His plan had been to infiltrate a Russian psychiatric center and expose the deplorable conditions. He was an ex-pat, a freelance writer from America living in Moscow. He cribbed together a few assignments here and there but he needed a big break. Finally he stumbled upon it when he was talking to a friend whose uncle had been placed in a psychiatric hospital. His family had been allowed to visit and “conditions were disgusting” the man said in his broken English. “Tied up. Diapered. Force fed. Verbally abused. Physically abused. We try and get him escape.”

He thought the story sounded amazing. Perfect for an American outlet like Vice that liked stories of foreign craziness. He’d grown to hate Russia’s government and its incompetence and evil and he was ready to expose how they treated their most vulnerable people. He’d go undercover. Stay for a week, get his pictures and stories and that’d be it.

That was the plan anyway.

Now here he lay. Thickly diapered in Pampers. Incontinent of both bowel and bladder. Heavily restrained. Hooded. Gagged. Force fed. Shaved. Spanked on thighs by orderlies and on his ass during the rare bath time he was allowed. His notebooks? Shredded. His little video camera? Melted down. His identity papers? Burned up. The government knew his plan the whole time. That’s what surveillance on foreign journalists gets you. They informed the clinic and the doctors soon learned during basic questionining that no one knew he was there. The “patient” presented as depressed and feeling suicidal. That was his cover but they knew it was bullshit. Within an hour everything was taken from him and he was kept isolated from other patients until his will was broken. He was never out of diapers. He had long ago cut off contact with what family he had so they wouldn’t miss him. He’d never told his editors back home his plan. This was now his home. His mind would be turned into mush within three months, doctors figured. He’d blabber incoherently if he spoke at all. The drool from the ECT would require 24 hour bibs. When not eating a large pacifier would be stuffed into his cocky American mouth. He would spend his day amongst the psychos and the criminally insane, forever diapered, forever tied up, locked down, cuffed. The doctors and nurses all knew of his treachery and so took special delight in torturing him. How dare this fucking American try to pretend his country was better.

He was 25 years old. Kept fed and relatively healthy, he could live another 50 years in his new home. Tens of thousands of diapers before death would release him from his Pampers prison. He sure did stumble upon a hell of a story. Too bad he’d never get to write it.
