yuu here, how have you been?
i’m deeply sorry for not updating telepath in a month, it has definitely been one of the worst months of my life and i have had a very hard time even doing my own schoolwork. writing telepath has been a way for me to disconnect from everything, but even then, it truly became a struggle.
thank you for all the continuous support, i am deeply grateful for it, and for waiting soooo long. it still is a struggle, but i guess i’m doing better now.
i did not want to upload half-assed chapters when the story i have in mind does not deserve that. chapter 5 has been in my drafts for the longest time, and i haven’t finished it. being honest, i did forget about it for a long time, however this week has been slightly better, and i’m definitively trying to go on with my life.
now, i really want to thank @oddeyecir-cle for the post where she recommends my au. it kinda snapped me back into place, thank you so much for that.
i’ll try and finish the chapter this week, finally. and upload it, finally.
thank you for the wait.
love, yuu.

i wanna know if renjun is starting to like yn and that’s why he doesn’t want to do anything with the liking each other
hi, anonnn
no, not quite. renjun's personality is more trouble avoidant... kind of. he really does not want anything to do with it because he would never be able to chose a side. eventually you'll see that but yeah hah
besides, he benefits from both of them. she is his first friend, and he is his smartest friend. he has trouble at school, and haechan helps him most of the time. so it wouldn't be smart for him to choose sides either.
and no, he never likes y/n, their relationship is quite pure and innocent. they confide a bunch in each other, sometimes it might feel one-sided but it isn’t, he cares for her and even later on where he is almost always learning stuff about haechan because of yn against his will he listens to her, and she has the softest spot for him :)
let’s just say he balances her out

004: the perfect pair wc: 2,943
haechan was known for his charm and flirty nature. he reveled in the thrill of the chase, the excitement of flirting and pushing boundaries to see just how far he could go. he was a master of lighthearted banter and the art of seduction, but his biggest flaw, perhaps, was his fear of commitment.
he was allergic to it, like a cat to water, and responsibility was something he often avoided. when things got too serious, he had a tendency to distance himself, casting blame on others and brushing off any consequences. that was the pattern he had fallen into before, and unfortunately, you had become ensnared in it as well.
the first few weeks back at school had been a whirlwind of emotions, but the initial tension had subsided, and you had managed to create a comfortable, if somewhat lukewarm, distance between yourself and haechan. avoiding him had become a skill you had honed to perfection, maintaining the boundaries you had set, even if it meant missing out on some of the more fun and spontaneous moments with your group of friends.
however, that fragile balance was shattered when the day came for the intro to system design class. the professor, perhaps inadvertently, managed to upend your carefully orchestrated avoidance strategy by assigning pairs for a group project. to your dismay, you found yourself selected as haechan's partner.
the moment you heard your names paired together, your heart sank. it was as if the universe had conspired to push you right back where you had tried so hard to escape. you couldn't help but wonder if it was just a cruel twist of fate.
as you made your way to haechan's side, you couldn't ignore the sense of impending turbulence. the project, which was meant to be a team effort, suddenly felt like a ticking time bomb, and you were trapped in the middle of it. you knew that working closely with haechan would test your boundaries and potentially unravel the delicate balance you had managed to establish. however, as the days went by, you realized that things weren't as awkward or tense as you had expected them to be. It was almost as if everything that had transpired that day had been a product of your imagination and loneliness.
you found yourself sitting next to haechan during that class most of the time, and to your surprise, the fights and confrontations that had marked your past encounters had ceased. instead, you discovered a side of haechan that was surprisingly easygoing and even humorous.
you were slowly, but steadily, getting to know him better, and it was hard to deny that you were becoming friends. yet, beneath the surface, those lingering feelings for him never really went away.
as you learned more about him, you couldn't help but fall just a bit more for haechan. it was as if the more you got to know him, the deeper you were drawn into the enigmatic allure of his personality. the lines between friendship and something more became increasingly blurred, and you couldn't help but acknowledge that your emotions for him had grown stronger, even though you tried to keep them in check.
Tumblr media
in the midst of a particularly tedious lecture, you found your eyelids growing heavy. the professor's voice seemed to blend into a monotonous tone, and the dimly lit classroom only added to the soothing embrace of sleep.
your head gently sank lower, and you struggled to keep your eyes open. haechan, who was seated next to you, had been observing your struggle with sleep.
as your eyes fluttered shut, you found yourself drifting into a light slumber. the classroom noises melted away, and you entered the realm of dreams. unbeknownst to you, haechan's gaze lingered on your peaceful expression.
moments later, the soft sound of the professor's voice calling your name woke you from your brief nap. your eyes snapped open, and to your surprise, you found yourself making eye contact with haechan. his gaze held a mixture of amusement and curiosity, and your cheeks flushed with embarrassment at having been caught napping in class.
the moment hung in the air, and for a brief instant, it was just the two of you locked in a silent, unspoken connection.
as the lecture continued, haechan seemed to sense your unease after the brief eye contact. he leaned closer to you and whispered something, a sly remark about the professor's penchant for monotone lectures. it was a small, humorous comment, but it managed to catch you off guard and make you laugh, a genuine and warm laugh that bubbled up from deep within.
haechan's smile in response was a sight to behold. it was a bright, genuine grin that transformed his face, and for the first time, you found your heart actually fluttering at the sight of it.
there was a charm and charisma to his smile that you couldn't deny, and it had a way of dispelling the lingering tension in the room.
the two of you shared a moment of lightheartedness, a connection that transcended the complex emotions that had defined your relationship. it was a simple exchange, a shared laugh, but it left an indelible mark in your heart.
after the class you couldn't help but feel a growing attraction to him. it was something you couldn't easily dismiss, and it weighed on your mind.
you decided to confide in renjun.
one evening, when you found yourselves alone, you took a deep breath and finally opened up to him.
renjun, i need to tell you something—you began, your voice tinged with uncertainty.
