DENOUEMENT.
if you were whisked away from the only life you knew, transported to a new world, and asked to start fresh - what would you do? what if we told you that said new world was dying, and depended on your presence to survive?
denouement is a well-established mfrp which explores these moral  implications. our cast of characters have the choice of joining one of four deity-led factions - each with its own views on the world they inhabit and whether it has the right to exist, even if that means abducting and imprisoning people to do so.
the dying world of denouement has desperately cobbled together cities and landscapes from all different eras, and each region has its own wonders and dangers.
we are multi-format, meaning that our rping is done via several different mediums: our icc boxes (which allow for real time, structured group rp with your friends), discord (where we host special thread events and also provide a chatroom rp option), and traditional play-by-post forum threads for whenever you feel like settling in and writing some long-form prose. our main site plot (updated seasonally) is centered around the four factions, but we are constantly providing other, more low-key events to get involved in, and encourage member-run plotting as well. we are both canon & oc friendly.

gimme some villaneve au ideas you been tossing around lately
i HAVE been on a strange au trip lately which is unusual for me because i usually prefer focusing on canon! must be the hiatus. okay here are a few:
dark au: i have a headache even thinking about how i would do a fully fleshed out dark au but the urge to combine current hyperfixations.... is strong..... plus i’m going to be real, “character has to repeat time loops over and over and over in a desperate and doomed attempt to save someone they love” is like, one of my favorite tropes ever (madoka do NOT interact.  in fact, even jonas and martha from dark itself, do not interact. claudia and regina, you can interact.) so anyway with this i was kind of imagining a scenario where there are two “sides” trying to fight to control time travel, similar to canon, and villanelle is some kind of assassin for the sic mundus side, like just a tool they use to ensure everything falls into place in every loop. eve, meanwhile, ends up aligning with the more claudia-esque side who are kinda trying to save everyone, and she and villanelle of course end up fixating on each other and there are like... multiple different versions interacting various points. sometimes they’re bitter enemies. sometimes eve is from much further along from villanelle, and desperately in love with her while villanelle is still sort of treating it like a fun game. sometimes villanelle is from even further along than EVE and ultimately abandons everything to try to save her in every loop, because i’m picturing eve having to make some sort of sacrifice at the end of hers like claudia does. it’s confusing, what i’m picturing in my head, but the pieces are THERE.
alias au: this one has been living in my brain rent free since the other day. basically the core idea is just, making villanelle and eve sydney and vaughn, kind of. villanelle works for the twelve, but in this verse she doesn’t KNOW she does, she’s been told its some black ops offshoot of mi6. they kill someone important to her, she finds out the truth, decides to go to REAL mi6 to work as a double agent and get revenge, etc. eve is already working for mi6, but kind of a similar vibe to canon where it’s mostly desk work and she’s perpetually dissatisfied, but SUPER fixated on the twelve (maybe bill is also dead in this verse. maybe, MAYBE to make things EXTRA spicy, villanelle killed him in this verse too, only this time she was lied to about the twelve about who he was). so anyway, when villanelle strolls in to mi6 and declares she wants to be a double agent, eve gets assigned to her case as her handler, and probably if villanelle killed bill it’s a complete disaster at first, and they have to learn how to build trust between them from the ground up and everything is high stakes and they’re constantly in danger of the twelve finding out everything and i DIE.
hunger games au:  i’ve already been talking about this one for a while and other people have been building their own ideas off it, but in regards to villaneve SPECIFICALLY.  i keep imagining this scenario where the two of them were the dual victors of their games, katniss and peeta style, because their volatile relationship has kind of become this HUGE capitol sensation and public sentiment was wildly against either of them coming out of the games without the other. it’s a verse where their canon relationship is like.... really, really played up to an almost meta extent, because of course everything has to be a performance if they’re to survive. they still have an incredible and authentic raw connection to one another, but they’re also huge celebrities and nothing in their lives is private and everything has to be calculated not only to play their own game, but to play the capitol’s, so.... it’d really be like a story about the two of them figuring out what’s real and how to claim agency in defining their relationship. eventually they probably become rebels because WAY down the line there was an idea about fox revealing himself as one who’s been alive this whole time, so.
rwby au: i didn’t even figure anything out for this one, i just have to list it here as a possible option to flesh out later because i feel like it’s obligatory at this point in their lives.
the good place au: this is an idea i haven’t touched in ages but my mom just started watching the good place, so i’ve been thinking about it again. pretty self-explanatory. villaneve end up in the bad place and get paired up as soulmates, everyone assumes they’re going to torture each other for all eternity but instead it turns out they really do complete each other and somehow manage to actually end up making each other better people, etc.
beauty and the beast au: another old one, even more self explanatory, that exists purely because villanelle is absolutely That asshole who’d be vain and selfish towards a secret enchantress and get herself cursed to be a literal Monster unless she can figure out how to be loved in return. i feel like this one, if done right, would be an interesting examining of the intertwining between love and obsession, and the inherent soul-deep connection villaneve will always have vs. the ways they have to actually LEARN to love each other.

