And then there are the rules. It’s gotta be entertaining. You gotta tell a story. You can’t be too obvious but, you can’t be too obscure either. You can’t double up on songs by the same artist, unless, of course, that’s your theme. Anyway, a good compilation, like so many things in life, is hard to do.

    archie had been working with jellybean since he’d returned home after leaving school over a year ago. he’d heard just about every reaction possible to his dropping out, most of them including a disappointed frown. jellybean had been one of the few people that didn’t treat him with kid gloves and act like archie choosing to drop out was part of some bigger problem. he could just be himself around her. he didn’t feel like he had to put on a show to convince her that he was okay like he did with everyone else, which made working together so much better. 

     with the death of the jukebox, archie began to wonder how they’d go on working at pop’s. it wouldn’t be the same. he had memorized the entire line up of songs years ago. archie knew exactly what song he wanted to put on the second he got to work, and could do it without even looking. “if that’s the case, i can look out back, maybe pop kept the owner’s manual. i can call my dad and see if he can help me fix it.” in typical archie andrew’s optimism, archie was doing his best to find a solution to this problem.

out of the corner of her eye, she could see archie moving ; though she kept her gaze down, scanning carefully through curling pages and tiny handwriting. pops had numbers for people in here that jellybean knew, for sure, were long gone - her heart dropped a little upon reaching a certain cooper, though she soldiered on like a champ. dotted in the margin were notes on who unfamiliar names were, and these were what she focused on. “no luck.” she wasn’t ruling out a number. she was just finding it increasingly unlikely that one had been kept.

archie was a good guy. the joneses, as a collective, knew THAT better than anything. fp treated him as a psuedo nephew. jughead treated him like the best friend he was. jellybean...- she had always looked to the other with rose colored glasses and star struck gaze, and she never FAILED to be taken aback by how far he’d really go when he cared. most of their coworkers would have shrugged and moved on. not archie. “you andrews men are really handy, huh?” a small smile - the first that had graced her expression for the past half hour - and she glanced upwards, looking to him, “do you think there’s any real... hope, for her?”
