“More appropriate than wearing all black. Apparently celebrating the death of your social life at a family event is frowned upon.” He looked over at the beautiful woman, only allowing his eyes to wander down for a moment. “For what it is worth, you look gorgeous in the dress.”
Tumblr media
“All Saints celebration at the palace.  Do you think a thigh split would be considered inappropriate?”  Tru muttered to no one in particular as she pulled out the navy dress with a split right up the side.

Thomas grinned. “I don’t know how I managed the hair,” he answered with a grin. Looking over at the burger, Thomas raised a brow. “Is that just a patty and a bun? Who the hell eats a burger like that?” He teased easily. Thaddeus was already perked at the scent of the food, but he didn’t move at all. He wouldn’t move toward it without Thomas’ go ahead. Instead, he was focused on checking the perimeter for his owner before coming to sit by Thomas.
“When was the last time you saw me? Before I went to war, right?”
“Still hate you for it. Do you know how hard it is getting gray to blend with red?” He chuckled, shaking his head. “The burger is for your adorable dog. You should have better manners than to think that I wouldn’t get him something for having to put up with you the whole time.” He winked at his cousin, letting him know that he was only joking. “The nachos and beer are for us. Figured the fried food would have us throwing the balls all over the place. Ain’t no one who ever wants balls in their face.”
Letting out a breath, Freddie searched his memory. They were barely adults when they last saw one another. “It had to be. I think you were seventeen when I left. I can’t say that it was a surprise that you did the noble thing.”

Freddie already sprang for a couple of beers, nachos, and a burger minus everything except the meat. It had been so long since he had last seen his cousin or even spoken to him. The family hero had gone off to save lives while Freddie had gone to Denmark to do his own thing. Truth be told he had missed life in Verona- not the responsibilities of being a Capulet but the time with his family.
Grinning he made his way towards Thomas, dumping the beers and food on the small table before embracing the other man. “Jesus I don’t remember you being this tall.” He chuckled, taking a step back to look over him. “And not a single gray hair yet. I hate you.”
Bowling || Thomas and Freddie
@freddie-capulet
Thomas was excited to spend time with Freddie, honestly. The other had been in Copenhagan so long that Thomas had very nearly forgotten how fun it was to banter with him. And to bowl like when they were kids. It was a good way to just keep things fun and easy, even if they were both very different men now.
He had just managed to explain to the manager of the alley that Thaddeus was a service dog when he caught sight of a familiar redhead and raised his arm to get the other’s attention. “Over here, Freddie,” he called out.

She looked him over. “I think you were likely a hot dad,” she answered, allowing that. They weren’t compatible, given his averse reaction to pain, but he was still good looking. She could say that much. “As for being embarrassing… I actually like hearing parents talk about their kids.” She never talked about hers, so it was an experience she wasn’t familiar with.
His job? He was a professor, not a health inspector. His response to her business was what it was, but really, he should back off. “We use sterile needles. Guns are unsanitary. We also use regulation surgical equipment.”
“Thank you. Unfortunately Sofia’s dad doesn’t have the same ring as Stacy’s mom. So I was out on that account.” He chuckled. Even if he wasn’t into the same things as Calpurnia, he still was enjoying her company. Perhaps they could even meet up again sometime. “Really? No one likes hearing me talk about how I knew my kid would be a writer from the day that she came home with her first poem about the snail that lived on the dog’s tail.”
“Not questioning that, but it’s nice to know that guns are bad.” He cleared his throat. “I was actually thinking of getting my ear pierced. Very adventurous I know. I just figured that guns were quicker.”

