Why is it that even though all the gls we gave currently are getting millions of views and the gl pairings are selling out venues, trending on social media and appearing on magazine covers people are still saying there isnt much hype for gl? What do y'all even constitute as hype because clearly we have two different definitions. Freenbecky literally signed a memorandum with the thai government to promote thai products in their show but people swear up and down gl has a grand total of 2 fans.

For anything else you want to say about the new show Renegade Nell, I'm deeply appreciative for its sartorial gender subversion. I love that we get to see Nell alternate between and at times actively mix codes of feminine and masculine dress AND that the response to this subversion is an equally mixed reaction of acceptance, confusion, and an absolute grab bag of pronouns and descriptors.
Specifically, I enjoy the refusal of limits. Nell's "disguise" as a nobel woman is complete, believable, and well received. Her "disguise" as a doctor is complete, believable, and well received. Her choice to stand before the queen in military dress is accepted at the same time as she retains the feminine social etiquette of curtsying (even as she does so awkwardly). What we are seeing is a complete refusal of easy categorization and that strategy of opacity is so expertly delivered by Louisa Harland and is so very queer.
I'd love to see a deeper investigation into the costuming of this show, its historical referrants, and the queer readings it elicits

There's a lot of great acting in renegade nell, but today I wanna address that one bit in the finale where louisa screamed as if what was happening in that moment was pure physical agony for nell because holy shit

You know that Gotta be one of my favorite genders meme? That’s me right now about Louisa Harland, particularly when watching Renegade Nell but also Derry Girls to a lesser extent. I just want kiss the entire Renegade Nell costume department on the lips…or give them high fives if that’s what they’d prefer.
look, i didn't even know louisa harland's name before this show. she was "just" orla's actress to me. now i'm definitely a louisa harland fan. and i see what you mean about gender, the costumes ARE great but it also wouldn't work the same with every actor and louisa is a pretty great choice

I'm really afraid for Renegade Nell. This show has largely been growing by word of mouth. However, on Friday Fallout is going to drop, and I feel that any talk of Renegade Nell will be completely blown off the map and forgotten. This is my last ditch effort to drum up watchers for the show.
Virtually everyone I've talked to that loved Willow, also loved Renegade Nell. I feel confident that the rest of the Willow fandom will also enjoy it. Do yourself a favor and check out the first episode.

Honestly I could see Polly/Nell being great further down the road. It's an unexpected, unlikely pairing but that works to their benefit. Polly demands very little of Nell and doesn't judge her like all of her peers do at a time when Nell has the weight of the world sitting on her shoulders. Likewise, Nell could use someone outside of her sisters and Rasselas to be able to lean on. This all has the added bonus for Polly of offering an escape from her stuffy lifestyle and pissing her wealthy overbearing parents off to boot.

polly honeycombe is actually such a a fascinating character. she's wealthy and spoiled but considerably less snobby and entitled than her peers. she's a genuinely kind person and a romantic at heart who also has a strong case of Main Character Syndrome and fawns over nell playing the dashing hero to her damsel in distress (or highway woman robbing her on the side of the road. even if nell has no idea she's playing that part. I love polly and all her quirkiness.