— i think i like haechan.
renjun, who had always been a pillar of support, listened carefully. he furrowed his brow, clearly deep in thought, and then sighed.
—look, i get it. haechan can be charming, but don't let yourself get too caught up in this. it might just be confusion, or maybe even a fleeting attraction. we've all been there, besides, don't you hate him?
you were taken aback by renjun's response. you had expected understanding and maybe even some advice, but his dismissive attitude left you feeling deflated. you wanted to explain your feelings further, but renjun's words seemed to imply that your emotions were unwarranted or that they didn't matter.
he continued—and remember, we're all friends here. don't let this ruin the group dynamic. haechan can be... complicated, and you don't want things to get messy.
you nodded, even though his words left a bitter taste in your mouth. you knew renjun was trying to protect the harmony of the group, but your feelings for haechan were real, and his advice felt like a cold bucket of water on them.
Tumblr media
in the days that followed your conversation with renjun, you made a conscious effort to suppress your feelings for haechan. you tried to convince yourself that what you wanted was simple—a kiss. a single, fleeting moment of closeness and connection, without allowing deeper emotions to come into play.
you reasoned that a kiss was just a physical gesture, an expression of desire, and that it didn't have to complicate the dynamics of your friendship with the group. it was a way to explore your attraction without diving headlong into the deep waters of emotional attachment.
but the more you tried to convince yourself of this, the harder it became. each time you saw haechan, a wave of longing washed over you, and it became increasingly challenging to keep your emotions in check. the connection between you two continued to deepen, and the moments of laughter and shared jokes only fueled your desire for more.
you found yourself stealing glances at haechan when you thought no one was looking, and your thoughts were increasingly consumed by fantasies of that elusive kiss. the chemistry between you two was undeniable, and it seemed like a matter of time before you would give in to your desires.
Tumblr media
i think i like you—you blurted out as you walked side by side with him across the sun-drenched campus. the warmth of the sun seemed more intense than you had realized, and you used your hand to shield your face from its rays. in that moment, you hadn't thought things through thoroughly, and the words spilled out before you could stop them.
you think?— was the only response he gave after a few moments of silence, and he said it with an air of casual indifference, as if he didn't care one way or the other.
though you wanted to express more, you found yourself grappling with a mix of emotions. were you trying to tell him that you liked him, or that you were dying to kissing him? it was a confusing whirlwind of feelings, and all that escaped your lips was a simple,
—yeah.
in return, all that came from his mouth was another uncomplicated statement
—well, think about it.
Tumblr media
the day after your unexpected confession to haechan, you were filled with a anxiety. you couldn't help but replay the previous day's conversation in your mind, questioning whether you had been too forward or if you had misinterpreted his response. the weight of it all became too much, and as the morning sun filtered through your curtains, you made the decision to skip school.
that day, you immersed yourself in introspection, trying to make sense of your emotions and the potential implications of your confession. the hours passed in a haze of contemplation, but you couldn't shake the uneasiness that lingered in your heart.
meanwhile, at campus, haechan noticed your absence and felt a sense of unease himself. he decided to confide in renjun, sharing the events of the previous day.
—you know, y/n told me she likes me—he said, his voice tinged with a sense of bewilderment—it was so unexpected, and it caught me off guard.
renjun, on the other hand, didn't seem very interested in the situation. he sighed, leaning against the table,
—haechan, you know how complicated these things can get. just let it go, you already know how lovesick she is, it'll pass.
haechan, while shocked and somewhat weirded out by the confession, found himself torn. he had always been a master of flirtation and charm, but the prospect of something more serious was a path he wasn't ready to tread.
as the day passed, you couldn't help but wonder how haechan was processing your confession.
Tumblr media
after your unexpected confession and the following day's absence from school, you returned to your regular routine, trying to blend in as though nothing had happened. the rest of the group, including renjun, seemed content to ignore the fact that your confession ever took place, and they went about their usual activities. it was as if a collective decision had been made to preserve the harmony of the group.
as time passed, you couldn't help but feel a noticeable shift in the dynamic between you and haechan. while the group maintained the façade of normalcy, it was evident that a fracture had formed between you and haechan. an undercurrent of complexity that refused to fade.
renjun, as you had expected, avoided getting involved in any romantic entanglements within the group. his disinterest in the matter was palpable, and he was determined to keep the group's dynamics intact. chenle, on the other hand, remained blissfully oblivious to the entire situation, unaware of your confession and the changes it had triggered.
over time, both you and haechan made an effort to rebuild the friendship that had been strained by your confession. slowly, you started to find your footing once again, it was as if the unspoken pact to ignore your feelings allowed the two of you to reclaim the connection that had always been a significant part of your friendship.
the tension that had hung between you had lessened, and it seemed that the fractures were healing, albeit gradually.
