FishTank Week 2024! - May 12-18
Tumblr media
Well, you all asked for a rinse, repeat, and most of you wanted prompts ASAP, so welcome again to FishTank Week, 2024 edition! We had such a fun time last year bringing out all our yellow and green and fiiiiish and music. I hope 2024 brings new ideas, new inspiration, and always all the FishTank things.
FishTank? Yes, Fishtank, the name we use in the thunderfam for the brother relationship of Virgil and Gordon. Brotp for some, but otherwise still so fun to explore anyway!
When is FishTank Week? This year it'll run from Sunday May 12th through Saturday May 18th. The significance of the week? Loosely calculated as the day between their birthdays, but honestly any excuse 💚💛
How do I celebrate FishTank Week? Like last year, we are releasing a series of prompts (see below). If they inspire you to write or create art, you can choose to post those on the exact day or anytime that week. Fic, Reblogs, Recs, and Art are welcome and appreciated all week long. Anything's welcome, so don't forget mood boards, music, head canons. Whatever you can think of!
We'll be active that week as well reblogging, and with some QOTDs and daily posts reminding of the prompt(s).
I'm not interested in FishTank: *hugs* totally fine. Our tags this year will be #fishtankweek and #fishtankweek2024 if you want to block them.
Questions: Reblog, comment, or you are also welcome to reach out to me directly.
Thanks to @emtb319 and @idontknowreallywhy for collaborating this year. And @gumnut-logic for letting me use a daily dose screen shot for the below.
Tumblr media
Prompts - we've added some options within the prompts and some alternates for you to use as you like. Inspiration is the goal, and the only guideline is FishTank. The others can make an appearance too. We won't make you clean TB 4 for having a wayward Tracy, Kyrano, Creighton-Ward, or others around for the fun. But definitely Virgil and Gordon.

Good luck fish wrangling, and happy creating!
See you on the 12th,

Reassurance
Tumblr media
Had a crappy day, have no brain, so wrote soppy goop.
Many thanks to @onereyofstarlight for reading through said soppy goop. I may have to offer her a long term dental plan for her sacrifice.
I hope you don't drown in the goop.
-o-o-o-
He startled awake with a gasp.
Oh, god. Oh, god, no.
The nightmare drifted away leaving terror in its wake.
Please, god, no.
Virgil rolled over and untangled himself from the bed covers. The clock on his nightstand cheerfully claimed it was 4am.
He had only slept an hour.
Oh, hell.
He pushed his protesting body to sit up on the side of the bed, his bare feet catching in the carpet. His head fell into his hands as phantom images from his brain bounced back and forth and sweat dripped down his spine.
They were all okay.
It was just a stupid dream.
They weren’t…
He shoved off the bed and stumbled into his bathroom, hitting the light and almost blinding himself. Cold water on his face brought back reality.
His family was safe in bed.
Not dead.
Not dying.
Not screaming his name.
He groaned, closed his eyes and ran wet fingers through his hair.
Goddamnit.
He shoved a towel into his face and through his hair. Killing the bathroom light, he strode back into his bedroom, letting his eyes adjust enough to find an old t-shirt and shove it on. He pushed open the door to his rooms and stepped out into the silent hallway.
The transparent roof let in the waning moon and starlight just enough to see and Virgil made his way quietly down the hall to Alan’s bedroom.
He’d done this so many times before. Snuck into bedrooms to check on family simply because he needed a little reassurance that they were still there, still safe. To abate the terror that gnawed on his mind.
Alan was there. His littlest brother was curled up on his rug on the floor, soft breaths teasing the fibre strands in front of his face.
Virgil couldn’t see much.
But he could see enough.
He approached cautiously, not wanting to disturb and crouched down beside the kid genius with a big heart.
Allie’s face was slack in sleep, a mere shaping of shadows in the pale light from the hallway. The bandaid on his head wasn’t an injury, just a scratched pimple to prove he was still a teenager with teenager problems.
Beyond the rocket and the death-defying feats.
Virgil rested a hand ever so softly on his little brother’s arm and whispered, “Love you, Allie.”
Alan shifted and Virgil lifted his hand away. He pushed himself to his feet, ever so embarrassed should he be caught, and slipped from the room on silent feet.
He closed Alan’s door quietly and leant against the corridor wall.
Was it wrong to need the reassurance? Was he being stupid?
He swallowed, took a couple of steps and stood in front of Gordon’s door.
His military brothers were lighter sleepers and he had to be extra careful.
Gordon was tangled in his bed sheets as usual and Virgil had to fight the urge to untangle him. Messy golden hair lit up in the pale light and Virgil crouched down beside his fish brother, eyes skipping over the scars set in relief by that same light across Gordy’s back.
