“That obvious, hmm?” Her cautious smile remained, though her guard was ever as strong. Crossing her arms, Kassandra regarded Rebecca suspiciously, careful not to betray too much to her new compatriot.
The warrior cocked her head at the proposition, her guarded expression replaced with a particular curiosity. “I can respect a fellow mercenary. That’s an...interesting proposal.”
Typically, she worked best alone, but it might not hurt to have some help for a time. “I’d be willing to entertain, but -” She edged closer, her voice taking a distinctive edge as she spoke. “You betray me, I will not hesitate to end you.”

Try harder! Kassandra thought. She wanted to yell, she wanted to scream, but it wouldn’t help. Regardless of how she had hurt herself, Simone didn’t deserve that. The girl was suffering but no longer, Kassandra would ensure that.
“You’re not stupid.” She insisted, quickly strapping herself into the vehicle before pulling out of the driveway and onto the freeway. “I promise you, you will be fine.”
Muttering soft prayers in her mother tongue, Kassandra fought to stay calm. Old feelings she had long since buried resurfaced, she would not let another child of hers be ripped from her.
@exglebearer
She shook her head and though panic gripped her heart like a vice, Kassandra fought to seem calm. “You’re not gonna die, Simone.” I’ll never let you die.
Cradling the young woman as though she weight little more than a young child, Kassandra lifted her, carrying her swiftly to the door. As she carried her the car she tried to quell the sickened feeling in her chest. She would not let her die, she wouldn’t!
“You need to stay awake for me, Simone.” Please stay awake.
Simone held onto Kassandra weakly, fingers curled around her shirt. She caught a glimpse of her hands. They were pale, way too pale, and blood was still dripping down her hand. She let out a shuddering breath, head falling onto Kassandra’s shoulder. If she wasn’t too tired to think clearly, the amount of blood would’ve scared her.
Simone nodded. “I’m trying,” she muttered. Her vision was blurry and it was hard to keep her eyes open, but she was trying as hard as she could.
As she was put into the car, images of the ambulance flashed through her mind. The sirens, the needles, her fighting the medics. She grimaced, trying to push back the thoughts but they just kept coming. She took a slow, deep breath and clenched her fists, trying hard not to claw at her skin.
“I’m so stupid.”

The spear of Leonidas was a welcome weight in her hand and the staff of Hermes Trismegistus was strapped to her back, letting off a dull glow from the essence it provided to sustain her. Her sandaled feet stepped carefully through the wet underbrush, her breath coming out in small plumes in the chilly, damp air. It was imperative for her to stay hidden, though she had been a bit out of practice in recent years in the arts of stealth...
However, a small misstep, a crack of a fallen branch alerted the other to her presence. Kassandra cursed quietly under her breath in her mother tongue, though she supposed her staying hidden mattered little now. Hand tensed for her sword, the warrior cautiously entered the clearing at the other’s command, prepared for any possible encounter.
“That will hardly be necessary,” she called out, still reluctant to raise her hands. Kassandra’s dark eyes quickly darted over the stranger’s form, noticing the reluctance to put weight on one of her limbs. She would have to keep a note of that should the situation escalate.
“I’m impressed. Few are so perceptive as you.”
@exglebearer
Alma shivered as she drew her bow. The rain pattered against the treetops, mostly sheltering her from getting too wet but she was still slightly damp and freezing cold. The rain was less worrying than the footsteps she had heard moments ago. It wasn’t any of her own, unless it was one of the kids in training, but she had a feeling that it wasn’t.
She stood her ground, turning in a slow circle as she surveyed the wooded area. “If you’d like to come out before I lodge an arrow in your neck, you’re welcome to. But I don’t have a problem with the former,” she lied. She always lied.
She grounded herself when she caught a glimpse of the person. The extra weight on her leg made her want to grimace, but she held it back. Don’t give your opponent a single opportunity. It could be your last.

