I know everyone is mad at JB and M but really they must be heartbroken their son is in Jail. They must either think he is guilty or set up by the government. I dont understand why JB didnt go and listen to all of the evidence. Surely one of the other kids who attended would say the evidence was all there to their parents? I also wonder if Austin has approached them?
I'm sure they are heartbroken and probably in a lot of denial. I can only speculate as to why Jim Bob does anything that he does........I've always just assumed he's a little bit delusional, in a literal way. Not to get all armchair psychologist again, but I think a lot of the reason he created the life he has is because it's a very simple, morally black and white way of living; I don't think JB is kept up at night much struggling with the dilemma of being a good person, if that makes sense. And it's comfortable in his alternate universe where there are definite, infallible rules/truths about the nature of good and evil.
So I think anything that challenges that and adds moral complexity is just kind of immediately deflected. I think Josh gave him an excuse and he accepted it and isn't willing to face evidence to the contrary that might make him believe otherwise, because that would also mean entertaining the idea that a child he raised the 'right' way might have done this objectively horrible thing. And then what does that say about him, or even about what God thinks of him? Did Josh turn out this way because of JB’s own moral failing? This opens up a whole pandoa’s box of late-night existential crises.
Assuming that any of that is true, I don't think he'd be super open to discussions like the ones you've mentioned. I've always got the vibe that he was kind of hard to communicate with in a genuine way, even from the early days (he just has that walled-off dad aura that is palpable idk) so I don't know.

terf turned tradfem sounds like them yeah. they reblogged a post saying that men who wear nail polish and are feminists are anti women??? like what... the op of that post reblogged anti terf stuff but yeah.. i thought they were someone who was tired of weird fundie snark bs like on duggar snark but nah.. they are a tradfem
yeah it definitely seemed like they were taking things personally. i thought that speculating over people kissing based on the cold sores they have was a little goofy, but that person was really salty and judgy for no reason, especially since it wasn’t like anyone was saying something out of left field for a snark blog. i honestly didn’t know that someone could go from being a terf to being a tradwife lol

a tell-all resulting from the collaborative effort of duggar defectors is one of my biggest pipe dreams but now more than ever i want it to be true so badly. the cultural impact would be ginormous
1000000% I think that it’s Josiah and Lauren that are trying to leave, according to Derick’s tweets.

A Few Comments
Duggar Data absolutely, unequivocally condemns child abuse in any form.  The charges levied against Joshua Duggar are truly, truly appalling.  If he is guilty of this, his conduct is intolerable; he must be punished, and prevented from doing this ever again.
Duggar Data stands in solidarity with victims.  Recognizing that this topic may be difficult for some, I’ll be making an effort to tag potentially triggering posts with #TW child abuse.  And, any Post discussing Josh’s current situation will also be tagged with #josh duggar arrest.
If you’re in crisis, help is available.  If you’re in the United States, the National Sexual Assault Hotline is available day or night at 1–800–656–HOPE (4673), or via online chat.  You’re not alone.
Stay strong, y’all.

i did not consider a lot of this when i was thinking about this whole situation. wow.
Submission
People need more compassion and understanding for Anna. I am a social worker and this stigma that it is the woman’s fault for not leaving traps so many women. She is not dumb. It takes educated, strong women with financial means years to leave abusive or bad relationship. Anna was married off to a predator at a young age, she has young children, no career education, no way to financially support her children, and is in a different state than her family. Why would anyone expect her to leave quickly? Sure she had loved ones offer support, but it can take 100s of offers of support before you accept. You can think you would, but most women in this situation take years to leave because it is such a messed up thing they begin rationalizing it any way they can and through processing what is going on, they often make bad decision. Maybe Anna stayed because she is worried about custody and thinks she can keep her children safe from Josh if he is in her presence. Maybe she thinks at least her children are fed and housed and worries they will be worse off if she left. Maybe she thinks her inability to financially provide for her children means they will be sent to foster homes where they could be abused without her protection. Maybe she thinks taking her children away from their cousins, likely their support system, would hurt them more. Maybe she thinks their happiness is more important than hers and sees staying as her best shot at keeping them happy, for whatever reason. Anna clearly loves her children and sometimes mothers make irrational decisions while trying to protect their babies. We do not even know if Josh, a man who is capable of child sexual abuse, abused Anna as well. Maybe he has threatened her.
The same goes for Jimbob and Michelle. Yes they made mistakes when they first caught Josh molesting children, but they get zero blame from what we know so far. Blaming the parents is part of why it gets covered up so often. You can see the Duggar parents took steps to try to prevent this from happening again, even if they were misguided. I live in Appalachia and we have a problem with families covering up sexual abuse because they do not trust the authorities. This stems from previously taking all of the children away when one person was the abuser. For example if uncle John molested Sally or if step brother Jim molested Timmy, previously the authorities would take ALL of the children in the home away, not Uncle John or step bro Jim. Many families saw this and lost trust, worrying that they would lose their children and not be able to protect them any more. So they resorted to covering it up. Maybe this happened in Arkansas too. It is only now after decades of reeducation that my generation is starting to trust the authorities and report sexual abuse. We should also remember that the internet was not as widely available and didn’t have nearly as much information back then, especially for a conservative family that was hesitant to use various forms of media. People were not educated on sexual abuse when J&M went to school like we were. Given their ages and belief systems, they did quite well in their response to Josh. Definitely not perfect, but I have seen much worse. You cannot forget they are parents and how paralyzing the sheer level of shock is that comes with learning your child, whom you love and rocked as a baby, is capable of doing something as heinous as sexual abuse of a minor.
This was long, so sorry. I understand all of the anger at Josh. Completely justified. We just all need to do better at directing that anger towards Josh and Josh alone and not blaming anyone else. Certainly not perpetuating dangerous victim blaming or stereotypes and name calling that prevent others from seeking help. (Not you or anyone else specifically, I just keep seeing people call out Anna and others for not reacting the way they think they should. Tragedy rarely allows people to think rationally).

Thanks for providing this perspective. I’m not going to add too much more to this other than to say I think it’s a hard conversation to have in general. It is especially difficult on Tumblr because it’s expected that your opinion needs to boil down to a 1 or 2 sentence statement.
