I’m excited to share the cover illustration I created for forthcoming book ‘Love Fortunes and Other Disasters’, written by Kimberly Karalius.
The book will be available from May 2015 and is now available for pre-order. It is to be published by Swoon Reads, an imprint of Macmillan Publishing focusing on young adult romantic fiction.
Here is a brief description of the story:
"Love is real in the town of Grimbaud and Fallon Dupree has dreamed of attending high school there for years. After all, generations of Dupree’s have successfully followed the (100% accurate!) love fortunes from Zita’s famous Love Charms Shop to happily marry their high school sweethearts. It’s a tradition. So she is both stunned and devastated when her fortune states that she will NEVER find love.
Fortunately, Fallon isn’t the only student with a terrible love fortune, and a rebellion is brewing. Fallon is determined to take control of her own fate—even if it means working with a notorious heartbreaker like Sebastian.
Will Fallon and Sebastian be able to overthrow Zita’s tyranny and fall in love?”

rec no. 1 → flour house by kimberly karalius / dreamycloud
Lettice Morris has the ability to tell stories in flour, making her drawings come to life within the confines of a flour-dusted cutting board. She amuses the children who come to the family bakery, but she harbors a more magical secret at home: there is a boy living in her late mother’s dollhouse.
why it’s great
Kimberly Karalius has a brand of magical realism all her own and makes good use of it
A lovely, whimsical writing style is used throughout
Lettice is a wonderful, relatable, quirky heroine who will endear herself to you right away
Oleander will steal your heart and that’s all there is to it
Really nice, manageable length overall
Bite-size chapters perfect for reading on the go
reviews
Rosetta Simon says:
I love this story. I read the whole thing today and I found it utterly captivating. You’ve done an amazing job creating Lettice’s world, and making it seem realistic. Your characters really jump off the page and I love your writing style and description.
Talia Heather Winchester says:
This is one of my favorite books I’ve read of all time and I actually teared up when I read the very last chapter and especially the last sentence. It’s so sad to know there’s no more. I really loved Lettice. She was so much fun to read about. This was a beautiful story and I’m determined to read more of your work …
for fans of
The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton
favorite quote
Lettice suddenly felt as if everyone carried secrets in their pockets, up their noses, lost in their purses. Tiny, glittering things. Beads of revelations. She wasn’t used to such beads being kept from her; it made her feel sick.

You Deserve To Cry :: Kimberly Karalius
All the girls in Tokyo love to cry. They work up to it throughout the day, letting strangers step on their toes, allowing their boyfriends to forget important dates, and listening to gossip that was sort-of true, but nonetheless offensive. And when they return home, they find voice messages clogging their machines like hair caught in a shower drain. They press the button and listen to telemarketers say their names softly, pleadingly, while their disengaged parents warn them that they won’t be home ‘till late.

I knew she was going to see my review of her story as her friend Namie was going to send it to her, but I didn’t anticipate how I would feel when it would happen.
How I feel on the outside:
How I feel on the inside:
I’m a new fan of hers, but still I really really adore her style of writing so much <3
And I just found out she follows me on tumblr! I really had no idea she was DreamyCloud! *A* She’s probably going to see this, but gah, my feels right now~!
And if you don’t know who Kimberly Karalius is, I suggest you start reading her lovely little mini novel Pocket Forest, it’s the loveliest little story I’ve read in awhile <3

After the print edition sold out, the e-book version is now available via Amazon!
Since childhood, Harriet has dreamed of exploring forests with Stig Hemming, the boy lost to her in the frayed bonds of an old family friendship. Years later, in the wake of losing her mother, Harriet finally meets Stig only to discover a frightened young man clawing to regain a life no longer his.
The darker parts of the forest beckon, where ghost-dogs patrol a crumbling boarding school and treasure, once lost, must be snatched back with bravery. This  contemporary original fairy tale, complete with all the attendant comforts and threats, will pull you into the woodlands of the heart.

8-year-old Ashlyn spends her days locked inside a birdcage contraptionbuilt by her overprotective mother. She dreams of freedom, but can’t quite let go of the emotional ties that bind her to her home - ties much stronger than the bars over her head.
  She’ll cross paths with…
a dubious doctor, a handsome butler with creaky leg joints, a nefarious, wandering cat, a grandfather with a fascination for pinned butterflies, and a dark beauty with sad eyes and a collection of bird droppings on her dusty doorstep…
only an excerpt of this is left up, which is sad. because it’s beautiful. i started reading this right after kimberly put it up on figment, and eagerly followed ashlyn’s adventures all the way to the end. never once lost interest, never once thought ‘oh yuck, birdcage girl’. because kimberly has talent. and her world is beautiful.
so fall in love with ashlyn, because when kimberly gets this published, i want you to be able to have the same moment of exhilarated AW YISS I KNOW THAT GIRL that i know i will.

What do you think will happen at the end of Boys and Bees?
It's a little hard to tell right now, since I don't think we've gotten very far along in Boys & Bees. However, I do think that at the end Lorabeth will fall in love, and she will find a way with Hedda to solve her boy allergy.
Hopefully the bee killer will be brought to light and arrested--without him murdering more bees, although that is most likely not the case.
