@aniab. More in caption. What I learned about #FeriadeAbril in #Sevilla 🇪🇦 after our first time attending.
1. The Feria starts exactly two weeks after Easter Sunday and marks the official start to Feria season in Spain that goes until mid October
2. The Feria starts with the lighting of the Portada at midnight on that Saturday, there is a big opening show and celebration
3. The portada changes every year and is the main entrance to the Feria grounds
4. There is no admission fee to attend, Feria is FREE for everyone
5. Even though the opening hours are 12pm - 3am the grounds don't get busy until later in the day, so don't feel like you have to be there early. The party really starts when the sun goes down
6. All the horses leave at 8pm and the grounds are taken over by foot traffic
7. Feria has two sections, the midway and the casetas, which are mostly private tents belonging to families or businesses that entertain their special guests but there are public ones you can go into, you can order food and drinks and dance to live music.
8. Feria's drink of choice is the Rebujito, a sherry x sprite cocktail which they sell by the litre.
9. Women wear flamenco dresses and men wear suits or the traditional Andalusian cowboy outfit.
10. There is an entire Flamenco fashion week leading up to Feria so women can start ordering their designer dresses with plenty of time to spare
11. When you get dressed for Feria keep in mind that you WILL get your feet dirty so choose footwear wisely, all the women wear espadrilles which are inexpensive and accessible at almost every shoe store in Seville, do NOT wear your nice shoes when coming here, they will get covered with horse poop, yellow dirt and water. Espadrilles save lives
12. The busiest days at Feria are Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, this is also when you'll see the best outfits
13. Nobody dresses in Flamenco for the lighting of the Portada. The locals dress more casually as the week goes on with Sunday and Tuesday being the most dressed up days (continued in comments)