His brother was breathing, breath drawn in and out with the occasional snore.
Virgil dared not touch Gordon, no matter how much he wanted to. But he did watch him for a moment, etching proof of life into his brain.
“Love you, Gordy.”
Gordon grunted, grabbed a chunk of bed sheet and hugged it to his chest.
Virgil bit his lip and stepped back, slipping out the door.
He let a breath go once the door was closed.
He had to leave the residential rooms to track down his space brother. He had a pact with Eos, bribed with processors so she wouldn’t tell John.
Entering the empty comms room revealed just a hint of the coming day as the faintest of lines on the horizon to the east. Traditionally, his military brothers would be up within the hour, but considering how late they all made it to bed, John had probably cancelled all the alarms and put IR into passive mode.
Virgil couldn’t remember if Scott had given the order. He had been too strung out, too exhausted, too terrified of what almost happened and how lucky he had been.
“Eos, report on John please.”
“Good morning, Virgil.” Her voice was soft, under strict instruction due to mistakes past. “John is currently sleeping quietly. All vitals stable. He drank water before bed and has been undisturbed.”
“Thank you, Eos. Visual, please.”
“Are you sure? John has been teaching me about privacy and-“
“Eos, please. I need this.”
There was silence a moment before the holoprojector lit up, bathing the room, and Virgil, in blue.
John slept curled on his side, hands bunched up under his chin, hair in his eyes.
Virgil smiled despite himself. John had been fighting that cowlick since he was little. During the day he had it under control with all the product deployed, but at night it ruled and John surrendered.
It made him look so young.
And so atypical of his usual neat appearance.
“Love you, Johnny.”
This time he could reach out and run his fingers through photons. It wasn’t enough but it was something.
Staring a moment longer, he reached down and turned the projector off.
Night returned to the room and his eyes dazed with after images.
He took the opportunity and jogged down the stairs to the kitchen. Grabbing a glass, he filled it with tap water and sculled it down.
The cool liquid sucked the heat from his belly.
He left the cup on the sink and made his way up all the stairs and back into the residential hallways. Part of him always wanted to visit his grandmother and Kayo, but there were limits to the breaches in privacy he was willing to commit.
Standing in the hallway outside their doors, he whispered words into the woodwork and left them undisturbed.
At the end of the hallway, lay Scott’s rooms. He knew he was always welcome there. In his big brother’s own words late at night over one too many drinks, desperate to wash away memories that hurt, Scott had said in no uncertain words - anytime, anywhere, always.
Virgil had no doubt it was the same for all his brothers, for all of them. Each of them were there for each other. They were family.
But as Virgil stood outside that door, he was still of two minds. He needed to erase that image from his dream. That last gasp of breath, that terror, and his failure to be what he needed to be.
Because the biggest fear was that one day Virgil wasn’t going to be there for his big brother and that would be it. The end. Scott would be gone and Virgil’s world would crumble.
But at the same time. All this? Was stupid. Why risk Scott’s sleep, something he sorely needed, just because Virgil couldn’t keep it together?
His back fell against the corridor wall, and Virgil let himself slide down until his butt hit the floor.
His head dropped into his hands.
His eyes clenched shut.
And he wished the world away.
-o-o-o-
He didn’t realise the door had opened until a pair of long, pyjama-clad legs folded down beside him and an arm wrapped around his shoulders.
Scott’s other arm drew him in him until his brother’s face was buried in Virgil’s hair.
Virgil groaned. “Sorry.”
Scott’s breath teased his hair. “Dreams?”
“Yeah.”
His brother squeezed just a little tighter. “Same.”
“Damn…”
“Yeah.”
Virgil didn’t ask if his brother was okay, because the answer was obvious. Instead, he rested against Scott drawing in the strength for what he needed to be for his brother.
“Love you, Virg. You know that, don’t you?”
His heart missed a beat. “Yeah.” He swallowed. “Love you, too.”
“Anytime, anywhere, always.” Scott’s hand moved to the back of Virgil’s neck, warm and so there.
Virgil’s eyes closed against the cotton of his big brother’s pyjamas. “Always.”

Whumpy/Angsty WIP
Trigger warning for blood, angst, shock, whump.
OCs: Tamara Fielding, Jonesy and Mac who work with Captain Cass McCready as firefighters.
💚♥️🚒👨‍🚒👩‍🚒🧑‍🚒
As far as Virgil could tell, only two figures had stood in the direct path of the falling glass; Alan, and the firefighter who had pushed him to safety.
Alan was clearly unharmed; already scrambling to his feet, ready to assess the situation. He may be the youngest Tracy, but he was International Rescue material through-and-through.
