– PAIGE CRACKS UP AT CHAI’S PERFORMANCE AND IT’S HONESTLY A WONDER that they haven’t attracted more attention but that’s what you get for dipping into a sex shop at an odd hour in a bad part of town – an adventure. “ i like to think i do too ! ” she laughs, watching chai handcuff her own wrists and she figures she might as well follow suit, selecting a pair of nipple clamps with fluffy pom-poms on the ends and pinning them in her hair like they’re barrettes. very trendy. she winks at herself in the mirror for good measure. “ ew, alright, you made it sound gross. but i guess if they weren’t, they’d probably melt off too easily ? like, when you were getting all sweaty in ‘em they’d just dissolve. ” although the idea of the panties being CHEWY and eating something fabric-textured makes paige wrinkle her nose. most people would balk at the ridiculousness of today, or drag paige out before she could cause too much damage, but chai encourages it, lighting a spark of excitement that charges through her, matching chai’s smile with an affirming grin. “ i’m just thinking of the people, ” she tries to straighten her facial expression, nodding solemnly, “ may god save their wretched souls. only he can judge them now. ” the way her mom would smack her for saying that ! “ true, we can’t get banned for this place so that i can be a nun this halloween. you can be my sexy pope, ” she suggests, only making it worse. she steps onto chai’s hands at her suggestion, realizing the urgency to act quickly, “ it’ll be FINE, it’s a victimless crime, ” she says in a loud whisper, reaching up toward the display case. 

╯ 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐬 translates into what chai can only imagine would be the feeling of uncomfortable stickiness, her nose scrunching up in disgust. “ yeah, i think we just ruined edible underwear. what else should we critique ? ” it’s like her lips were permanently curled when in paige’s presence, her head titling back slightly in the midst of her laughter. “ a sexy pope ? did anyone besides rihanna pull that one off ? “ she questions, her eyes lighting up at the sight of red latex, pulling on the fabric. “ i know, — you’ll be a sexy nun, and i’ll be the sexy devil that’s trying to corrupt you. it’ll be so american horror story. ” 

as she tries to hold paige in place, chai’s struggles’ clearly amount to how out of shape she is. “ can you reach it ? ” she attempts to look up, only to no avail. their figures are wobbling together, chai placing paige’s feet on her shoulders, holding on to her legs. if only there were cameras to capture this. as if the situation couldn’t get anymore uncertain, the other girl’s words are like a light-bulb going in chai’s mind, fueled not on electricity, but mischief. “ i mean, i think we’ve only committed one crime that involved victims ... or is hostage the right word ? ” she plants the seed with the expectation that paige already knows where this is going, and it wouldn’t surprise her that when the following words left her mouth, it’d be in unison. “ when — when we, we held the — the koala ! ” she manages to get out between escaped laughs, pressing her lips together to contain any other slips. although most of that night had been a blur, the retelling’s of this story around town always added something preposterous to the story, like that they ended up in the tiger pen, as if they didn’t know it’s dangerous to let those kind of ideas live in their minds ? one thing was for sure, chai distinctly remembers the tears that streamed down her face when they were separated from the small critter, therefore, she had an idea of her intoxication levels, too.

– PAIGE CAN’T HELP IT, SHE BURSTS OUT IN LAUGHTER as chai performs her makeshift song. “ wait, hold on…that was kind of HOT, ” paige declares with widened eyes, “ like, no joke, that had a pretty good ring to it ? did you come up with that on the spot, for real ? ” she asks. “ i hope i get the chance, maybe i should actually save these. ” though really, she IS curious about the taste. can you eat your own underwear ? she follows chai’s line of sight as they walk through the store, looking for DEFLATED blow-up dolls, “ i dunno, i prefer the challenge of trying to escape with an inflated one, ” paige decides, “ can you reach the display ? ” even on her toes, it’ll be a struggle, but unfortunately chai isn’t much taller than she is.  “ nah, i think it’s mostly for when you get OLD, and like, you have to spice up your sex life ‘cause you’ve been doing the same thing with the same person for…twenty years or whatever, ” paige grimaces, thinking it sounds like a fate worse than death to her. “ nun thing is freaky, though, i’m kind of into it ? ” she does a half-assed hail mary as she looks up at the ceiling, which probably makes her statement even more offensive instead of less. 