A few beautiful Greek words that should certainly be used more than they are:
θρυαλλίδα (thryallida): the cause of a (usually disastrous) event
βαβυλωνία (babylonia); the situation where too many people talk over each other loudly, which results in confusion
διαπρύσιος (diaprysios): a person who declares something fervently, passionately
αμετροέπεια (ametroepya): the lack of moderation in words

A strangely girlish giggle, deep and resonant in her throat, escaped Kassandra as she leaned her head on their shoulder. “Can’t help my natural charms, hm?”
Smiling against her shoulder, her heart stuttered for a moment at their admission, even through her drunken stupor. “I...like you too.”
@exglebearer
Kassandra flinched slightly, surprised at her own slip-up. Drinking made her…careless to say the least. You’d think she would have figured out her deception nearly perfectly by now and yet she still had the occasional slip.
However, even drunk she still managed to mostly mask her surprise with a smile, eyes glittering mischievously as she leaned against Charlie. “I am…full of surprises.”
Leaning closer, she whispered gently in their ear, “Σου αρέσει αυτό, αστέρι μου?”
Charlie swallowed hard, trying to control the heat they felt. “I don’t know what that means, but I do know that you’re making it very hard to not have sex with you,” they husked, chuckling. “I like you and you turn me on way too easily.”
“I really like you,” they specified, smiling fondly. “But you’re really drunk, Kassie.”

The former warrior stiffened, her hand shaking slightly. When was the last time someone had said she loved her...a couple centuries? Kassandra had avoided getting too close to anyone since gaining immortality. It hurt far too much.
“Simone, I...” her voice faltered, cracking slightly as tears stung at her eyes. She wouldn’t let anything happen to her.
“I love you, too.”
@exglebearer
Kassandra shook her head, a ghost of a smile pulling at her lips. “Sweet…but I’d rather you slept. You need it.”
She slowly knelt down by the couch, her hand drifting to Simone’s side, lingering by where she clutched the stuffed animal. “There’s nothing to thank me for,” she murmured, avoiding her gaze.
“I should sleep,” she agreed, but she didn’t wanna go to sleep just yet.
“Of course there is. You saved me.” Simone sat up and reached out to hug Kassandra, teddy bear dangling in one hand. “…I love you.”
Simone didn’t think she had ever said that before. Not once and if she had, she didn’t mean it. And she meant it. She really meant it. She loved Kassandra. She was almost like a mom to her now, but mom had such bad connotations to her. All of the moms she had ever had never loved her and they always hurt her, but Kassandra never hurt her. Maybe that was what a mom was supposed to be.

“Care…is that what it is now?” She tried to wink, but probably failed, blinking slowly. “Can’t blame you…but cute? Fucking gorgeous is what I am!”
“Γαμώτο χαριτωμένο. Δεν μπορώ να το πιστέψω,” she mumbled without realizing how she had slipped into her mother tongue.
Charlie nodded, smiling. “Care and a few other things, I’d say.”
They giggled at Kassandra’s resentment of the term cute. They could certainly think of a better word, but if it made Kassandra this flustered, they liked cute even more.
“Yeah, you heard me,” they said, grinning and leaning in close, probably too close. “Cute.”
“Oh,” they breathed. “I didn’t know you spoke another language. That’s pretty…hot.” They were tempted to say cute, but that was a lot more than just cute.