Tumblr media
the evening was lit by the soft glow of the string lights hung around the cozy dorm room. the atmosphere was relaxed, and the faint scent of pizza wafted through the air. you, haechan, and your two other friends had decided to indulge in some much-needed drinking at your friend's dorm, tucked away on the other side of campus.
as the evening progressed, you and haechan found yourselves becoming progressively tipsy. the drinks had loosened your inhibitions, and you couldn't help but engage in playful banter and laughter with your friends. the more you sipped your drinks, the more the world outside seemed to fade away.
haechan, whose usual charm had been amplified by the alcohol, was the life of the party, cracking jokes and making everyone laugh. his laughter was infectious, and you couldn't help but join in, even though a part of you couldn't help but wonder if the alcohol was revealing something deeper in your feelings for him.
as the night wore on and the effects of the alcohol continued to take hold, you found yourself feeling increasingly comfortable and relaxed in haechan's presence. the tipsy warmth had dulled your inhibitions, and a sense of affection had welled up within you.
in a moment of impulse, you shifted closer to haechan and rested your head on his shoulder. his presence, familiar and comforting, seemed like the perfect place to lean on as you basked in the tipsy euphoria of the night. the room's laughter and chatter carried on around you, but in that moment, it was as if the world had narrowed down to just the two of you.
haechan, who had been engaged in a lively conversation, looked down at you in surprise but with a gentle smile. his arm instinctively wrapped around your shoulders, drawing you closer to him.
you found yourself feeling content, your eyes half-lidded as you reveled in the closeness of the moment. the playful banter and laughter continued around you, but for now, you were lost in the comfort of resting your head on haechan's shoulder, finding solace in his presence as the night went on.
with your head resting on his shoulder, he subtly shifted in his seat, allowing his hand to gently rest on your thigh. the touch was tender, a silent gesture of affection and intimacy that seemed to be in tune with the tipsy warmth of the evening.
your heart quickened as you felt his hand on your thigh, the contact sending a rush of sensation through your body. the room's lively conversation continued around you, but in that moment, it was as if the two of you were sharing an unspoken connection that transcended the boundaries of friendship.
you couldn't help but meet his gaze, and in the soft, dimly lit room, it was a moment of unspoken desire, a shared secret.
Tumblr media
as the night continued, haechan's announcement that the two of you would be leaving together came by unnoticed. they nodded in understanding, offering their goodbyes and well-wishes as they continued to enjoy the evening. with the final rounds of laughter and chatter, you and haechan eventually made your way to the door.
the campus at this hour was calm and dimly lit, the night air cool and refreshing. it was a tranquil contrast to the lively dorm room you had just left. walking side by side, you and haechan made your way toward the exit, the atmosphere filled with a sense of anticipation.
as you strolled through the serene campus, you couldn't help but enjoy the closeness that had developed between you and haechan throughout the evening. however, instead of heading directly to your respective dorms, you both decided to make an impromptu stop at a nearby convenience store.
you and haechan wandered through the aisles, playfully bickering over which snacks to choose.
as the two of you lingered by a wall, the drinks and snacks long forgotten, you found yourself in a tranquil and intimate moment. your head was resting on haechan's shoulder, and his presence had a calming effect that was unlike anything you had experienced before.
however, the atmosphere began to change as haechan gently moved you to stand in front of him. his hands settled on your waist, sending a shiver of anticipation down your spine. your eyes met his, and the room seemed to fall away, leaving just the two of you in your own private world.
in that electrifying moment, as haechan's lips met yours, the world seemed to vanish around you. the kiss was a symphony of sensations, a gentle exploration of shared desire and affection.
his lips were soft and warm, fitting perfectly against yours, and they moved with a tender, deliberate rhythm. it was a kiss filled with a quiet intensity, a merging of two souls drawn together by the magnetic force of their unspoken connection.
the taste of the evening's drinks lingered on your lips, adding a hint of sweetness to the moment. haechan's hands, which had been resting on your waist, slid slightly, pulling you closer as if he couldn't get enough of the closeness. the air became charged with an electric tension. the connection that had always simmered between you two had come to the forefront, and it was impossible to resist the pull any longer.
the world seemed to stand still in that instant, and you couldn't help but melt into the kiss, the chemistry between you and haechan sparking to life. it was a tender and unforgettable moment, and as you broke away, your hearts were left racing, and it was clear that the boundaries that had once defined your relationship had shifted once again, leaving the two of you in a newfound realm of complexity and intimacy.

