       “   you  &  roy  faced  a  band  of  thugs  unarmed  &  untrained ,  thea  ran  away  with  her  murderous  father  &  did  illicit  drugs  for  YEARS .  my  stupidities  are  AT  LEAST  calculated  .”  he  braces  himself ,  turns  his  torso  just  in  case  laurel  decided  to  play  rough  with  his  injuries  again .

      THEY ALMOST MADE IT.    fingertips press gingerly to torso,   almost affectionately,   before the comment causes her to deliver a sharp slap.    “   you wanna elaborate on that?   ”

       he  WINCES ,  the  slap  delivers  sharp  pain  through  his  newly  stitched  sutures ;  blue  eyes  narrow .  “  if  you  promise  not  to  HURT  me  again ,  maybe  .”
