grian keeps secrets. scar plays at incompetence. these are so connected to each other.

it's easy for grian to dismiss and infantilize scar; he does it all the time. he spends so much time in double life denying him autonomy and scar lets him, even feeds it. grian keeps secrets, and scar allows him to think that scar can't possibly know his secrets—the sugar cane, bigb. even when it becomes evident that he does know, grian is utterly dismissive. scar never challenges the 'you-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about' tone, because why would he? scar plays at incompetence.

scar pretends not to know that grian is hiding. grian likes the illusion of scars lack of knowledge. scar is fed by grian's willful disregard. grian is fueled by scars willful ignorance.

in a very fucked up way, they complete each other. they make each other worse and i just think that's wonderful.