there are people in this fandom who say that anyone who suggests season 2 was a drop in quality from season 1 are just blindly stanning season 1 or just can’t accept the differences between phoebe and emerald’s showrunning but i’m gonna be real with y’all. phoebe’s “i don’t give a fuck about trying to fit my characters into definable boxes” tendencies made all the difference in villanelle’s writing. season 2 got WAY too excited about trying to define what a “psychopath” is and what a “relationship” with one looks like and it’s had an ugly effect on some of y’all who don’t even realize it

There’s a tiny cafe in Paris that serves very bitter coffee and very sweet pastries. It’s a remarkable contrast that never gets boring, and the place is tucked away into a corner of the city, a blip on any tourist map or popular website. Only the local, finer connoisseurs even seem to know it exists, and so to Villanelle, it has always felt like hers. Her own little secret, silly yet strangely gratifying. So few things had been permitted to be private, working for the Twelve.
The Paris here is not like the Paris she knew back home - which makes sense, given that it is almost forty years removed in time - and while the famous landmarks, the Seine, and the more well-known older buildings are all still there, it has always been difficult to find smaller things that remind her of home.
Which was why it had been such a surprise - a delight - to find that the cafe was still there. Decades younger, but somehow still so the same.
Maybe it is this kind of familiarity that Villanelle is craving when she retreats there tonight.
The kindly old woman who runs the counter asks her order, and Villanelle recites it, same as she always does. When she only gets an odd, blank look in response, it takes her a moment to register the reason.
Villanelle had spoken to her in Russian, just now.
Her mind draws a blank, her thoughts scrambled and confused. Sometimes - if she is very, very upset - it becomes harder to manage other languages, but in this instant, it’s like she’s forgotten every one she’s ever learned. All those years of study just ruined by one bad night, by the warmth of a hand pressing into hers, by familiar, kind eyes.
Villanelle clutches the counter a little too tightly and wills her head to clear. It is fortunate, perhaps, that her French is even better than her English, and the woman smiles at her kindly as she laughs off her own mistake and corrects herself.
Just coffee tonight, Villanelle tells her as an afterthought. No pastries.
She settles at her usual table with her little cup and stares out at the street, wishing there were more people out at this hour to watch. Then wishing she had not come here at all, that she had instead gone somewhere that would permit her total isolation, so that she might…
Cry? Would she cry? She hadn’t when Anna had shot – but she swallows back the thought, smothers it as violently as she can, because she knows that is how this works. Villanelle hardly has any experience at all with feeling scared, or small, but on the rare occasion that she does, it’s smothering those feelings away that always works.
Konstantin tells her sometimes that this world is a good thing. That it has been good for her. Like Villanelle can really tell the difference between better and worse. She knows things now that she’d never bothered learning before, yes, but she feels heavier too, almost all the time now. Like this place has made her darker, sadder, angrier, and surely…  surely having nothing in you at all is better than having all of those things?
Well.
Maybe she can just give them back.
Like returning a gift you don’t want anymore because you found out it doesn’t fit, that it doesn’t look quite right on you.
(That isn’t how feelings work, but Villanelle is alone, and no one gets to stop her from pretending.)

