The cycles of the Moon
Observing the cycles of the Moon brings understanding the intrinsic tone of each individual born during the lunar phases.
This was a theory that originated from traditional astrology, and astrologers today still find it significant to note it's force.
The 8 cycles of the Moon include: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous (Disseminating), Third Quarter, & Waning Crescent (Balsamic).
The Moon "waxes" when more light is becoming revealed.
The Moon "wanes" when light is fading away to complete darkness.
In the following are simplified interpretations of the characteristics a person may inhabit by the phase they're born under:
⋆ The New Moon has little light. People born under this phase may have a childlike quality. Instinct overrides logic.
⋆ The Crescent Moon is when light is beginning to be revealed. People born under this phase have similar qualities to those of the New Moon but have an added touch of foresight. An energy with focus.
⋆ The First Quarter is when the Moon is half light. There's an element of tension and individuals born under this phase have an ambitious and risk-taking quality.
⋆ The Gibbous phase is when more than half of the Moon is glowing with light. Those born under this phase are aware of the importance of organisation and self-growth, they may be ambitious to exceed in all areas of life.
⋆ The Full Moon is when the Moon is completely infused with light. People born under this phase live a fulfilling life that's rich with experience.
⋆ The Disseminating phase is when light begins to fade. Those born under this phase have a natural incline to give back and share.
⋆ The Third Quarter phase of the Moon is back to being half light. People born under this phase have a philosophical nature and breakaway from the norms.
⋆ The Balsamic phase is when the Moon is less than half of light. Those born under this phase are knowledgeable and spiritual.
These interpretations are by astrologer, Kelly Surtees.
I've simplified her interpretations but I plan to make an in depth post of each phase individually :)

Aspects that are either positive or negative signify that the nature of the aspect will come more naturally to an individual.
If you don't have beneficial aspects, particularly between the Moon, Venus, & Jupiter, this doesn't mean you're doomed, I promise.
By having positive aspects, a person may find it less common to experience the negative qualities.
By having negative aspects, a person may find it less common to experience the positive qualities.
It's a challenge that goes both ways for the native to work through.

The word 'month' comes from the word 'Moon'.
The word 'meno' or 'menstrual' is also rooted from the word 'Moon'. Although cycles can vary, in ancient times, women were able to predict their menstrual cycle by observing the lunar cycle every 28 days.
This further reveals how the Moon came to be associated with femininity.

☾. The Moon is a receptor. The Moon represents how we receive things. A very common word used to describe the Moon in astrology is emotions. How we 'receive' emotions. Think of being nurtured, to be nurtured, implies that you're 'receiving' something. How we receive, and how receptive we are is depended on what sign our Moon is in and the condition it's in. Not only receiving emotions, but also physiologically as well how we gather things, our relationship to food, our relationship to the environment, and how we connect with nature because the Moon presides over nature.
We collect things, and sometimes we speak about things that have some kind of sentimental value, maybe something that has been passed down in the family, or we speak about people who collect lots of things and call them hoarders.
All of these are lunar things. As we go through life we collect things. Perhaps this is what the Moon represents, she is the collector of all our human and physical experiences while we are here on Earth, and depending on the condition of the Moon in a natal chart, she will shed light as to how we go about gathering or receiving or collecting these particular experiences, whether it's physiologically, psychologically, or emotionally, it's gathered all there, somewhere.

The planets don't compel us, they impel us. There's an idea, especially in astrology that the planets are the gravitational forces that are somewhat controlling us or making us do things. Science says they don't do that, however, the only planet where there is some scientific evidence of having an effect on us is the Moon.
The Moon has an effect on water, the tides, and the oceans, it controls the ebb and flow, controls aspects of nature, animals, and even oysters are said to open up during full moons. There's the observation of animals responding to the cycles of the new and full moons.
If the Moon has such a profound effect on the waters, the physical body as science will tell you is made up of a lot of water between 60-70% varying on your body. This gives us something tangible and makes a correlation to the connection between the Moon and us earthly beings.
-This is copied from Israel Ajose (I really love how he explains his ideas, and I'm probably, VERY LIKELY!!!!! going to post more of what's discussed between him and Chris Brennan about the Moon) :))))

Symbolically, when you look out into the night sky, the Moon looks to be the same size as the Sun during the day. This can show that there's some parity between them. This isn't to say that they're the same size in an actual universal, physical sense but from our human visual component when looking at these celestial phenomena, they're the same size. This brings to show how astrologers associate the Father - Mother / King - Queen / Masculine - Feminine / Day - Night, with these planets. They're on par with each other and have equal authority.

The Moon reflects light from the Sun. The Moon is half light, half dark which I find beautiful because it epitomizes the spectrum of human emotions.

The Ascendant changes signs every 2 hours
The Moon changes signs every two and a half days
The Sun changes signs every 28 or so days
The Ascendant & Moon are more personal because they change signs more frequently than the Sun.
