This is my first blog...EVER I thought this was a great way to share my experiences as I prepare to walk a portion of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. A little bit about me... My name is Nicole Fisher. I am 44 years old and have focused most of my life on my family, my friends and my work. In 2008, I made a concerted effort to begin focusing on me. I realized I had been ‘taking care of’ everyone and everything around me and now I needed to take care of me. The first real step was joining Weight Watchers. Since May 2008, I have lost 50 +/- lbs. While I have not yet reached my goal weight, I have discovered many things about myself during this journey… First and foremost, I am not a fan of exercise. However, activity is kind of important if you need to lose weight and want to become a healthier person. One thing I have discovered in the last 5 years, is that I love to walk. Whether I am walking with a good friend, my sister, my mother, my step-mother or simply waking alone, it is a cathartic and an awakening experience for me. So, taking 3 weeks off from work to walk from Leon to Santiago de Compostela is, in many ways simply, the next phase of my journey... There are many reasons, I suppose, ‘why’ I want to take this walk…However, I think I am most excited about what I will discover while I am in the midst of the walk.
