Me when rewatching Upgrade and getting to the end and yapping to my sister about how while characters who aren’t there physically show up for their “I’m tired of being the person that everyone thinks that I am”s, Michael doesn’t not only because he’s being optic-nerve blocked, but also because he doesn’t care what other people think about him. He’s content with being a loser because he had Jeremy to be a loser with; he was satisfied with being seen as a loser with Jeremy when it’s just them and their video games against the world.
And that’s why Michael In The Bathroom hits that much harder. Because Michael wasn’t upset with being called a loser, he didn’t care about that. He was upset about losing his best friend.
