Thoughts on last nights episode…
* I just love domestic brotherly scenes. I need more, I want like a whole episode of them just doing nothing. Relaxing, doing laundry, idk, having some fun!
* Sam’s initial shock at her flirting 😂
* And Dean is so done with it!
* Dean just shut off after Sam mentioned someone taking the Impala.
* There was a real fear for a moment there the priest wasn’t going to be okay. Phew!
* Damn all the brother moments this is great!
“You’re like a Boy Scout always prepared.”
“Your like, I don’t know what your like.”
“Oh, you can feel it.”

Yooo.. That tear that rolled down Barry’s face when he saw Iris wasn’t wearing his ring almost did me in.

I want a scene where Barry and Iris are at some fancy restaurant and Barry is being all romantic and sweet. Doing everything that Iris likes and she takes her foot and runs it up his leg and she’s looking at him with those dreamy eyes and says “You can’t even imagine the things I’m gonna do to you when we get home” and he’s like “CHECK PLEASE”!

Thirsty Barry???
Of course he was thirsty! Barry probably wanted some at the end of 3x12 after Iris said she loved and trusted him; that she loved all of him. But at the beginning of 3x13 they’re both in Star Labs in the same clothes as 3x12 which means their alone time got interrupted. Again. Then he goes off to fight gorillas and wins. Now he’s not even waiting to get to the bedroom. The couch is just fine. 😂

Why I Loved Barry's Proposal
Barry Allen is a family man. He’ll do anything for family. But the sad truth is that all of his family (his blood) are gone. All Barry has left of his family are the precious heirlooms and memories they left behind.
So by proposing to Iris with that ring, a family heirloom, and sharing the significance and history behind it, Barry is sharing his family with Iris and, in a way, making her a part of HIS family. (He is already a part of hers).
He tells her how his great grandfather saved money for three years to buy the ring and how he carried it on his dog tags as he fought in the war across Europe. Despite war and distance and time, the love between his great grandparents endured.
Barry also says that the ring belonged to Nora and I imagine that it was Nora who passed down this story to him when he was younger and it’s her voice he hears in his head as he retells the story to Iris.
The proposal is so beautiful because Barry’s not just telling Iris how much he loves her or that she’s everything to him or that he wants to spend every moment with her. Those type of love declarations fall from his lips on an ordinary day. It’s his norm.
Proposing with the ring and family lore goes beyond love declarations. It’s so special because this is all he has of his family…and he gives it to her. The ring and it’s history have been passed down from generation to generation in the Allen family, it’s probably something that all Allens know or knew. Now Iris knows it too. He’s making her an Allen.

He is literally inhaling her in this moment. He is hopped up on the sweetest drug he’s ever experienced and it’s name is Iris. Check out the longing in his face when he let’s her lip go and tilts his head to the side. He is almost breathless and he is so gone. “Where’s the chemistry” the haters say, “We just don’t see it”! Well honey, THIS is the reason that Candice was hired for this role. THIS is the kind of raw, pure, concentrated emotion that TPTB witnessed in her audition and that made Grant say “That is Iris West”. How do you argue with the star himself??? Even a blind man can see this chemistry between the actors and those that don’t, they simply don’t want to see it.

You know what I am looking forward to the MOST - in either this finale or the first episode of next season?
That Moment.
The one where it hits Barry and Iris that she’s safe and this nightmare that has haunted them both is over. They don’t have to count their relationship in days and hours and minutes and “if only"s anymore. That future that had been reduced to this tiny little quantifiable dot had now opened up and become a wide, expansive landscape of possibilities.
They can look forward to the future again. They can plan their wedding. The ticking clock is no longer a traitor, counting down the minutes until Iris is gone. Iris no longer HAS to be strong. Barry no longer HAS to be brave for her. The weight that has been pulling them both down has been lifted.
It’s over.
I really hope - either this week or in the premiere of next season - they give us that moment. They deserve it. And the next time Iris and Barry cry, I want it to be with joy.

Sometimes I think about the way Barry handled the bodies of his mother, father, and Iris in the immediate moments after their deaths. When he watched Nora be killed again, he pressed his face to her chest, which is a very maternal touch. After Henry died, he cupped his face with his hand, which is also affectionate but keeping his dad at arm’s length is kind of symbolic of their distance in their relationship, since Henry was absent during much of Barry’s life. But with Iris, Barry held onto her like he wasn’t going to let go, as if someone was eventually going to have to pry him away from Iris.

Sometimes Iris struggles to keep her promise to Barry. Most of the time, it takes every ounce of energy she has to get out of bed in the morning, but she does, because she promised him she'd be ok. Iris wakes up from incessant dreams of Barry, and it feels like she's lost him all over again. She sees him in everything now. When she walks to Jitters, visiting her dad at the station, and especially in STAR labs. She hears his laughter after every one of Cisco's terribly amazing puns, and she pictures his contagious smile when Wally returns from his missions. Iris wishes more than anything that he was still with her, but that isn't reality anymore. Iris runs a lot more now, almost anywhere she goes. With adrenaline pumping through her veins, she feels more connected to Barry. She's trying to love and continue to keep growing like Barry told her to, but some days it's hard enough to step foot into STAR labs without breaking down. Iris misses her Bear with every atom that makes up her body. She constantly aches to have him near and feel his arms wrap around her. She misses his groggy morning voice and his intoxicatingly attractive bed head. She misses the way he'd hum her favorite song to her and trace circles in her back after a long day at work. Most off all, she misses her hand intertwined with his and his kisses, whether it was filled with passion or a quick goodnight kiss, she felt empty without him. All Iris West Allen wants is her Barry back, is that too much to ask for.

