the manuscript ending the album on the utter jawdrop moment that neither of the muses of the actual album were the first men to fuck her up with promises of marriage and babies, and that first heartbreak so long ago laid the scene for the woman she would become and the ways she would approach love and how we all watched her life like scenes in a show but she kept coming back to the manuscript of the first torrid affair that ruined her, to bookend an album about two love affairs that destroyed her utterly in almost the exact same way, because all her muses are acquired like bruises........ it's bone-chilling

I’ve been offline for a couple days and am just catching up on your blog but re Smallest Man being more scathing than anything she’s ever written before — I think it’s because she gives him no benefit of the doubt, because he doesn’t deserve it. There is no nuance, there is no “I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace,” there’s no questioning if she did something wrong or mourning what they had, it’s just straight up “you manipulated me when I was at my lowest and used me for your benefit and then left me broken and alone after convincing me you were all I had to live for just because it wasn’t sexy for you anymore, and I think you planned it out and did it on purpose.” I don’t think she’s ever so bluntly said in song that a subject doesn’t deserve forgiveness

or, imo, been so secure in her convictions that what she's singing about is true

Earlier today, I served as the “young woman’s voice” in a panel of local experts at a Girl Scouts speaking event. One question for the panel was something to the effect of, “Should parents read their daughter’s texts or monitor her online activity for bad language and inappropriate content?”

I was surprised when the first panelist answered the question as if it were about cyberbullying. The adult audience nodded sagely as she spoke about the importance of protecting children online.

I reached for the microphone next. I said, “As far as reading your child’s texts or logging into their social media profiles, I would say 99.9% of the time, do not do that.”

Looks of total shock answered me. I actually saw heads jerk back in surprise. Even some of my fellow panelists blinked.

Everyone stared as I explained that going behind a child’s back in such a way severs the bond of trust with the parent. When I said, “This is the most effective way to ensure that your child never tells you anything,” it was like I’d delivered a revelation.

It’s easy to talk about the disconnect between the old and the young, but I don’t think I’d ever been so slapped in the face by the reality of it. It was clear that for most of the parents I spoke to, the idea of such actions as a violation had never occurred to them at all.

It alarms me how quickly adults forget that children are people.

If the right way is too hard, fuck it. Do it the wrong way.

Folding clothes keeps you from getting the laundry done? Stop folding clothes. Put a basket in your room and throw your unfolded clean stuff into it right out of the dryer, it's fine.

Rinsing dishes off keeps you from loading the dishwasher? Load them dirty and run it twice.

Chopping onions keeps you from making yourself dinner? Buy the freezer bags of chopped onions.

You forget to take your meds and don't want to get out of bed to get them? Start putting them next to the bed.

Can't keep up with the dishes? Get paper plates. Worried about environment impact? Order biodegradable ones online if your local store doesn't have one.

Make the task easier. Put things where you use them instead of where they "go." Eliminate the steps that keep you from finishing the task. Eliminate the task that is stressing you out.

Do it the "wrong" way. It's literally fine.

The general public saw her as at the top of her game and America’s Sweetheart dating the football star. The Brads, Dads, and Chads had something to say but she actually seemed to have more defenders than ever before. Like this is the most recent image the general public has of her

She wasn’t on trial anymore, the scandal was contained, so she didn’t need to put in a plea, but she does actually want people to know and understand her

I want to snarl and show you just how disturbed this has made me

She’s trusting us with her feelings when she absolutely didn’t have to and we should appreciate it for the gift it is

There's something to be said for girlhood being lost and taken so young (the manuscript) and boyhood being clung to until the end of forever (Peter)

what's the consensus for the abbreviation for chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, COSOSOM or Chloe et al. , the latter gives me war flashbacks to uni days 😭

chloe et al. is so funny i'm sorry
