hood and I think that's how you're going to win this race."
Bowyer, 37, has certainly been close enough to hoisting the sport's biggest trophy. He has finished in the top-10 in half of his starts on the super speedway, including four of the last five Daytona races. He has three top-five finishes including fourth-place runs in the 2009 and 2010 Daytona 500.
Last year Bowyer even salvaged a ninth-place run in the July Daytona race despite driving for an underfunded team, as he waited for his ride at Stewart-Haas to become available in 2017.
And now after a season of mostly frustration -- only three top-10s in 2016 -- driving for a lower-tier, now-defunct team, Bowyer will at last take over the steering wheel from his good friend, three-time Cup champ and team owner Tony Stewart in the famous No. 14 Mobil 1 Ford.
And for the first time in years, Bowyer feels like all systems are a go.
"I'm not blowing smoke when I say I really am confident about my chances at that race," he said about the Daytona 500. "I've gotten close several times at that race. It's one of those tracks you feel like, 'Darn it, I'm gonna win this some day.' I think the cars are looking good in my favor. The equipment I've got underneath me is the best I've had in a long time and the commitment to winning not only (at Daytona) but everywhere is something I haven't seen in a long time and I'm looking forward to having that to my advantage."
As for his visit to Florida this week, Bowyer enjoyed his time spending a day with servicemen. And he offered a heartfelt reminder that fans can show their appreciation for these men and women too -- donate $3, $5, or $10 to the Ticket for the Troops programs and Daytona International Speedway will match the money in its efforts to send military members and their families to the "Great American Race" on Feb. 26.
And Bowyer is hopeful that means they will have a chance to see him again -- standing tall and celebrating loudly in Daytona's Victory Lane.
"I really don't know what I'd do if I won the Daytona 500," Bowyer said. "But this is one of the best opportunities I've ever had and the confidence is as high as it's ever been.
"It felt good to talk racing again, talk about the season and talk to the media. The biggest thing having these interviews kind of tells me is maybe the media is thinking I do have a chance at not only running well but winning a few of these races. I'm looking forward to getting down there to Daytona, getting in the saddle and working with my teammates and coming up with a good package and a good plan to put ourselves in contention."

Clint Bowyer discusses how career is getting second wind with Stewart-Haas Racing
via FOX Sports:
Everything is new for Clint Bowyer in 2017.
Not only will he take over car owner Tony Stewart’s No. 14, but he’ll be doing so in Stewart-Haas Racing’s first year with Ford Performance.
Exciting times for a driver who was ready to put 2016 behind him before the year even came to a close.
Earlier in the week, Bowyer was on FS1’s “NASCAR Race Hub” to talk about just how big this move is for his career after a difficult 2016 season.
“There’s a lot of exciting things here and an unbelievable opportunity,” said Bowyer. “I can’t believe that he (Stewart) actually got out, and somehow, I got in. To have that and to be with Ford, Mobil 1 and everyone involved, it’s just a dream come true.”
After driving Chevrolets throughout his NASCAR career, Bowyer is ready to start fresh with a new manufacturer in Ford.
“For, me it’s an easy transition,” Bowyer added. “You always want to save the best for last, and I’m getting a little long in the tooth, boys. What a wonderful transition it’s been with great people.”
During Charlotte Motor Speedway’s NASCAR Media Tour, Bowyer boasted about just how excited he is to start the season with the talented group of people at SHR.
“A lot of thought really goes into the new season with a new life, a new chance, a new crack at-bat, a new manufacturer, new sponsors, new teammates and a new organization,” said Bowyer. “But, what an unbelievable opportunity it is to go out and do what you love to do, not only to do that but do it in first-class equipment built by racers that only share one thing in common – the will to go out and win races.”
“That’s all they do. It’s all they focus on. It’s all they talk about. It’s all they care about,” Bowyer added. “There’s no fluff and buff. There’s no sales pitch when you walk in the door, there are just guys with their heads down working and digging on building race cars that go fast and win races. Those are the hot rides you want to be in.”

Why Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer is the perfect match at SHR
via FOX Sports:
Tumblr media
The tides of change are rapidly rolling through Stewart-Haas Racing as the 2017 NASCAR Premier Series season will be here before we know it. Any team would be quick to tell you the offseason is really anything but, as some choose to refer to it as the “slower season.”
But, even that doesn’t accurately portray what’s going on behind-the-scenes at SHR, with the organization hard at work making the manufacturer switch from Chevrolet to Ford in time for next year.
And that’s not the only change that’s taking place, as Clint Bowyer will take over the No. 14 Ford Fusion following Tony Stewart’s retirement from full-time NASCAR competition in November.
One of the guys most excited about Bowyer’s move is his new (and old) teammate, Kevin Harvick. The pair served as teammates at Richard Childress Racing from 2006 through 2011, when Bowyer parted ways with the team to join Michael Waltrip Racing in 2012.
“I’m really excited about Clint because I’ve known him since the first time that he sat in a car at RCR. I was there with him,” Harvick told FOXSports.com. “I know a lot about Clint.”
The Harvick/Bowyer reunion is a perfect scenario for SHR, as both drivers are cut from the same old racer fabric – a good old boy, tell it like it is mentality the sport was built upon and their fans adore.
“Clint and I are really good friends, and he is cut from that same Stewart-Haas racer mold that everybody there is pretty much cut by,” Harvick said. “I think Clint coming on board is going to be a positive by knowing him and being friends with him.”
The 2014 NASCAR champion is highly anticipating the opportunity to work alongside him, as Harvick believes Bowyer is right piece to the SHR puzzle.
“Our cars are built side-by-side in the shop, as they have been for the past couple years when Tony was driving them,” Harvick added. “The same people are doing a lot of the same things in the shop.”
“As we go forward with Mike (Bugarewicz) as the crew chief on that car, we have a great working relationship since he was the engineer on my car. There are a lot of things to build on and a lot of positives to look forward to.”

