Just 19 and stolen from this earth, you spent your last days on the frontlines demanding justice for all lives, just to be murdered by one of the very lives you fought for. Every system failed you. I’m so sorry. ⁣ ⁣ Black women fight infinite wars. We battle through perpetual pandemics. We fight for the world, and it responds by killing us. I’ve been wrecked by this grief all week, while simultaneously being asked by so many to bear a lot of the weight of this movement. ⁣ ⁣ Understand that when I fight, I fight for Black women, and the movement refuses to center and hold space for us, so I am holding my own. This Saturday, at Dexter Park, we will gather to commemorate Toyin’s life and root ourselves into remembering what she fought for. We will remember all the Black women + GNC people forgotten by the movement. Bring candles and flowers to lay in remembrance.
