I recently had surgery, and at the time I came home, I had both my cat and one of my grandma's cats staying with me.

- Within hours of surgery, I wake up from a nap to my cat gently sniffing at my incisions with great alarm.

- I was not allowed to shower the first day after surgery, and the cats, seeing that The Large Cat is not observing its cleaning ritual, decided I must be gravely disabled and compensated by licking all the exposed skin on my arms, face, and legs.

- I currently have to sleep with a pillow over my abdomen because my cat insists on climbing on top of me and covering my incisions with her body while I sleep (which is very sweet but not exactly comfortable without the pillow). She also lays across me facing my bedroom door, presumably on guard for attackers who may try to harm me while I'm sleeping and injured.

Neurodivergence isn’t just ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression. (Plus those last two also get left out sometimes!) Neurodivergence is anything that affects your brain.

“Neurodivergent people hate loud noises” is actually just as valid as a statement as “neurodivergent people have delusions,” “neurodivergent people have tics,” or even “neurodivergent people have low empathy.”

"Don't grieve for me when I'm go—" listen up here asshole. If you wanted to tell me how to feel about your death, you shoulda fucking stuck around. You're not here so you don't get a say anymore. You're not the one who has to deal with the emotional and logistical consequences of your passing. You are the missing piece in my life now, so you have (had) neither the knowledge nor ability to predict the best way for me to cope with it. And frankly, yes, I would have felt better if there'd been some kind of massive event where I could join everyone else grieving your loss and we could say to each other the awful hollow things that can't make it okay but can make it better, and then we could go get drunk about how much we missed you. So frankly, go fuck yourself. I miss you like hell. Hopefully you can take this criticism on board the next time you die. xo.

Authoritarian mindsets in schools do exactly this sort of life-threateningly dangerous bullshit because the people in charge in those institutional cultures think of themselves as the ultimate and unerring gatekeepers who exist in opposition to kids, who in their viewpoints are inherently troublemakers testing boundaries rather than people with the whole gamut of motivations and needs.

Sometimes it’s necessary to call 911 about something that happens in school that implicates the adults in charge with abuse or potentially lethal mistreatment. But doing so is a gamble, because police and other systems of authority connected to 911 dispatch often uphold the authority of the school administration and staff even if the school staff or cultural environment is very obviously endangering children. Think of Nex Benedict and the body cam footage of a cop telling this kid they were responsible for the hate crime against them and shouldn’t press charges because charges could be pressed against them.

So if your school is keeping your insulin from you and you call 911, you could get firefighters ready to break down the door or EMTs giving you insulin (that they’d then charge to your parents’ insurance rather the school), or get police who show up and arrest you for challenging authority because you need your lifesaving medicine.

I don’t know if there’s really a good conclusion to make here other than the fact that any sufficiently entrenched bureaucracy would rather follow procedures that are convenient for those in power than figure out how to accommodate someone’s medical needs. And 911 might come down on the side of school administrators rather than your right to live.

I need people to stop blaming the death of movies on “quips”. A quip is just a funny line of dialogue. That’s all. Like I just saw a post talking about quips and the death of movies and brought up Pirates of the Caribbean as an example of a better movie and yes it is but also that movie is FULL OF QUIPS. I just rewatched The Princess Bride. It’s all quips. Every single line. And it’s a masterpiece.