003 | unspoken words wc: 1,989 (lmaooo, stream 1989 tv)
right after you bid your goodbyes, you were left alone with an unsettling sensation gnawing at the pit of your stomach. it was a feeling that, despite your best efforts to ignore, you couldn't quite brush aside. and that scared you, deep down, because the familiarity of this emotion was something you didn't need at the moment.
as you walked away from the encounter with haechan, you couldn't help but replay those intense moments in your mind. the way his voice had softened, the electric chemistry between you two, the playful banter that had lingered in the air—it all haunted your thoughts. you'd known haechan for quite some time, and although you'd been rivals, even enemies at times, this new sensation you couldn't escape was foreign and unsettling.
it was tempting to rationalize it away. perhaps he was merely being polite, or maybe he was just being his usual annoying self, which explained the proximity of your faces. but every excuse you conjured up felt hollow and unconvincing. deep down, you knew that these explanations didn't hold water.
the truth was, haechan had managed to break through your defenses, and you were undeniably starting to feel something you had been trying to suppress, an emotion you hadn't allowed yourself to acknowledge before. you couldn't quite put your finger on it, but there was a magnetic pull, a curiosity that you couldn't escape.
a curiosity that had always been there.
the days that followed the party were filled with a constant internal battle. you couldn't shake the feeling that something had irrevocably changed between you and haechan. those stolen moments and charged encounters refused to fade into distant memories, and you found yourself yearning for more.
you had always prided yourself on keeping your emotions in check, never letting anyone get too close or too comfortable. but with haechan, it seemed like all those defenses had been effortlessly dismantled. it was unnerving, to say the least.
you tried to distract yourself, diving into school work and studying, but every time your mind wandered, it drifted back to him. the way his eyes had held yours, the teasing tone of his voice, the way his smirk had made your heart race—it was as if haechan had carved out a space in your thoughts that you couldn't ignore.
one evening, as you were out with friends, you found yourself absentmindedly checking your phone for messages that never came. you realized that you were hoping for a message from haechan, a sign that he, too, was thinking about that night. it was a dangerous revelation, and it scared you even more.
Tumblr media
but he never reached out. not until your birthday, at least.
your 19th birthday had come and gone without much fanfare. it was just another day, and it felt like age brought nothing new to the table. most of the day was spent in solitude, hunched over your computer, grappling with the complexities of your intro to data structure and algorithm course. the virtual world provided a sanctuary where you could bury yourself in your studies, away from the complexities of the emotions you had been grappling with.
as the evening grew late, and your room bathed in the soft glow of your computer screen, you realized it was time to retreat to your bed. you longed for the comfort of your sheets and the solace of sleep.
just as you were about to settle in, your phone buzzed with an incoming call. it was a surprise. your heart raced as you answered, but when you picked up, there was nothing but silence on the other end, and then the call abruptly ended. you stared at your phone in confusion, your heart sinking.
moments later, a text message from haechan lit up your screen. it was a half-hearted explanation, a simple "misunderstanding." the words were followed by a casual, "oh, happy birthday."
you sat there, staring at the message for a moment, trying to decipher the mix of emotions that washed over you. it was as though he had remembered your birthday and reached out, but the call had ended abruptly, leaving you perplexed. it was a cryptic gesture, one that only added to the complexity of your feelings for him. it left you wondering what his intentions were, and whether he was playing another game with you, or if there was something more genuine beneath the surface.
and as you lay in bed that night, staring at the ceiling, the "happy birthday" message from haechan replayed in your mind, leaving you with even more questions than answers. it was clear that whatever was developing between you two was far from straightforward, and you couldn't help but wonder what would happen next.
the following day, haechan reached out once more. his message was apologetic, explaining that he had been out celebrating with friends and had had a bit too much to drink. he confessed that he hadn't meant to call you but had mistakenly dialed your number during the commotion. his words were accompanied by an embarrassed emoji, as if he couldn't quite shake off the awkwardness of the situation.
you couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and disappointment. his explanation was plausible, and it did make sense that a drunken call could have been unintentional. but a part of you couldn't help but wish that it had been deliberate, that he had wanted to reach out to you on your birthday, you found yourself trapped in a whirlwind of thoughts about him. his message had provided a plausible reason for the call, but that didn't stop your mind from racing with the what-ifs and maybes. you were being slowly consumed by thoughts of him, and it felt like an inescapable vortex.
you couldn't help but replay every interaction, every glance, and every word you'd ever exchanged with haechan. his mischievous smile, the way his eyes had locked onto yours, and the subtle chemistry that had ignited between you both during that stupid party – it all haunted your every waking moment.
you became more distracted, your laughter less spontaneous, and your conversations less engaging. it was as though you were there physically, but your thoughts were lost in the labyrinth of haechan's presence in your life. it was driving you to distraction, and you couldn't help but wonder if he was feeling the same way.
you found yourself picking up your phone far more often than usual, half-hoping for a message or call from him. the moments when your phone remained silent felt like a relentless reminder that you were treading water in a sea of uncertainty, with no clear direction in sight.
late at night, when sleep remained elusive, you'd find yourself scrolling through the messages and moments you'd shared with haechan. each interaction seemed to hold a hidden meaning, a puzzle you couldn't quite solve. you felt like you were losing yourself in the maze of emotions that you couldn't control.
it wasn't just the moments you'd shared; it was the possibility of what could be that gnawed at your soul. you were teetering on the precipice of a choice – whether to dive headfirst into this growing connection or to retreat, keeping your heart guarded. the pull toward haechan was undeniable, and you couldn't help but feel like a moth drawn to the flame, even if it meant getting burnt.
as the days turned into weeks, you couldn't escape the realization that you were being slowly swallowed by the thoughts of haechan. the lines between reality and fantasy blurred, and you weren't sure if this was a path you should continue to tread or one that would lead to an inevitable heartbreak. the only thing that was clear was that you couldn't escape the gravity of your emotions, and they were pulling you deeper into the enigma of haechan.
