everyday i yearn for a podcast of light, L, and matsuda. not for anything plot-wise though. like i just want to see them in a room together discussing the moral ethics of banging an AI or something. like i want those hoes to find out what furries are and then make them take fursona quizzes against their will. like sad boyz except it's just may-or-may-not-be-serial-killers boyz. that's the yotsuba arc i want somebody please tell me i'm not the only one please.

Death Note AU where hbomberguy makes a five hour long video about youtuber Light Yagami that's initially completely unrelated to the murders (Light would probably plagiarize or have really unhinged right-wing political takes if he was on youtube)

but halfway through he reveals that while researching he stumbled upon evidence that Light might be behind the Kira murders, and then spends like fourty minutes explaining the concept of a shinigami, an hour explaining how he thinks Light used one to commit murders, and then another hour explaining Light's ideology and why the concept of criminals being inherently evil is flawed

He finishes the video by addressing Light directly and telling him that he (Hbomberguy) had his name legally changed before uploading the video, to something that only he knows, making it impossible for Light to kill him

alright, so according to a 2019 filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Watcher Entertainment, Inc does have private investors beyond steven/ryan/shane.

all this to say, investors have been involved since before they launched. it probably was always the plan. we just got too parasocial and missed it I think

part of my whole thing with watcher is that. a lot of there content came from their audience. like.. are you scared, too many spirits, non insignificant portions of mystery files and ghost files. that wasn’t just them. it was us. we handed them shit on a sliver platter. they literally just got FREE content from their audiences, ESPECIALLY with too many spirits and are you scared. they’re just not gonna have that anymore.

Why doesn’t the company move out of LA? Why don’t they downsize production costs and stop making ridiculously expensive shows? Why doesn’t Steven Lim buy a car that isn’t a Tesla? Why don’t Shane and Ryan stop dropping so much money on new ghost-finding gadgets and doodads, and instead use what they’ve already bought to investigate cheaper locations? Why didn’t Watcher do a modicum of research on their market before making a sudden (and idiotic) decision to move themselves behind a paywall? More on this at 3

Look I’m not trying to be shady but you can’t convince me that Steven wasn’t the biggest driving force behind this lol. The podcasts make him sound like such a finance bro + he grew up wealthy. I remember his response to someone struggling financially was to “get another job and save money”. Even his Instagram post about this is wildly out of touch. “For those who won’t be joining us in the next chapter”. My guy I’m sure plenty of people would love to but you’ve made it inaccessible now.

genuinely cannot imagine dickriding the watcher guys the way some of you have been. like they made a bad business decision! they alienated their audience! they made jokes about "eating the rich" and then one of their owners turned around and bought a tesla! they said they'd pull all their old content off youtube and then immediately backpedaled and started gaslighting the people who noticed it! they're just guys on the internet, they're not your friends and they are not anti-capitalists. they just want money and they don't care about their primarily young/international/non-wealthy audience.