The firefighter who had dived to save Alan, however, was still curled in the same position on the floor. Her fire jacket, and the settling dust, making it nearly-impossible to tell whether Alan's Good Samaritan was even breathing.
Please be alive, please be alive…
Maybe, by some sheer miracle, she had dodged the shards unscathed?
Maybe, she was simply lying and waiting for the immediate danger to pass?
Another second, and her ragged breathing became apparent.
Shit.
At least she was alive. He could work with alive.
"TAM!" Jonesy dashed towards his prone friend.
"Wait!" Virgil made a quick scan of his immediate surroundings.
Of course, the fire helmets were properly stored, and not immediately reachable in the decimated foyer. He'd have to improvise.
There was an upturned coffee table. That could work.
"Okay, with me" he gestured, using the table for cover from further debris.
Alan had followed suit, sheltering under the canopy of a firefighter's jacket.
Admittedly, the risk of further falling glass was relatively low - a large portion of the roof above them was now sky, but the wind outside had picked up, toppling the odd piece of loose rubble with a flurry of silt.
Virgil knelt whilst simultaneously removing his plaid shirt.
The casualty's fingers were hovering, quivering above a ragged piece of glass protruding from her abdomen.
"Tam, was it?"
"T-Tam-mmm-m," she nodded as she shivered.
"Short for Tamara." Jonesy offered.
"Tam, I'm Virgil. I'm going to need you to lie nice and still for me."
"O-k-kay…”
The firefighter gave a small laugh as a few rogue tears ran from the corners of her eyes.
“I'm o-kay. M'okay. M’kay. This is ..fineee!" Tam grinned against the tears, as though merely rejecting the situation would suffice
Virgil bunched his shirt and gently guided the woman's quivering fingers away from the wound.
What he'd give for his baldric right now.
"Tam, I know it's hard, but I'd like you to focus on your breathing for me...nice n' steady. Try to control the shivering if you can. We want this wound nice n' still."
"D... don't know...w-why... I'm...sh-shivering so m-much. Doesn't hurt that much...if-f-f I s-stay s-still."
Jonesy was staring at him. A silent conversation passing between the first responders.
Confident the risk of further glass falling was negligible; Jonesy set the desk down to shield Tam's eyes from dust. Sliding himself under the table, he reached for his friend.
"Hold my hands."
"M-M'okay" Tam's protest was feeble, and somewhat pointless, given that she conceded with a simple look.
"I'm sorry Tam, but this will likely hurt." Virgil apologised as he covered the wound (barring the glass) with his shirt.
"Alan, I need you to keep the pressure on this for me, while I set up an IV."
Fielding's sharp wail flooded the room, before fading to a choked whimper as the pain swallowed her voice.
"Ambulance should be with us in five." Mac called.
Five minutes? She'd bleed out in that time.
"Great, thanks," he mustered with as much positivity as his voice could muster.
Virgil rummaged through the medical rucksack for supplies. There must be something...anything, that could buy them some time. First thing’s first; IV.
He turned back to Alan, who was staring at the darkening shirt, his arms slack.
"Like this." Virgil manually guided Alan's hands back down to put pressure back on the wound. His brother's hands were surprisingly cold and clammy.
He's going into shock.
Virgil willed the thought away. Alan was a professional, he'd seen numerous rescues - some arguably worse than this. And right now, he could use all the help he could get.
Professionals aren't immune to trauma, though. She saved his life, possibly at the expense of her own. You need to watch him.
As soon as Virgil removed his hands from Alan's, the necessary pressure was gone again. Jonesy was quick to fill in for Alan, though his face wore a similar shade of grey.
Alan slowly stood, staring at the blood still slick on his palms. He continued to stare as he silently stumbled away in no particular direction.
Virgil tapped at his watch and dialed his emergency code.
Within moments, John's voice washed over him like a tonic.
"Virgil, you've activated your emergency beacon."
"Multi-casualty situation. Building’s unstable. Alan's in shock. Require urgent assistance."
"FAB, we're on our way."
"Your status, Thunderbird Two?"
"Uninjured."
"S-s-lot of-blood. M' S-scared." Tam continued to shiver.
"Hey, hey Tam. Look at me. Look at me."
Wide eyes fixed on his.
"Do you trust me?"
Tam gave a hesitant half-nod.
"You just saved my youngest brother. Do you think there's even a chance I'd let anything happen to you?"
The prone firefighter managed a weak smile.
"I mean, a feat like that's gotta be worth...oooh...at least two drinks at a London bar."
"Two whole drinks, huh?" Her voice was breathy.
"Have you seen London prices? Last time Scottie and myself were here, they charged him £35 for a small measure of whisky! £35! Even I needed a drink after that."
