it’s devastating to me that the bird flu’s main news coverage has resulted from 1. death of charismatic mammals like seals and sea lions 2. impacts on commercial farmers losing mass quantities of poultry. we have lost millions of wild birds in the blink of an eye and nobody seems to care unless it can be correlated to human profit or interest

I have had this quote saved in my phone notes since I saw the film If a Tree Falls in 2012: “The industry tends to call the environmentalists radical. The reality is if 95% of the standing native forest in the United States has been cut down, its not radical to try to save the last 5%. What’s radical is logging 95%."
In the earliest 2000s I saw a documentary where a very esteemed ecologist (idk his name, don't remember, I was a kid ya know) said "Money isn't real. The environment is." and I have been excessively annoying about this exact subject (that money is FAKE but our planet is REAL) ever since