Crying b/c @irissswests‘s gif of westallen kissing at the end of 3x21 on her blog is not only so hot b/c they’re so into it, but also like…they love each other so much.
Iris loves Barry so much, and she’s probably dying, just aching, right now b/c despite her denial, some part of her knows there’s a chance she’ll never see Barry again. She’ll never touch him. She’ll never feel his arms around her, his breath against her neck, his kiss on her lips, his heart beating strong and solid and sometimes racing as she lays her head against his chest… She’ll never hear him say he loves her or that he can’t wait to marry her, won’t hear ‘Iris West-Allen’ drift off his lips, won’t hear or see him say his vows, even though she gave hers to him in case she didn’t make it… She won’t hear him sing to her or coo to their unborn children in her belly in the middle of the night when his hand lays there almost involuntarily… She won’t see him look at her with worry or love or pure admiration or even lust… She won’t see the love of her life ever again after they were so close to having everything.
This is a real possibility. And only by ignoring it can she keep going forward. Because she’s lost him so many times, but she always got him back. This time will be no exception.
Before she does though….her heart is breaking, she’s just barely holding herself together trying to focus on anything but how much she misses him and how she might not get him back. She succeeds mostly, but at night when she’s alone in their too big bed, it’s all she can think about. She cries herself to sleep every night, and she wakes up numb and exhausted every morning, regardless of how much sleep she got. She tells herself Keep going, Iris. Barry told you to run, so run. Don’t let him down. Don’t fall apart. Don’t stop living.
But sometimes it’s really hard, and she disobeys his command, because life without Barry after having him for so long is like trying to breathe without oxygen. And it hurts. It hurts more than anything she could have possibly imagined.
And that - that makes me cry. Girl deserves the world. Give her her Barry back.

Would it be too literal to want season 4 to open with an Iris voice over and her running?
And then we see that when she runs she keeps the engagement ring in a chain and wears that. Not exercising means it goes back on her hand where it belongs. She’s working or she’s running, sometimes she’s doing both.
A barista at jitters tells her her fiancé is a lucky guy and she immediately smiles, they ask her when’s the wedding which is a little invasive as it is but it takes her a moment to realise she doesn’t know anymore. She just knows he’ll come back. He has to.
She’s HIS and he is HERS. They always find each other. She meant that. So she’ll find him. If he doesn’t find her first, she’ll find him. She knows it.
She sleeps on his side of the bed in the now too big loft. She couldn’t at first. She’d fall asleep on the couch after a long day at the office and refuse to move. Everything hurts but she’ll keep going. She promised. Sometimes Wally comes over, he gets the couch now that she’s made it up to Barry’s side of the bed.
She doesn’t tell him that the one time he woke up to speed cook her and Joe breakfast, she thought he was Barry. She thinks he knows though. Must have seen her reaction, or noticed she hardly ate. He never speed cooks or speeds anything in the loft again.
-
It’s hard to explain his absence at work. Julian and Cisco falsify some leave applications. Joe helps reinforce that Barry took some time off and tries not to flinch when Singh makes a comment about him just up and leaving everyone behind. Once again, the boy saves them and the world and only they will know.
It’ll get harder to explain as more time passes. They all know that. But what’s a job if he’s never coming back?
-
Joe tries not to think about it. Iris. He has to look out for Iris. She doesn’t talk much about it and he knows she believes Barry will come back. He’s a skeptic but even he wants to believe that. Wally. He’s carrying the flash mantle alone now, he’s gonna need all the support he can get.
Barry- The boy may not be his blood but he is he’s kid. Since he was 11. He needs Barry Allen in his life. He needs him back. Not just for Iris. Or Wally or the team. He wants his boy back. He wasn’t supposed to go before him. That’s just a rule. It should be.
It hits him when he least expects it. When he walks into the CCPD lab, when it rains, when he’s sitting with a beer in his hand after a long day. It hits him and it’s not okay.
-
Central City needs The Flash and with Wally they have one. He hears Barry’s words that night in his head sometimes when he runs. They have one. It’s him. He’s become the hero Barry always knew he could be. He is. He has to be. He does what he does best- he runs. He runs and he saves and he helps. Every time he does, he wonders if he’ll see Barry or hear him. They’re connected right? So why can’t he?
He focuses on Iris, being supportive of his Sister. He can’t imagine her pain but he can be there if she needs him. He trains with Cisco and Cynthia. Each day he pushes and pushes. The better he gets the more he can do and he’ll do it. He’ll do all of it.
-
“They’ll look to you now”. Will they Barry? He was right though, they do. He’s keeping his focus on mastering his powers and pushing his limits. He trains with Wally and Cynthia. He needs the distraction, after everything, he needs this. The three of them testing the waters of how to disable the other. How to beat the other. Then they apply what they learn to the Metas. It’s a weird system but it works. Meta training. He’ll even come out and say it- it’s fun. He can’t stop that he keeps expecting to hear Barry laugh or see his lightning or him.
So he trains when they can and all the other times? He and Iris work on a way to reach Barry. The question isn’t so much how but where? When? What do they do? Honestly? The time spent on it has become a lot of them just trying every avenue. Sometimes there are tears, both his and hers. They eat ice cream and they talk. They try not to reminisce. He doesn’t want her to feel like he’s accepting that Barry is gone. He knows she hasn’t and she won’t. So he won’t either.
