I miss your smell, your laugh, your hours long talks repeating the same valuable information over and over. I miss the sound of your keys when you came home, and the way you said my name.
I hope you realize that your life was so inspiring. I now understand what mental health really is, and somewhat see what you were going through. I wish that I could have realized what your mental state was when you were here and helped you get through it. As your daughter I can proudly say today that you were an amazing woman. You made going through life’s trials look so easy but now that I’m walking my own path I can understand what you had to endure.

You were everything I wish to be in a mother and woman. I wish you could’ve lived to see that everything you taught me, actually stuck with me (even though I didn’t want to hear it). I feel like I need you now more than ever but all I can do is remember what you taught me and imagine what advice you would give me. I didn’t get to hear your advice on being a mother or a wife but I hope that everything I do will make you proud.

I have big goals and a clear vision of what I want to be in life. I wish you were here to experience it all with me. I make my moves in life just hoping that you get to see and are proud. Ma, if I had you back for a day I would spend the whole time showing you that I appreciate what you taught me and the mother you were. I hate that I had to loose you to see and understand your life and actions you took.

My everything. Everything I accomplish is in your name. You made it all possible. I miss you sooo much! Continue to watch over and direct me. You’re life was not in vain. Your legacy will continue forever.
Bessie Coleman (January 26, 1892 – April 30, 1926) was the first black woman to earn a pilot’s license. Because flying schools in the United States denied her entry, she taught herself French and moved to France, earning her license from France’s well-known Caudron Brother’s School of Aviation in just seven months. Coleman specialized in stunt flying and parachuting, earning a living barnstorming and performing aerial tricks. She remains a pioneer of women in the field of aviation.
Simply Motivated/ The Expressive Queen is running back our Black History Spotlights this Black History Month 2021 . We will give tribute and pay homage to our leaders in the black community throughout the month with a short overview of their accomplishments and talents.
With today being a “snow day” for some schools in northeast Ohio today, I feel it proper to firstly pay homage to someone who was very dedicated in her role in education. Marva Collins (1936-2015) was an educator who, in 1975, founded the Westside Preparatory School in an impoverished area of Chicago. The school first opened on the second floor of her home whose students consisted of Marva’s own children as well as neighborhood children. Her school named Westside Preparatory School offered black children from low-income families the possibility to receive a proper education. She wrote several books and trained over 100,000 teachers to help inner city students learn. What can be thought of as her greatest accomplishment is that her methods of teaching helped to boost students grades so much that her methodology has been hailed by many including President Ronald Reagan.
Thank you Mrs. Marva Collins for putting such a high rank on our children’s education no matter what their past or background looked like.