Clint Bowyer, Harry Scott Jr. reach settlement in lawsuit
via ESPN:
Clint Bowyer has settled the $2.2 million lawsuit he filed last week against former team HScott Motorsports and owner Harry Scott Jr.
In a joint statement released by Bowyer and Scott, they reached an amicable, confidential settlement. Bowyer had claimed Scott missed his past two monthly payments that totaled $1.2 million, and that Scott owed him $1 million for helping bring sponsorship to the team.
"Mr. Scott provided additional information to Mr. Bowyer, of which he was not aware, which satisfied him that the claims asserted against Mr. Scott should be dismissed," the statement said. "[Bowyer] and HScott Motorsports then reached a mutual and amicable confidential settlement as to the claims for the debt owed."
Tumblr media
Bowyer drove for HScott in 2016 under a one-year deal, which he signed in September 2015 as a one-year stop-gap before he replaces the retiring Tony Stewart at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2017.
"I am glad our race team and Clint Bowyer ... were able to reach a quick resolution," Scott said. "I wish Clint the best of luck in his career moving forward."
Bowyer had a frustrating season, finishing 27th in the standings.
"I want to thank all the team members for their hard work all season," Bowyer said. "I'm looking forward to the 2017 season and beyond and wish Harry Scott all the best in the future."
Scott has not announced plans for 2017, but he currently has no drivers or sponsors signed for next year, indicating the team probably will discontinue Cup operations. Bowyer had filed the suit the day after the season ended, claiming Scott was liquidating his assets, and obtained a lien on property in the team's possession.

Clint Bowyer sues former race team for $2.2 million
via Sporting News:
Clint Bowyer, who will replace retired star Tony Stewart in the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet in 2017, still has unfinished business with his old team.
Tumblr media
ESPN.com reported Monday that Bowyer has sued HScott Motorsports, claiming the team owes him more than $2.2 million in salary and commission from their one season together.
Clint Bowyer Racing Inc. filed the lawsuit, alleging breach of contract and fraud, against team owner Harry Scott and HScott Motorsports.
According to the complaint, filed Nov. 21 in North Carolina Superior Court, Bowyer alleges that the team missed a total of $1.2 million in payments owed him in October and November, and he claims the team also owes him more than $1 million in commission for bringing several sponsors to the team.
"[Scott and the team] are in financial distress and in negotiations with various creditors to settle substantial debts ... all the while [they] refuse to pay [Bowyer] for services performed," the complaint reads.
HScott Motorsports spokesman Ramsey Poston would not discuss details of the suit with ESPN, but called it "frivolous and capricious."
"It is also important to know that Mr. Scott has used personal resources to loan money to the race team to support it, and to allege that he has taken money out of the race team is simply false," Poston told ESPN. "Mr. Scott and the team will aggressively defend itself and will ultimately prevail."
HScott Motorsports is expected to cease operations, according to ESPN. But Bowyer and his attorney obtained an order of attachment, a lien that requires the team to maintain at least $2.22 million in assets as the lawsuit is litigated.