╯ 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐬𝐲, suddenly reminded of the costume she’s wearing, the mental image of how she probably looks, with all the looted accessories, it all adds to her increasing laughter. “ thank you, thank you, i’ll be here all night. ” her tone is playful, nodding at paige’s question, “ well, yeah. i think you bring out the best in me. ” simultaneously, she’s unlocking the fluffy handcuffs to cuff them to one of her own wrists, like its some bracelet. her reasons for this remain unknown. “ do you think they’re super chewy ? i think they should be, like you gotta make them work to get them off. ” the thought of someone gnawing at her edible underwear sends her spiraling. “ true, i respect that. ” as per usual, she’s in total agreement with paige, immediately glancing around, her concentration visible as she conjures some makeshift plan. her gaze follows paige’s actions, pausing in shock, not once at the inappropriateness, but how perhaps they’re twin flames. her features even grow soft. “ was that for all the poor souls, doing missionary for twenty years straight ? sister paige, you’re such a kind soul. ” she takes the other’s side, one hand on the blonde’s back and the other over her heart, in mourning, as usual, it all ends with a snort. “ honestly, you’d look so hot in it. we gotta keep in the clear after this, so we can come here looking for halloween costumes. ” the sound of beaded curtains swaying is all she needs to hear, a perfect opportunity presenting itself, the cashier was nowhere to be seen. probably on a bathroom break. before she knows it, chai is crouching, looking up to paige. “ we gotta do it now, i’ll boost you ! ” it’s an exclaimed whisper, her hands in position to boost paige up to reach the blowup doll display. “ worst case scenario, at least we get a quiet cellmate out of this. ”

and now that the alcohol had been handed out, it seemed like the other girl had so much to say. sure, sofia wasn’t going out of her way to hug the girl and protect her, but she was literally the politest she could have been in the given situation. with the glass sitting in front of her as chai continued to go on about her actions, barely able to listen anymore, she brought the glass to her lips and downed the double within seconds. chasing it with the sprite, she ordered herself another one as she tried to gather her thoughts. it wasn’t like she could avoid her, they were literally friends with the exact same group, it was like she couldn’t escape her. “obviously i’m trying,” she tried not to laugh out, was she serious? sofia had always been cordial, though her mere presence annoyed her, never spoke ill towards her to their friends, etc. to her, chai just didn’t exist and that’s the way she liked it. no negative energy surrounding her, nothing. “well then say something else than, i can leave, or you don’t have to do that. you’re pushing this more and more into a mistake of not just letting you veer off from me at the end of the block.” taking a sip from her next double shot, “i’m playing nice, chill.”

╯ 𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫, chai dismisses the bartender for another with a sympathetic smile. there were so many questions left answered, and with her attempts dismissed, she settled that maybe it was supposed to be that way; it’ll be best to keep drunk honesty far away from this conversation. it’s easy to catch onto her words flying right over sofia’s head, chai knowing all to well what it’s like to be ignored and not listened to; frankly, being treated as invisible was something that made her blood boil, she had to fight the urge to get up right then and there and walk away, but whether they liked each other or not she said she’d try, so here she is. “ okay. ” she shrugs, leaving it at that, instead of trying to justify herself, would be for the best, she thinks. “ what do you suggest we talk about, instead ? or do we just sulk and drink ? ”

“ damn, there was no need to call my bluff like that. ” luca couldn’t deny it, she knew chai was right. “ in theory, that’s a great idea. but try telling drunk me that after someone breaks out the tequila. ” she shook her head, knowing it was likely that she’ll end up in this exact situation again next weekend, just how she has multiple times before. “ raw eggs ?? even just the thought of that is making my stomach turn, how can anyone handle that, even without the raging hangover ? i just don’t understand. ” luca lifted her shoulders in a gentle shrug. “ i took some aspirin, now i’m just waiting patiently for it start working. ” 