Tumblr media
the day you had been dreading for weeks had finally arrived. with a heavy heart and a sense of anticipation mixed with anxiety, you found yourself back at campus, ready to begin your second year of college. the thought of returning meant one thing above all else – you were finally going to see haechan again.
as you stepped onto the familiar campus grounds, you couldn't help but feel a whirlwind of emotions. it had been a long and restless winter and you had tried to move on, but he had remained a constant presence in your thoughts.
now, as you walked the familiar paths of your college campus, you couldn't help but wonder how things would unfold. would you fall back into the familiar pattern of rivalry and tension, or would there be something different, something unspoken that would hang in the air between you? you knew that the moment you saw haechan, the complexity of your emotions would resurface, and the uncertainty that had been looming over you would intensify.
the beginning of your second year of college marked the start of a new chapter, and you couldn't help but acknowledge that the enigmatic presence of haechan would be a significant part of it. as you approached your first class, you braced yourself for what was to come.
Tumblr media
like clockwork, chenle, renjun, and haechan arrived, one after another, sharing stories about their winter breaks. it was as if a familiar rhythm had returned to your life, and it was both comforting and unsettling.
renjun led the conversation, revealing that he had broken up with his girlfriend over the break. chenle chimed in next, excitedly recounting his overseas vacation.
then there was haechan, whose winter had been filled with parties and alcohol. you couldn't help but steal a few glances in his direction, even though you were trying your best to avoid him. the thought of locking eyes with haechan had you convinced that your cheeks would betray your feelings and turn a deep shade of red.
you busied yourself with your phone, pretending to be engrossed in some messages, all the while stealing the occasional covert glance in haechan's direction. his presence was magnetic, and you couldn't help but be drawn to him, even when you were doing your best to stay distant.
as the conversation continued, you realized that the dynamic between the four of you hadn't changed much, and yet everything felt different. the unspoken tension that lingered between you and haechan was palpable, even if it went unacknowledged.
Tumblr media
as you settled into your usual spot with your friends, the tension was palpable, hanging in the air like an unspoken secret. it was as if a fragile web of emotions connected you and haechan, and a single misstep could shatter it.
then, in one unexpected moment, you adjusted the strap of your backpack, and it happened. haechan's hand, almost instinctively, reached out to fix it for you. he didn't say a word, and the room fell into an uneasy silence as he carefully adjusted the strap, his fingers brushing against your shoulder.
it was a simple and subtle gesture, but it sent a shockwave of emotions through you. you couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth and longing as his fingers grazed your skin. a feeling of electricity surged through your body, and for a brief, heart-pounding moment, it felt like the rest of the world had faded away.
you both pulled away from each other as he completed the task, and you dared to look into his eyes, searching for any sign that he had felt the same connection. but his expression was unreadable, and you were left with an unsettled feeling, wondering if it was all in your head.
the silence between you and haechan stretched, and you were left with a flurry of thoughts and emotions that you struggled to make sense of. the complexity of your relationship seemed to have deepened in an instant, and you couldn't help but wonder what this simple, unspoken gesture meant for the future.

heartbreak is an enigma that never unfolds in a specific moment. it isn't a linear journey either. rather, you realize you've been heartbroken after a period of living through that emotional turmoil.
love, on the other hand, takes on numerous forms and arrives in various ways. you might not even notice you've been in love until it either slips through your fingers or you fully acknowledge its presence.
for y/n, love had always been somewhat of a mystery. most of her life was characterized by unrequited love, leaving her with the sense that love was a foreign concept. this realization had always carried an undercurrent of insecurity for her, and it was her biggest secret. in comparison to her friends like renjun and haechan, she often felt like she was lagging behind in the realm of love and relationships. her heart guarded by layers of caution and self-doubt. she had grown up on a steady diet of romance novels and romantic comedies, each one intensifying her longing for a love that had thus far eluded her. her closest brush with a real relationship had been with doyoung, a guy she met on tinder a couple of years ago. they had chatted for an entire year before finally meeting in person, and y/n had felt like it was her chance to experience all the romantic adventures she'd missed out on.
however, that potential romance was cut short when doyoung uttered the dreaded words, "i'm not ready for a relationship." after leading her on for a month, he made it clear that he didn't want anything more, leaving y/n feeling like she was once again left in the lurch. it was as if she had regressed into the realm of loneliness, her romantic inexperience a constant source of frustration.
and she was back to, a lonely virgin, again.
renjun… he had a girlfriend and was deeply committed to her. as he often mentioned, he was rarely single and had navigated the world of relationships with relative ease. with his easy charm and charisma, renjun seemed to find love effortlessly, a fact that often left y/n in awe and admiration.
haechan, on the other hand, was a different story. while he had never officially had a girlfriend, he was the epitome of a "fuckboy." he would regularly skip classes to meet up with girls, boasting about the number of girls he'd kissed, and touting his sexual conquests as if they were his greatest achievements. it was easy to label him as the typical bad boy who was allergic to commitment, but there was more to haechan than met the eye.
there was a time when haechan wasn't always like that. according to the stories he shared with renjun, there was a significant chapter in his life involving a family friend named winter. the way he talked about her suggested a deeper connection. winter wasn't ready for a serious relationship at the time, and neither was haechan, initially.
