Weird to me that CHAZ and CHOP are talked about with any kind of fondness, especially CHOP which barely existed. CHOP was more a suggestion or an idea than a practice. CHAZ had deadly consequences for Black teenagers. This wasn’t territory that was “seized” and held by a revolutionary force, it was a few blocks the police had temporarily and strategically retreated from and then re-appropriated when given the opportunity. Unarmed teenagers cannot seize territory from armies. “Temporary,” sure but autonomous? Absolutely not. We are not autonomous until the police are running for their lives, preferably outside a 500 mile radius from the liberated areas.