Tam's smile grew a fraction before her eyes suddenly rolled back, and her head lolled to the side.
"Tam? Tam?”

R&R
Kayo spread a towel on a sun lounger. After a string of sinfully-dull boardroom meetings, it felt like a tonic to feel the sun on her skin.
She delved into her beach bag and felt for her book - her guilty pleasure. The plot line was definitely ammunition-worthy for her brothers to rib her with, but she had never attempted to hide it from them; at least, not in the conventional sense of the word. Obscuring things from view was an invitation for her brothers to go looking. Gordon, for one, had picked a couple of locks in an attempt to uncover what he thought would be some juicy ribbing material only to find a note reading: Nice try Fish Face!
Kayo smiled at the memory. Yes, hiding things in plain sight had, and would likely always be the way forward. She had grabbed this particular novel from the bookcase in the Comms room, right next to Virgil's easel. With John hoarding his reading material on Five, nobody ever thought to look in the most obvious place possible.
Relax. Relax, relax, relax…
The sound of the ocean, the lazy clouds, no brothers around to judge…so why couldn't she relax?
She forced herself to focus, but something…some feeling niggling deep in her gut told her to be on guard. If Gordon really did had a Squid Sense, then whatever her version was of that was-
"Help!"
Kayo sprang to her feet just as Gordon came bounding out of the villa. His speed caused him to teeter on one foot as he cornered sharply to avoid falling into the pool.
“What's wron-”
“Kayo - yes! ...Ah sh*t!”
He grabbed both his sister’s arms to help slow himself before pivoting behind her, just as a furious Virgil appeared.
The gentle giant, seething, stalked towards the cowering aquanaut, who was now using Kayo as a human shield.
"What's going on?"
It was only at this moment that Kayo mentally registered that their older brother was dressed in no more than a robe for modesty. It billowed precariously behind him as he closed the distance between them, keeping one hand closed around the fabric at his waist for decency at all times.
“What did you do?” Kayo whipped around to face the prankster.
“I did nothing!” His protest was undone by his laughter.
“NOTHING?” Virgil’s baritone erupted.
“Call this nothing?” he spat, throwing a medley of garments on the ground.
Gordon continued to skirt around Kayo for protection, though the glee radiating off him was so potent it was almost tangible.
Kayo went to inspect the items of clothing.
Virgil made to grab at his brother, but the smaller Tracy was much more agile and dived just beyond reach. Gordon straightened but kept his arms up close to his chest in a precautionary, defensive stance.
At least he'd remembered something from the lessons she'd given him.
“These are all trousers and underwear?”
Kayo allowed the evidence to drop back to the floor. Her gaze switched to Virgil.
“How many?”
“All of them.” Virgil lurched for Gordon again; his physical size and strength almost knocking Kayo off balance.
“You sewed all of the leg holes of his garments closed?”
Don't laugh, don't laugh, don't laugh. Her ribs ached with the effort. Gordon would be sans shield and would be so dead if she caved.
“In my defence, he had had a couple last night, so I was a good brother - I helped him to his room! And there was this sewing kit on the side, just sitting there! I mean, who has a sewing kit just lying around like that?” he gave an impish yet triumphant grin.
Virgil's eyes darkened a fraction more.
"Come on Virg, be a sport! I'm sure Brains will lend you a pair of his tighty whities!" Gordon snorted.
Kayo braced to hold Virgil back. His expression radiated enough explosive energy to power Two. It was like the fish wanted to become pâté.
“Hey. Hey! Let me handle this.”
She levelled Virgil with a stare which, thank whatever power, stalled the advancing tank. Kayo staggered a little as she adjusted her balance, no longer needing to counter his weight. God, Virg was a powerhouse.
Gordon peered around her side, giving a smug grin. Nobody dared question Kayo.
Kayo inwardly smirked, reading his thoughts.
It was true, nobody dared challenge her. But what the Squid hadn't accounted for is that no-one would expect her to counter mischief with more mischief.
In one deft movement, she flicked her hip, sending a completely unsuspecting Gordon careering into the pool.
“Once he’s out and dry, he can use my Karambit to unpick his handiwork. Should keep him out of trouble for a good while.”
"You own Karambits?"
Kayo offered another dangerous glare.
Virgil held up a hand in mock self defense.
"You know what? I don't need to know."
He squeezed her shoulder in appreciation.
A slap of water broke the moment.
"You should come join me, the water's lovely!" Gordon beckoned, swimming casual laps around the pool.
"Maybe find some pants first."
The engineer's temper ignited much in the way Grandma's attempt at pasta had the previous week.
Virgil cannon balled into the pool.
Gordon yelped.
Virgil swam.
Gordon swam faster.
Kayo sighed and thumbed a page of her book.