however, something shifted for him, and he wanted more. unfortunately, winter didn't reciprocate his feelings. this disconnect led to clashes and ultimately drove them apart. winter's rejection left haechan deeply affected, and he gradually adopted the persona of a traumatized "fuckboy-wannabe." even as he pursued numerous other girls, haechan couldn't help but reflect on the impact winter had on him and how their complex relationship had left a lasting mark on his approach to love and relationships.
all while also trying to get with every girl in sight. which would eventually also include you.
haechan's transformation to someone who wore the mask of indifference intrigued y/n. she often wondered about the untold moments and heartaches that led to this drastic change. could she learn something from his story, or would it simply reinforce her belief that love was a complicated and elusive entity?

back in high school you had your fair share of underage drinking, making your way through countless parties and often waking up with a throbbing headache. those were the days when you didn't care about school, and your high school life was a volatile mess. smoking and getting drunk on fridays became somewhat of a ritual, a way to drown out the disappointment of not getting into that prestigious high school you had always dreamed of.
but that was then, and college was supposed to be a fresh start. it was meant to be a place where you could focus on your studies, put the past behind you, and prove to everyone, especially yourself, that you had changed.
so when you crossed paths with haechan at your college, it was like a blast from the past. he was everything you had once rebelled against: the overconfident, charming, and carefree guy who excelled at everything he did. his cocky attitude was a constant reminder of the reckless teenager you used to be, and it didn't sit well with your newfound determination to be different. you see, you didn't come to hate haechan just because. it wasn't solely due to the debates or the petty fights. you hated him because he was too good at everything.
as you observed haechan's achievements, whether in academics or other aspects of college life, it served as a constant, nagging reminder of the person you used to be. it was as if he had everything you had ever wanted but couldn't achieve because of your past mistakes. you had made many mental notes about every. single. thing. you hated about him. heck, the list reached a point where it went from mental to an actual list in your notes app. and all because after the fight in the library you had drifted apart for good (not that you were ever close, anyway) and yes, orbited around each other because of renjun, but nothing more. and that was OKAY because in the end, haechan and y/n always meant trouble.
it was for the better, and you were more focused, and less angry all the time, and and and it was fine, okay? it was fine.
Tumblr media
first semester ended as haechan-less as it was possible. and so did the first half of the second one. strictly keeping everything professional, and with chenle now in the group, you could sit miles away and no one would be left alone.
until everything started to go south when chenle decided to take you all to that stupid bar.
for context, half of second semester was online, and after the holidays you wouldn't see each other for a while. that's why you and renjun finally agreed to go with them.
the only one with a car was chenle, but the bar was close to haechan's brother apartment and renjun's house.
so, here was the plan:
everyone would pack their things and drive there in chenle's car. but because chenle was going to leave earlier, all of the stuff would be left in Johnny's apartment. nice plan, with absolutely nothing that could go wrong.
as you stepped into johnny's apartment for the first time, you couldn't help but be struck by the stark difference between him and his brother, haechan. johnny was everything that haechan wasn't, and you couldn't help but marvel at it.
johnny's tall, imposing figure stood out in the room, and his good looks were immediately noticeable. his classic, chiseled features made him the kind of person you'd expect to see on magazine covers. he had an undeniable charm that was impossible to ignore, a stark contrast to haechan's cheeky demeanor.
the moment johnny started cracking jokes and making witty remarks, the atmosphere in the room shifted. his humor was a breath of fresh air, never hurtful or biting, in stark contrast to haechan's more acerbic wit. the laughter that johnny's jokes elicited created an infectious positive vibe, making everyone in the room feel instantly at ease.
Tumblr media
the thing about the bar was that it was far from special; it was just another ill-fated bar filled with eager and intoxicated college students. the music was deafening, the dim lights cast a hazy glow over the chaotic scene, and it felt like you were in the midst of a never-ending party. in every corner, there were people locked in passionate embraces, making out as if their lives depended on it.
despite being surrounded by your friends, you couldn't help but feel like an outsider in that wild atmosphere. it wasn't your scene anymore, the throbbing bass and the scent of alcohol in the air only served to remind you of why you had tried to leave your rebellious days behind.
however, what stood out the most was haechan's behavior. unlike the rest of the college students at the bar, he wasn't engaging in the reckless and passionate make-out sessions that seemed to be the main attraction. instead, he stood off to the side, nursing a drink and watching the chaotic scene with an unreadable expression.
it was odd to see haechan in such a situation, not actively seeking out someone to flirt with or making out with anyone. he seemed detached, as if the environment held no appeal for him that night. you couldn't help but wonder about the reasons behind his unusual behavior, but you hesitated to approach him. the last thing you wanted was to stir up more trouble, especially in a place where the lines between friends and something more were already blurred.
as the night wore on, the contrast between the rowdy bar scene and the uneasy detachment of your group became increasingly apparent.
no one wanted to leave until chenle did, just cause you didn't want to seem men to him, so when he announced he was leaving everyone felt a sudden relief.
it was just you, renjun, and haechan. just the way you liked it. as you arrive at johnny's house, renjun, feels the urgency to use the restroom, excuses himself and rushes to find the bathroom, leaving you and haechan alone in the living room. the two of you are in a somewhat awkward silence, with the sound of the distant party still echoing in the background.