╯ “ 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥, 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐧𝐞. ” chai admits with a sincere smile tugging at her lips, knowing luca’s pain all too well. “ i guess they’re just that desperate. i’ve never downed a raw egg like a shot, but the yolk is pretty good with rice. except, the rice needs to be super hot so it cooks it a little, so i guess it’s not exactly raw. — i don’t know the logistics, i just eat it. ” she shrugs, taking the diner’s menu in her hands, scanning it for ideas. “ my holy grail for curing hangovers has to be coffee with a little lemon juice in it. it tastes nothing less of disgusting, and it might even be a placebo effect, but i swear it works. ”

“I think you should just go for it. I have two cats in my house and they’re honestly the best thing that’s ever happened to me. What kind of pet you are you thinking? Cat? Dog? Bunny? I’ve always wanted a bunny…,” He trailed, shrugging a little as he thought about all the times he had begged his parents as a kid for more pets. However, he was quite content with his two little girls. When she returns, his lips stretch into a soft smile towards her. He raises an eyebrow at her hands to her eyes. “I’m pretty sure I do…yeah,” He chuckles softly in amusement. “You look beautiful with or without makeup, Chai,” He makes sure to let her know. Something that Nate always insisted about Chai from the beginning and throughout of their relationship was that she was so effortlessly beautiful. He pushes himself up off the couch to follow her into the kitchen, leaning gently back against the counter. “I’m the guest. I don’t mind whatsoever. Whatever you’re in the mood for, I’ll eat. I can literally eat anything,” He assured with a soft laugh, nodding along with his words. “Sweet popcorn sounds good to me,” He tells her, his arms crossing over his chest as he turns to face her properly. “Something dumb like the nun she says,” He snorts. “Is that not supposed to be real scary? Yikes. You’re really something else,” He licks over his lips briefly. “As long as you promise to protect me, I can watch anything,”

 ╯ 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 makes her heart flutter, the sensation sending an instant curl to her lips. “ they sound like absolute angels, what are their names ? — that’s the thing, i can’t make up my mind ... i was leaning towards a ferret, then a snake, or maybe a kitten. and now that you mention it, a bunny would be nice, too ... well, i’ll just add it to the list. ” she admits, with a shrug. growing up, chai had an endless dispute with responsibility, warning off any ideas of owning and caring for something other than herself. her views have gone through a 180 ever since, so getting a pet would be symbolical, to say the least. at his words, the curve on her lips grew up to her eyes, taking a genuine softness to them. she’s reminded of all the times nate made her feel at ease over the years, his reassurances aiding her into learning to stop refuting compliments, and ignore how loud her insecurities could be at times. “ okay, let’s do popcorn first, and if we’re still hungry after, i’ll make us something. ” she nods in agreement, placing both popcorn packets in the microwave side by side, timing it and leaning against the counter beside it. amused, she couldn’t help snorting before playfully sticking her tongue at him. “ that movie’s a holy mess. it’s funny ! ” she protests, laughter between her words. “ you know what, let’s do pennywise. the plot is crazy good and some of the jump scares are kind of predictable. ” popping the bags open, she manages to fit all the popcorn in one bowl. a sense of relief as she didn’t burn a single one, excitedly holding it out for nate to take a few. “ i mean, have you seen these guns ? ” she points to her skinny arm, it’s not even toned. “ no one’s messing with you. especially not some demonic clown.  — tell you what, i’ll give your hand a squeeze before the jump scares, i remember most of them. ” her features break into a grin, leading nate into her bedroom. it was cluttered with movie and music memorabilia, but still tidy. “ i set up the projector in here. ” she explains, gesturing towards the only white wall in the room, the surrounding ones covered in movie posters, all of the titles were cult classics: ghost busters, blade runner, scarface, tarantino movies, you name it. her favorite electric guitars were displayed, too. it was all quite the collection. the projector beamed opposite her bed, which with all those pillows, resembled a large couch. she plops on it, scrolling through her phone. “ it connects to my phone, it’s pretty cool. ” she adds, fiddling with both gadgets alike until the the title scene is displayed, the speakers sitting on her nightstand playing the sinister opening music; which made chai giddy as she pulled the covers over both of them; she really loved a good movie. “ you ready ? ”