Megan laughed out loud as he claimed to be insulted by her. “I will keep in mind that you are usually an angel, although after what you did I am more inclined to believe it,” she smiled as her laughter eased.
Sighing softly at the question she lay back, staring up at the ceiling for a moment.  “There was just always something in our way.  We rushed into a claim to satisfy the first part of the decree and I guess we just had never really got the chance to really understand each other.  There was the decree, his position, my position, members of his family, of our family just all against us and then….well I don’t know, so many of our problems were nothing to do with us.  I love him for him, not his money or his title but in the end it wasn’t enough.”  Tears welled along her lashes for a moment but she was able to contain herself for once.  “We are going on an actual vacation.  Since neither of us are seeing anyone right now and we both really needed a break we decided to go together.  It should be a lot of fun.”
The fact that Meg thought so highly of him was slightly disconcerting. Finding her and ensuring that she was taken to the hospital was nothing special. Sure he helped her when she couldn’t help herself, but that was something that anyone would have done.
While on the other side of the continent, Freddie heard of the infamous decree. Thankfully he had been far away from the mess, but his heart went out to his family. Between the time limit and the participants, Freddie found it difficult to believe that anyone could find their true match. Everything had to have been so rushed. “Then you didn’t do anything wrong. You loved him. It was the wrong time and wrong circumstances. You deserve to be wooed by someone and taken on romantic dates.” He shook his head. Everyone deserved to find love, it was just so damned hard to find it. “Did he love you?” He was curious to know. Freddie smiled at the mention of the vacation. “It will be. Do me a favor. Take Thomas to one of those fancy tea parlors. I want a photo of him with the dainty cups too look at on bad days.”

“Point proven.” She also had a feeling it would depend ont he middle aged man in question, but as she had no desire to see her cousin like that, it came out the same. “Not really? Lord Tybalt is keeping us all hopping. And since he’s the only reason I could actually work in Verona, I’m not complaining. You better get used to it.”
Tumblr media
Freddie bowed before Mel. “Thank you. I know that I could do it.” Although if the weather was a bit warmer, Freddie might have been tempted to go shirtless in the park just to rebel a bit against the stuffiness of reputation. “I would imagine nothing less from the lord. And don’t say that. You are a smart kid, Mel. Lord Ty just opened the door for you.”

“Eighteen? My, you must have had her young. What’s her name?” He didn’t have to tell her, she supposed, but it was just making conversation.
Rolling her eyes she looked at him. “I have a license for surgical procedures like that and Sinner’s Prayer–my shop–literally has awards for cleanliness. No need for the lecture, professor.”
“I was. And no closer to being the cool dad because of the age. Although I like to think that I was the hot dad.” He chuckled, winking at the younger woman. “Her name is Sofia, and you probably don’t want to ask questions. I tend to go into proud dad mode. It is #supsembarrassing.”
He placed his hands up in surrender. “Just doing my job.” It wasn’t that he was about to lecture anyone. What they wanted to do with their bodies was their own business. Freddie simply tended to be extra cautious. “Do you have regular piercing equipment at Sinner’s Prayer?”

“Do you really think so?” It made sense that the children wouldn’t be bothered - or shouldn’t be bothered, but that didn’t make her concerns diminish immediately. “And aren’t I? I almost spilled wine all over this gorgeous dress and about seven people have asked me what’s wrong so clearly I’m not hiding it.”
Tumblr media
“Only a monster would go after innocent children. We are more in danger here than the kids are.” Even if what he said was true, Freddie doubted that Gabi’s mind would ever fully be at ease. The first time was always the hardest. “You are a mom worried about her daughter. Most people here understand that feeling. You haven’t ruined anything, but if it would help, I can take you for a spin on the floor. Try to keep your mind busy.”

“Oh yes?” She asked him. “How old is she?” Mikey wasn’t too old, really. Surely still a child. But she wasn’t really his mother, was she? That’d be her aunt. Still, she could see how proud the other looked when he talked of his daughter.
“Well, yes,” she answered. “It’s surgery. We don’t do it in a back alley.”
“Eighteen, but I still see her as my little girl.” Freddie always would see Sofia as his baby. It hurt him the first time that she brought someone home. He wanted to protect her from the world, but he had to let him go. Being half way across the content helped a bit.
“Good. If you did, I would have to give you a long lecture on proper hygiene for operations. It is a long and boring lecture that puts people to sleep.”

One eyebrow arched in surprise at the response, sure how he had no idea with whom he spoke. “Well look at you being social getting out there then… And unfortunately, yes,” he answered nodding over to the side where a woman in a victorian gown with a fake vampire bite on her neck hung off a man’s frame. “Apparently I wasn’t what she hoped, but the guy over there is.”
“Family obligation.” He shrugged his shoulders. If he hadn’t made it, he doubted that anyone truly would have known. Everyone here was in mask. Freddie followed the man’s gaze, frowning when he saw the woman. Clearly there was no mistaken identity with the difference in the costumes. “Probably attracted to shiny things. She’s doing you a favor by not boring you to death with vapid small talk.”