@exglebearer
At the sight of blood, something in Kassandra snapped.
She leapt into action almost immediately, darting to Simone’s side to catch her by the wrist before she fell to the kitchen floor. Stumbling for a moment under the girl’s weight, Kassandra shifted to the floor, supporting her gently as she laid her down. She pulled her hand back to see blood on her own fingers, swearing violently in her mother tongue at the sight.
The immortal had stayed relatively quiet about Simone’s behaviour up until now but cursed at how she could have missed this. Once she was well enough, she would have to have a serious conversation with her. Therapy, medication, anything would be better than this…
Kassandra gently rapped Simone’s cheek, eyes never leaving the girl’s face. She tried desperately not to let the worry show on her face through a scowl.
“Simone…Simone! Wake up.”
Simone grimaced with discomfort as she awoke moments later, the sickly feeling still sitting in her body. She had felt like this before, a time she’d rather not think about but the feeling brought back the memories. It was so stupid, getting shot by a cop. Wasn’t even her fault, but the aftermath was. If she had just went to a doctor sooner, she wouldn’t have been so close to knocking on death’s door. But all of her past experiences rallied against her in her mind. She had been so scared of going back and when she finally did, she almost died but she didn’t. So, maybe hospitals weren’t so bad, but they were scary.
“Kassandra?” she groaned. Pain was radiating from her wrist and it reminded her too much of the bullet wound.
“I don’t wanna die,” she whispered. The plead sounded dumb, but she really didn’t want to die and this was all too reminiscent of a time when she almost did. She was scared of hospitals, sure, but she was even more scared of dying. Which sometimes didn’t make sense considering the things she did, but she was.

Friends who get into trouble sentence starters
“I called someone to bail us out last time. It’s your turn.”
“We probably shouldn’t do this.”
“See you say it’ll be fine? But, something tells me it won’t be.”
“Okay, but they are gonna be so pissed when they see what we did to this place.”
“We probably shouldn’t have tried to surf on the mattress down the stairs..”
“I can’t believe we just prank called him/her. What are we like twelve?”
“Let’s just tell them that the dog did it.”
“I’m picking the lock. But, I just realized that I’m not a detective and this is a hair pin I found in my glovebox.”
“Do you think that alarm means that we’re caught?”
“I’ll fill the bucket with water and you distract him/her while I dump it on their head.”
“This is exactly what we need–a  night out. Let’s go crazy!!”
“Honestly, I think the car looks better after we crashed it.”
“I rang this guy/girls doorbell and ran away really fast??? And they found me.”
“Why is there a giant teddy bear wearing lingerie in my bath tub?”
“Oh my god, why is there an unconscious man/woman on the floor?!”
“We were supposed to be cooking. But, it looks like a murder occurred in here.”
“We broke the window. I think someone is going to notice.”
“I can’t believe we’re trying to climb through a window to get back a pair of your panties/underwear.”
“Shh, they’ll hear us. This is a terrible idea. You are lucky I love you.”
“That cop did not find it as funny as we did.”
“I told you not to hum the law and order theme song while we were being given a speeding ticket!!”

“Not asking you to trust me, just listen.” She glances about the area briefly, crossing her arms as she does so, partially out of habit as well as trying to appear calm and collected. “Though this isn’t exactly comfortable...”
Kassandra would like to able to say this girl was wrong, but immediately upon joining the force, she noticed the propensity for violence herself. Far too many self-righteous, macho-type guys filled its ranks to be trusted with a firearm.
Without another word, Kassandra slowly pulls out her gun, watching the girl closely for her reaction. In one swift movement, she unloads the firearm, letting it drop to the ground with a dull thud.
“Better?”
@exglebearer
It is all Kassandra can do not to laugh. She couldn’t deny, it was rather ballsy of this girl to so outwardly disrespect an officer. Kassandra couldn’t help but be amused. However, a slight quirk of her brow was the only indication of her amusement as she carefully controlled her features.
“I’m sure that won’t be necessary,” she replied, her tone strangely casual. Should she bring the intoxicated girl in for vandalism? Sure, but something told Kassandra there was a bigger problem than a broken window here.
“I’d say we could just talk, but that bat of yours might be a bit of a problem.”
Simone laughed at the suggestion of talking, a little too much but she was too high to control the pure amusement running through her body. “Talk. I haven’t heard that one before. But I don’t exactly trust cops.”
She glanced back at the bat. “Oh, that thing? Well, I don’t feel like getting shot again so, I’d say it’s pretty useless right about now.” And she was a little too high to fight properly, but she wasn’t about to admit that to a cop.
“I think that gun of yours is a bit of a problem too. I’ve met way too many of you that like to use it.”