you had drank a bit, nothing much really. but the lack of alcohol in your system for the past year and a half, made your tolerance reaally decrease, so you were not drunk, but definitively a little trippy.
trippy enough to let your guard down in front of haechan.
as you sat down in johnny's couch, haechan laid next to you, keeping a considerating amount of space between you. the silence was awkward and the air was hot.
haechan stared at your side for a moment until he finally decided to speak to you in what was months — you? drinking? now, that's a surprise.
you couldn't help but laugh at the feeling of your flushed cheeks, a sign of your mild tipsiness.
oh stop it, it's not like i'm drunk or anything like that — you placed your hands in your cheeks just to further prove your next point — it's just, my cheeks get really hot when i drink...
haechan, emboldened by the playful banter, reaches out and lightly places his hands on your cheeks, his fingers brushing against your skin. their faces are dangerously close, and there's a palpable tension in the air.
as your faces remain dangerously close. both of you know that this is a delicate line to tread, given your ongoing rivalry and mutual disdain.
haechan whispered, his voice a bit softer than you've ever heard before — you know, y/n, it's almost like you're a different person when you've had a little to drink.
you chuckled, trying to maintain composure — oh?, am i not allowed to let loose once in a while?
haechan's gaze drifts down to your lips, a subtle hint of desire in his eyes, but he quickly averts his gaze, breaking the proximity.
you can do whatever you want, but don't expect me to go easy on you. — he smirked.
you feel a mixture of frustration and attraction as haechan danced on the line between flirting and confrontation. it's a dangerous game, and you aren't sure whether to engage or resist. so you decided to tease.
—you're just afraid that you can't keep up with me.
haechan leans even closer, your faces inches apart once again. it's a game of brinkmanship, a push and pull that neither of you is willing to lose; whispering, his breath warm against your lips he retorted —maybe it's you who can't keep up, y/n.
with that, haechan unexpectedly pulls away, leaving you breathless and slightly dazed. the tension hangs in the air as both of you wrestle with your feelings, your complex dynamic, and the unspoken attraction that neither of you is ready to fully acknowledge. the room remains silent, save for the distant sounds of the party, and the boundaries between you continue to blur.
haechan's sudden pull away from you is a stark reminder of the enmity between you two, and the tension in the room becomes a chilling silence. it's as though you've been thrust back into the familiar territory of your rivalry.
with a forced, tense smile you finally spoke — you always have to ruin a good moment, don't you, haechan?
haechan returning to his usual smug demeanor was also not going to let go on saying the last word — ruin your fun? that's what i do best, y/n.
the boundaries you had briefly blurred snap back into place as you both retreat to your respective corners, both unwilling to let down your guard. the playful flirtation has given way to the underlying animosity that has defined your relationship, and you're back to being enemies once more.
renjun returns from the bathroom, blissfully unaware of the charged atmosphere he has walked into. the party rages on in the distance, but in johnny's living room, the battle lines between haechan and you have been firmly reestablished, and the status quo of your complex dynamic remains intact.
Tumblr media
as renjun parted ways, you found yourself alone with haechan at the bus stop, the silence between you growing more pronounced. both of you pretended as if nothing had happened during the night, but the nervous energy that lingered just beneath the surface suggested otherwise. the atmosphere was thick with unspoken words, and you couldn't help but wonder if he might be feeling as uneasy as you were.
your knees brushed against each other as you sat side by side, the physical contact further heightening the tension between you. the occasional glances you exchanged spoke volumes, even though neither of you said a word.
as time passed, the effects of your tipsiness began to wear off, and you couldn't help but notice that haechan appeared to be more intoxicated than you initially thought. it suddenly dawned on you that his earlier behavior, aka. the borderline flirting, might have been a result of the alcohol.
it was a revelation that cast a new light on the night's events. haechan, despite his bravado, was not immune to the effects of alcohol, and perhaps that explained the uncharacteristic moments of connection and closeness that had transpired during the night.
the good thing was, you wouldn't see him for the next 2 months, things would calm down, eventually. and when you went back, none of you would remember.
right?

on a chilly autumn evening, the library was the spot for a silent but intense standoff between you and haechan as you tried to study for your looming midterm exam. the library's vibe was peaceful, filled with the subtle rustling of pages and the occasional whispered conversations.
discontentment had been building within you, making you irritable. your hair was unruly, your clothes felt uncomfortable, and even the sound of haechan's breathing was enough to make your blood boil.
haechan, could you please keep your music down? i'm trying to focus here—you whispered, irritation evident.
haechan was not in the best of moods either, whether due to your presence or his ongoing struggle with a particularly vexing problem. he shot back — what's your problem, y/n? i can't study in complete silence. and don't tell me you've never heard of headphones.
you continued in a hushed tone
—haechan, i don't mind if you listen to music, but your taste is atrocious, and it's loud enough for the entire library to hear. have some consideration for others.
haechan's patience was wearing thin, and your talent for getting under his skin was apparent. — my taste is atrocious? that's rich coming from someone who probably listens to elevator music and taylor swift.
