TSATS spoiler alert
I don’t understand why people are complaining about Will not accepting Nico’s “underworldiness” and not loving Nico as who he really is. If he doesn’t, why would he call him “my grumpy little ball of darkness”. No, Will accepted Nico and loved Nico the way he is ever since HoO where Nico still thought others should be afraid of him. That didn’t change in tsats. No matter how much you love someone it still takes time for you to come to accept everything HE loves, and it definitely takes longer if it that thing literally drains the energy out of you. Will has the right to complain from his own perspective about the underworld, being completely new to this place, and he still made great effort to befriend this place.
Another criticism I don’t understand is the part about Nico giving Will his ring. Was it literally stated in the book that the ring has to be a Hades thing only left for Hades’ progeny? Maybe for Nico the ring only stands for himself.
What i’m dissapointed about is that Will’s own personal growth (apart from being Nico’s boyfriend) is merely touched upon. There’re great spaces about Will’s past and struggling that could be filled and visualized in details, but that part wasn’t enough at least for me. How did Will react to the death of his brothers and having to lead the Apollo cabin and being the head medic at a small age? How was his relationship with other campers (Cecil and Lou Ellen?) and for example, the satyr that found him? If I could decide I would have him make a new friend when separated from Nico in Tartarus.(lol
