@regalthorn / margaery tyrell ;
he has heard much about her since her arrival in king’s landing — margaery tyrell, the rose of highgarden. his father used to tell him tales of the beauty of highgarden ( secretly, rickard has always thought his mother was jealous — though her gardens are beautiful amidst the harshness of the vale, her flowers could never rival those of the fabled tyrells. ) it is the reminder of these stories that causes him to seek her out — to finally meet the woman this city is captivated by.
he finds margaery in these same gardens. ‘ lady margaery, we’ve not yet had the pleasure. i am rickard arryn — my father was robert baratheon’s hand. ’

her laughter joins his own at that statement. ❛ yes, i’ve already been threatened with the moon door for throwing a snowball at him. and when that didn’t work, he tried my family next. ❜ she neglects to mention she slapped robin for that. she finds ease settle over her at being able to speak freely, without worrying about getting in trouble.
❛ it is quite grey, but i look forward to the warmer weather, and i would love to see that. at home i used to spend much time with aster in the gardens, i would sing to her while she made flower crowns. ❜ she smiles fondly at the moment, eyes glazing over for a second. ❛ we haven’t interacted very much yet, hopefully the two of us can at least begin to tolerate each other. but i must confess it is rather lonely at times. ❜
her words of fond memories and flower gardens pale as he considers his brother’s threat. he has know robin to be ill-tempered — but to threaten his own betrothed ? rickard cannot fathom what would lead robin to such cruelty. ‘ my lady, let me be the first to apologize for my brother’s words — i assure you, they were empty threats that he meant nothing by. ’
‘ you must think very poorly of us vale folk now. if only you had come years ago. things were different when my father was alive — for robin and i both. you must understand that robin . . . he took our mother’s death hard. ’ of course, robin has threatened to throw him out the moon door, too — and that terrifies him. rickard can still remember his mother’s crimson blood on the stones below the moon door. there was little of her even left to bury. petyr baelish — who he had trusted — had done it. it makes him angry, to even imagine that robin could wish to throw his betrothed to her death. ‘ but if he ever threatens you like that again — come to me. ’

songgave / lily belmore ;
she cannot hide her smile at the sweet words he offers, glad for a change from her usual bickering with his brother. she had been slightly worried rickard would be more of the same, she didn’t think she would’ve been able to deal with both of them if their mannerisms were similar. ❛ thank you my lord. i should hope so, but we shall see. at any rate, i’m happy to be here. i have always wanted a brother, i have a cousin, aster, i consider her a sister, so you will technically have two. ❜
a playful smile crosses her face as she leans closer, lowering her voice slightly. ❛ but sisters aren’t always as fun as they sound. ❜ oh, but she misses her sister, misses her family. the eyrie is beautiful, yes, but it isn’t home. she misses nights by the fire singing songs for her family while her and her mother worked on their sewing, she misses aster allowing her to do her hair, she misses the gardens. she misses it all, so much it feels as though a part of her heart was left behind when she came to stay here.
laughter echoes from his throat — genuine and rare. ‘ i’m sure brothers can be worse. after all, robin did once threaten to throw me from the moon door when i embarrassed him in front of his friend . . . ’ nostalgia stirs within his at the memories of a time when he and robin retained some sense of normal between them. they are still brothers, yes — but both changed by years and wars and all that which still lies unspoken between them. a smile tugs at his lips, the memory creating a gentle warmth within his heart.
‘ how do you like the eyrie ? i promise though it may seem glum now — wait until the spring comes ! there is a garden beneath my mother’s chambers that blooms brilliantly. ’ a momentary wave of grief startles him — dead, dead, his mother his dead, so they are no longer her chambers — but he continues nonetheless. ‘ i do hope robin has made you feel welcome. if not, i may be the one throwing him from the moon door . . . ’

❛ you must be rickard, i must confess i have not heard as much about you as i have your brother, though i should like to learn more about the family i will soon be joining. ❜ sweet words are laced with apology, and blue eyes are inviting as she gestures for him to sit with her.
‘ my lady, it’s truly an HONOUR to meet you, finally. ’ he has heard much about his brother’s betrothed, ( and he has long wished to meet the lady the eyrie seems so captivated by ). the image of a lady is in front of him — soft blonde curls, gentle smiles. ( this is the like of the southern ladies he used to dream of marrying years ago, when his father was still hand of the king — when his father was still alive. ) but now childlike fancies have been eclipsed by the harshest of realities — his father is dead, and the vale had shed much blood over southern wars. he has felt his heart shatter ten times over — there is nothing left in him, he thinks, that is even deserving of love. but that does not mean his brother is hopeless. no, rickard prays that lily belmore will make robin happy, give him something good after all that the arryns of the vale have endured.
‘ you shall be a wonderful match for robin, lady lily. ’ he takes his seat next to her, and takes her hand in his. perhaps — he hopes — she will help them become a family, heal the rift that years and hundreds of sorrows have created between his brother and him. he squeezes her hand — a promise. i shall protect you, always, and i shall care for you as though you were my own blood. ‘ and i have always wanted a sister. ’
