do you remember when we all thought everything would be all right. when we had faith that the underdogs could win, just like they did before, maybe not through conventional means, maybe not without losses, but they could do it? that everyone would make it out more or less okay?

do you remember how everyone refused to believe wilbur could be the traitor even when he told them outright that he was? do you remember wilbur saying l’manberg would be gone and tommy correcting him to saved? do you remember tubbo’s speech about fixing things, about damaged things, and how wilbur hung his head? do you remember wilbur saying “i’ll be back” when he left for the button room, and how everyone believed him?

do you remember how so many of us held our breath right up until wilbur pressed the button because some part of us wanted to believe that he wouldn’t do it?

do you remember how they fixed things, how they rebuilt, how ghostbur tried to make everything pretty and how they all tried to move on? do you remember how they said it would be different this time, that they weren’t going to be like wilbur or schlatt or dream or make those same mistakes? do you remember how it didn’t matter in the end because no matter how hard they tried, they still lost, and we had to watch through their eyes as their home was taken away from them and the van was destroyed and tommy whispered “that was my last memory of wilbur” and how ghostbur sobbed and screamed at his father and we had to sit back and think about how far we had come from a ragtag group of friends standing on top of a van at sunrise and yelling triumphantly in a tyrant’s face?

do you remember being hopeful? i think i do. i like to think i still am. i like to think the characters are too, even though they get beaten down time and again and lose everything. i want to believe there are better things than this. and i can’t believe a fucking minecraft roleplay is screwing me over like this again.

i remember believing in the best outcome, or at the very least a good one. and i think i’d like to keep doing that.

Damn. Okay. Didn't know that killing my suicidal son, insulting his ghost - who is also technically my son - by calling him a doll because his memory disability makes him see the world in a different and more empathetic way, blowing up his nation, using his declining mental health as an excuse for terrorism, treating his ghost like a child who doesn't understand things because of the aforementioned memory disability, aligning with my son's friend's abuser for the sole reason of getting revenge on children, making his ghost suicidal, attempting to kill the suicidal ghost, threatening to kick my son out of the house because he doesn't want to hang out with a stalking enderman hybrid who's secondary species is unknown, and treating him like a child were things I had to do to be a good parent! I'll be sure to take this into consideration when I have kids!