[text] Sof took a trip to Switzerland. I had her send me back some of the chocolate you like. But if you want the pony to be your gift, I can eat all the chocolate.
Text: You are welcome to come over for a play date any time, cousin. Ponies should be shared.
[text] I’d love to as long as I don’t end up the one Capulet riding a donkey when the rest of you are on horses. George never could keep up with your stallion.
[text] Or is this your way of saying that I should bring your real gift over before you hurl a pink pony plush at me?

“Again?” she echoed.  “Is this a habit of yours?” she added with a grin, finding it hard to imagine why Freddie would be thrown out  of the hospital.
Megan gave a soft laugh and shrugged, “I don’t know what I’ve done.  I mean I’m not exactly an angel but I didn’t think I had ever done something that bad….except maybe fall in love with the wrong person.”  Freddie hadn’t been here and seen the mess she had been in.  Perhaps in some ways it would have been better if he could remember her as the sixteen years old she had been when he left, then perhaps she would have someone that she didn’t seem like such a total failure to.  “I’ll start researching although Thomas and I are off to London for a few days soon so spa weekends might have to wait until I have more funds available.”
“Not usually. I am insulted that you would think that way. I happen to be an angel for the most part.” Really it was just the rules that could be a bit too strict. It was not as if Freddie didn’t know the proper procedures for what went on in the hospital. He didn’t take some sick, stray dog in. It was an animal from a shelter that was well behaved with all her shots. Still he supposed forgiveness before approval didn’t always apply.
Freddie sighed. “If being with the wrong person were a crime, we would all be guilty of it at some point. The heart doesn’t always think things through. The brain either, but that is a completely different case.” He shook his head. “But why was he the wrong guy, if you don’t mind my asking? If you do, we don’t have to talk. I just figure that there was something there that made you want to be in the claim.” Freddie had his own failed claim behind him, but that was hardly a mistake for him. “London is fun when it doesn’t rain. Is it some conference or an actual vacation?”

Mel did roll her eyes at that one. It was either the most random of segues or a direct response to her ‘nothing’. Either way, it was exactly the sort of comment designed to make sure she didn’t say anything else. “I don’t see you dancing naked in any parks to rebel against it. But yeah, I’m around. I work at the Estate even if I won’t always live there so I’m easy to find if you come around once in awhile.”
Tumblr media
“Pretty sure that if I did that, I’d get arrested. No one wants to see a middle aged man take off his clothing and go dancing in the park.” He chuckled, glad that Mel hadn’t been around to see him in his wilder days. Streaking was tame compared to some of this other drunken shenanigans. He groaned hearing where she worked. “Is anyone not at the Estate at some point? That place is the worst.”

[text] So they say.
[text] Is that right? You sure that you’re not hearing dogs howling because of that note? Usually it’s me with the groupies, or at least it used to be.
[text] Do you really want to know?
[text] I know that is your jealousy speaking, since you never were able to have a convincing falsetto. You might have the groupies for looks, but dominants like a sub who is in touch with their feelings.
[text] I do. In all seriousness, I want to know who it is and that they make you feel loved.
[text] I'm fine, but you are an ass a. for not including me on the email chain and b. not telling me who you were when I saw you.
[text] I did not intentionally leave you off that chain, I’ll have you know. Do you know how many family members there are? Too many, that’s what.[text] Well, I assumed you would figure it out eventually.

Mel didn’t know how to articulate what she was thinking, so it was easier to redirect the conversation. “Nothing, it’s fine. Do you need anything else now that your coffee addiction is on the road to satisfied?”
Tumblr media
“Do you know what I always hated about being a Capulet? Everyone is so careful with their words. Heaven forbid they say the wrong thing or look less than perfect.” He shrugged his shoulders, knowing it wasn’t completely true, but sometimes guilt helped to get an answer. “Just a promise that I will get to see you again before I am sent to the old folks home and have to plan a revolt to get out.”