—you know, haechan, elevator music is more sophisticated than whatever noise you're playing. this is a library, not your personal concert hall. besides, dude, what does taylor has to do with any of this?
a smirk played on haechan's lips as he added with a hint of sarcasm —oh, i'm sorry, i didn't realize you owned the place. maybe you should run for library monitor of the year, y/n.
the tension in the library escalated, and with renjun nowhere in sight to mediate, you raised your voice at him.
—that's not the point, haechan! the point is, you're being disruptive, and it's making it impossible for me to study. you're impossible, haechan! this is why i can't stand you. you're always so inconsiderate and arrogant!
haechan, not one to back down from a challenge, responded with equal fervor— and you're so uptight and bossy! you act like you own the place.
the library's hushed atmosphere had been disturbed by the verbal showdown between you and haechan. your personalities clashed like two storms, temporarily sidelining your study session and adding a touch of drama to an otherwise quiet, book-filled setting.
when renjun finally made his entrance into the library, it was like a scene straight out of a cartoon. you know, the kind where the hero comes in to save the day. and believe me, you needed some saving.
he just strolled in like he owned the place, as if he hadn't noticed the boiling tension that was about to reach its climax between you and haechan.
but here's the thing, renjun might have looked chill on the outside, but you could see it in his eyes - he knew something was up. he took a quick scan of the room, and his gaze landed on you, locked in a fiery verbal duel with haechan. it was like he had walked into the lion's den, and boy, did he always have a front-row seat to the show.
now, you've got to understand, the library was supposed to be this sanctuary of silence and concentration. but with you and haechan going at it, it felt more like a battlefield. your voices clashed with the hushed whispers of the other students, and the tension was so thick you could practically cut it with a knife.
renjun broke the silence. — hey, what's going on, guys? — he asked, his eyes bouncing back and forth between you and haechan. it was like he had a sixth sense for detecting conflict when it came to you and decided to intervene before things got out of hand.
you were the first to spill the beans.— haechan and i were just, you know, having a disagreement about his music. it's just too loud, and he doesn't seem to care.
haechan's face shifted from annoyed to more neutral as he responded — yeah, and y/n here thinks she's the queen of the library, telling everyone what to do.
it was like renjun had waved a magic wand or something because suddenly, the argument cooled down. haechan reluctantly agreed to turn down the music, and you gave a little nod, agreeing to wear headphones. renjun had brought some much-needed zen into the room.
with the music at a more tolerable level, renjun took a seat at your table, and you got back to studying. the library got back to being quiet, just the usual soft sounds of flipping pages and whispers.
Tumblr media
in the days following your heated argument in the library, you couldn't help but stew over your frustration with haechan. the clash over something as seemingly trivial as his music had escalated into a bitter argument that had left you seething. it was a constant reminder of your conflicting personalities and how much you disliked haechan's behavior.
as you sat in a quiet corner of the campus courtyard, you couldn't hold back your feelings any longer.
renjun — you began, a note of exasperation in your voice—i've been thinking about our little trio with haechan. to be honest, i don't understand why we even hang out with him. i mean, he's impossible. i don't even consider him a friend, and... i think i might even hate his stupid guts.
renjun looked at you with a mixture of surprise and concern.
—hate is a strong word, y/n. why do you feel this way?
you leaned in, frustration evident.
— it's not just that one library incident. it's everything about him. it's the debates, it's the constant need to comment on everything i do or don't do. he's so inconsiderate and arrogant. he's constantly pushing my buttons, and I can't stand it. I thought college would be a fresh start, a chance to meet people who are different, but I never expected someone like haechan.
—i get it, y/n. haechan can be a handful, and he's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. but, he has his good sides too, you know?
Tumblr media
haechan's expression hardened at renjun's sudden interest in the topic—hate, huh? well, i can't say i'm a big fan of her either.
renjun was taken aback by haechan's response.
—what do you mean, you're not a fan of her?
haechan sighed, leaning back in his chair.
—i don't know, renjun. there's just something about her that really pisses me off. she's so uptight and bossy. it's like she thinks she owns the place. i don't doubt that she's a good friend to you. but I can't stand the way she tries to control everything and act like she's better than everyone else. it's like she's always looking for reasons to argue with me.
now that you and haechan knew how much you hated each other, things seemed to cool down a bit. you didn't want anything to do with him an neither did you. at least the rest of your first semester was a little bit calmer. yes, you did hang out with each other, but never exchanged words, or looks, or anything at all.
you were now, simply, classmates.
Tumblr media
at the beginning of the second semester, haechan would be assigned a new roommate, chenle. it was safe to say that you were initially skeptical about how this would pan out.
the three of you already knew chenle because he was in some of your previous classes. you'd exchanged several conversations and were no strangers to one another. that's why you couldn't help but wonder if their personalities would clash, much like yours and haechan's had in the past.
but, over time, something surprising happened. you noticed that haechan and chenle began to bond over shared interests. and they even shared their experiences going to the same stupid high school.
surprised by the seemingly quick development of their friendship, you and renjun decided to give it a chance. and slowly but surely, chenle was almost all the time with the both you.
chenle had a naturally partying persona. he would always brag about this bar near campus, insistin that the four of you should go. and most of the time he would end up convincing haechan, but never renjun or you.
however that would change now that the school was closing down for winter vacations and everyone had to go home for the holidays.