hey so i don’t post this kind of thing usually but, as i’ve mentioned here before, my aunt found out this summer that she has cancer. medical expenses for treatment are ROUGH especially since her primary source of income is her petsitting business which… she can’t really maintain on her end while she’s sick (though right now her husband is trying to cover what he can) so if ANYONE can spare even a small donation to the gofundme a close friend of theirs set up, that would mean the world to me!!! nancy is genuinely one of the kindest, funniest people i know and has touched so many people and animal’s lives. of course i know not everyone has money to spare so even just a reblog helps immensely, and thank you all so much in advance <3

Hey I know you touched on it in spears ask but it was so fascinating hearing you talk about her, can you say more about like. How denny has effected villanelle and how its changed her outlook and approach to some things (like the oksana plot for example...)
to use a weird analogy, i always think of denny!villanelle as like. you know when people adopt like, tigers or cougars and swear up and down that they’re domesticated for years and then one day, like a switch flipping, the cat turns on them and mauls them? yeah,
of course it is a little complicated than that because for all of my jokes, she is a person, but…
okay let’s start with GRACE because although they are about to really fuck up her life pretty soon, GRACE has actually been an essential component in villanelle’s. relative stability. villanelle is… she doesn’t have the pathology of a legit serial killer where she “needs” to kill, necessarily, but she desperately needs stimulation, excitement, action, violence, etc. without that kind of outlet, she gets bored, and when she’s bored is when she tends to… seriously misbehave, to say the least.
so ironically (given what’s about to go down), being a part of something that keeps her busy and knows how to use her skills very effectively has been a big part of what kept her. grounded enough in the other parts of her life to be able to do things like bond with other people! it’s also helped that, up until recently, villanelle hasn’t really perceived GRACE as as much of an invasive threat to her as the twelve were, doesn’t feel like she’s on as tight of a “leash”, and has thus been a little more relaxed in her position there….. her mistake,
but another major facet of her life on denny that has undoubtedly had a huge effect on her is also just… the simultaneous normalcy of it! for awhile it’s worked out that she’s gotten to have this exciting life as an assassin while also like… having consistent and normalized? relationships? not just vague acquaintances that she sees in passing every day, but like, actual consistent, friendly contact with other people. the opportunity to have “friends”, which she might treat very flippantly as a concept, but none the less it’s something she’s never really had before. and that’s fascinating to me! villanelle gets to (or has gotten to, at least) hang around people she enjoys and is fond of without feeling threatened and without having that disrupted for long enough to actually get… attached to the concept, and even to legitimately bond with a couple of those people in strange, stilted ways
fox and ruby are definitely among the highest on the list for being worth mentioning in that regard. you wanted me to talk about the whole oksana thing so just briefly i’ll say that that was incredibly… like, formative to hers and fox’s relationship. that’s something she doesn’t tell anyone about, generally, and there aren’t a lot of surviving people who even knew her from back then, so the fact that fox experienced that part of her really contributes to making her feel like he’s at least starting to know… all of her. which is really jarring and rare.
ruby, in contrast, knows hardly anything about villanelle at the end of the day (though to be fair, at the same time, hunter and i have talked about the fact that ruby simultaneously… knows some of the most well-hidden and important parts of villanelle), but their relationship has been so essential in villanelle trying to figure out how experiencing empathy… works. masky and weiss have done that too, but that happened in a completely different context and one that was kind of negative for all three of them at the time, like when you relate to someone in a really… bad way. ruby stands out as the person villanelle actually tries to empathize with because she wants to, and that’s a really huge thing. there’s a lot of modern research about people with low empathy paired with other psychopathic or sociopathic traits having to need to choose to be empathetic (whereas most people are to some degree empathetic by default) rather than just not being capable of it at all, so i try to incorporate that when i’m building her more positive relationships