Clint Bowyer looks ahead and not back with Stewart-Haas Racing
In an exclusive with FOX Sports, Bowyer details the move to Stewart-Haas Racing.
Tumblr media
The second-happiest driver to take the checkered flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway behind the seven-time NASCAR Premier Series champion Jimmie Johnson may well have been Clint Bowyer.
Bowyer, who as recently as 2012 finished second in the championship race, wound up 27th in points in 2016, a full 10 spots behind his worst previous career points finish.
In 2016, Bowyer had no wins, no poles, no top fives, three top 10s and only three laps led in 36 races.
But it really had more to do with the team than it did the driver. A lot more, actually.
A quick history lesson: In early 2015, Bowyer signed a new contract to stay at Michael Waltrip Racing, where he had been since 2012. Then in the summer of ‘15, team owner Rob Kauffman announced he was pulling the plug and shutting the team down at the end of the season.
Bowyer then signed a deal to replace Tony Stewart at the powerhouse Stewart-Haas Racing team in 2017, where he is expected to once again contend for race victories and the championship.
That left 2016 to figure out. Bowyer inked a one-year-only contract to drive for the small HScott Motorsports team, a squad that does the best it can with what it has, but has a fraction of the resources of the big teams.
That led to a forgettable season for Bowyer, but in an exclusive interview with FOXSports.com, Bowyer said he’s excited about the future.
Still, 2016 was a tough pill to swallow.
“It’s such a long, grueling schedule for everybody involved,” Bowyer told FOXSports.com. “And then having that opportunity ahead at Stewart-Haas and getting to know those guys and having to learn new people, new partners, new manufacturer, new teammates.”
It will be a big change and big step up for Bowyer.
“There’s so much new to go over there to,” said Bowyer. “And new is always fun and exciting.”
Bowyer is ready to be in a competitive car again.
“The performance Stewart-Haas has had is second to none really, in the last five or six years,” he said. “That’s why I took that opportunity.”
And despite his struggles, Bowyer has ho regrets about his year with HScott.
“It was a year waiting,” said Bowyer. “Thank God Harry Scott and his organization came along, because truth be told, I signed that deal (with Stewart-Haas) prepared to sit on the couch and wait a year. It’s been a frustrating year, but it damn sure beat sitting on the couch all year long.”

I’m Sorry
I know I’m the worst. I haven’t updated since March, but 2016 has been testing me big time. But I am NOT deleting this blog. I don’t even know how many followers I have left...but I will do my best to get back into this, especially with Clint joining Stewart-Haas next year. Plus I attended the Homestead races this weekend and have some of my own photos to share.
I hope everyone is well.

Fontana
After starting 29th in yesterday’s Auto Club 400, Clint finished P18, which isn’t bad. He’s currently 31st in the standings with 66 points.
I know we’re only 5 races into the season, but I really hope they can turn things around. I love that he joined HScott to help build them up and “leave them better than when he came.” Clint is a fantastic driver and is capable of doing great things. Let’s hope that they’re working on getting him a solid car that can help him show off those skills!

HScott Motorsports unveils new sponsor, scheme for Bowyer
via NASCAR:
Tumblr media
HScott Motorsports and Clint Bowyer have welcomed a new sponsor. A VISINE paint scheme will adorn Clint Bowyer's No. 15 Chevrolet fielded by HScott Motorsports as primary sponsor in three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events this season. VISINE will also serve as an associate sponsor and marketing partner for the entire season.
The primary sponsorship includes the races at Auto Club Speedway on March 20, Texas Motor Speedway on April 9 and Pocono Raceway on June 5.
Last month, HScott Motorsports announced that it was moving shop locations from Spartanburg, South Carolina to Mooresville, North Carolina. The team also revealed that Bowyer will continue to pilot the No. 15, which is a transposition for HScott, which inherited the No. 51 when it purchased the team from James Finch in 2013.
5-Hour Energy will be the primary sponsor of Bowyer's entry for 24 of next season's 36 races.

New Year, New Ride
Welcome to 2016, everyone! It’s a new year and a new start...and a new ride! Clint will only be with HScott Motorsports for the 2016 season, but this gives him an opportunity to show his true potential as a driver. We’ve all seen it and know what he’s capable of and it’s time that the rest of NASCAR Nation is filled in on it too.

Rough Finish, Great Comeback
“That was frustrating. No doubt about it. But it was also a heck of a comeback. I’m never going to be happy with a 22nd-place finish, but our 5-hour ENERGY crew kept working and working tonight to get us back in the game. Brian Pattie made some pretty bold calls at the end. We will get this figured out.” - Clint
Finishing 22nd isn’t exactly great, but coming back from being down 4 laps isn’t something to sneer at either. The team did a great job of getting Clint back on the lead lap.

Starting 10th in Fontana
Tumblr media
The 15 team should be much happier with this week’s starting position. It’s easier to win a race when starting closer to the front.
According to Clint via MWR, “It should be a fun race. To be good there though you have to be able to roll into the corner and drive through it right up against the wall. There’s always some good three-wide racing and last year we had our PEAK Toyota in position in the closing laps –like nearly won the darn thing but just had a tire go down with a lap to go. Excited to go back though and see if we can close the deal this time.”
Although Clint doesn’t have any wins at Fontana, he has 2 top-five and 7 top-ten finishes with an average finish of 12.93 with 14 starts.
---
Tumblr media
In related MWR news, Brian Vickers will miss at least three months of competition due to blood clots in his lungs. The treatment for the blood clots involves taking blood thinners and it is unsafe to race while undergoing medication.
“Thankfully, because I recognized the signs and symptoms, the doctors caught this early and I’m going to be ok. I had finished my treatment for the clot I had in my leg back in 2013 and I haven’t needed to be on a blood thinner for a clot in my leg or lung since,” said Vickers. “Now I won’t be able to race because I’ll need to be back on a blood thinner. I’m going to follow doctor’s orders and do everything I need to do to get well.”
We’re wishing Brian all the best! Although we’ll miss seeing him on the track, we want him to get back to 100%.