and also while i’m talking about how her relationships have affected her, i need to of course talk about eve because, OBVIOUSLY. eve is so important to villanelle, probably the most important thing to villanelle. i think if eve hadn’t been around we probably, to some extent, would have seen villanelle more volatile, because she’d be looking for… some way to fill that hole in her life. but instead, her and eve have been actually kind of… coexisting. of course it’s not an objectively ideal situation because eve has like! no kind of emotional support system! so it was very easy for villanelle to just whisk her away for Murder Adventures and start nudging eve into an increasingly dark place, but at the same time, i think eve sometimes pushes villanelle into a lighter one. villanelle wants to have a life with eve, wants for that to work SO BADLY that there’s a lot that she would probably be willing to try to do at this point (not that i’m saying all of it would work out). as it is, she is at least… making a genuine effort to get eve to trust her, which entails trying to be honest and aware of eve’s feelings, so that’s a start!
things working out as they have also just means that like. villanelle kind of, sort of, in a sense has this one thing she really really wants, on top of having a job she likes, and a life she likes. overall, up until recently, she’s! probably been the closest to happy as she’s capable of being! barring some of her usual disconnect/loneliness/frustrations because of that, because of course the lot of the people she likes aren’t people she can really, fully be herself around, for obvious reasons (the exceptions being eve and konstantin and kind of fox). and i think that’s something villanelle’s had deep, underlying issues with since anna (who was the woman she was in love with when she was a teenager, long, messy story). but. that aside, the bottom line being that villanelle, for most of her life on denny, hasn’t really wanted for much in either her professional or her personal life.  and that’s kept her from lashing out or being as unpredictable as… she sometimes can be, which also means that the relationships she’s had so far have had the time and space for development, and that she’s had the time and space to learn… maybe how to care about people, kind of!
all of this having been said, i DON’T think villanelle has questioned her morals or changed her outlook on that at all. she’s undoubtedly had some development in other areas, but she is still pretty rigidly a remorseless killer who enjoys her job. nothing has happened to change that, and outside of the people she’s close to, she doesn’t really… view other people as people, still. i think graceplot as a whole is interesting for her because it DOES have a lot of potential to force her into some more emotional development/make her face a lot of inner conflict as well as outer conflict, but also like!! it has a lot of potential to push her into circumstances where she’s much more… feral! at the end of the day, she’s not relatively well-behaved because she’s changed (although obviously in some ways she has), but because her life is convenient, and she’s content with it. if you throw a whole entire wrench into that and turn everything upside down and make her desperate, i… mean, i don’t know, she can be incredibly unpredictable. just like that “tamed” tiger, no matter how likeable and funny and endearing villanelle can be, you always have to remember that she could decide to bite
but she’s also not even the person she was when she first got to denny, so i think all of these elements are going to combine in a way that’ll be really fun to play and hopefully really fun to watch, whatever happens!!

New people getting into Killing Eve before season 2 starts is great until the fandom has to go through people bitching about how shipping Villaneve is toxic and problematic again. Like bitch we already went through this last summer. No one thinks it would be a good idea for someone to date a psychopath in real life or KILL PEOPLE but IT’S FICTION and it is so blatantly not healthy that it’s understood everyone knows all this. It’s ships like R**lo you have to worry about where people actually try to excuse the abusive character’s behavior and it mirrors a lot of real life toxic relationships. Villaneve is so outlandish that we all suspend disbelief and ship it. It’s a quirky gay spy thriller with amazing acting and writing and I’m sorry y'all can’t have fun.

“People’s questions about Villanelle are always: does she have emotions; does she have morals? You know, we have these glimpses of her maybe feeling something, but what is it? What is it that we don’t know? That’s definitely something that we’ve explored in series two, whether she is battling with her conscience – what’s under there?” - Jodie Comer
