While, yes, he's known to secretly draw portraits of those around him, he's never been so BOLD as to present one as a gift of some sort!! Yet, for some inexplicable reason, he felt the need to with Ozy. Why?? Perhaps because the older man is the only one he felt would actually... appreciate the gesture ( his ego certainly seems to enjoy any sort of compliment, after all ). Or perhaps he'll just say... it felt fitting in ways he may never be able to explain or comprehend.

A FLUSTERED groan falls from his lips, rubbing the back of his neck almost sheepishly as he desperately avoids the other's teasing words. ❝ Don't make things so weird now. ❞ How the tables have turned. ❝ It doesn't need anything fancy like that. It's just a simple sketch I did in two seconds. I probably got shit that's way better than that. ❞ He allows his body weight to briefly release, falling to the ground and onto his back with a loud thud in another likely futile attempt to hide his embarrassment. ❝ But, uhh, hey, if you're really that jazzed about it, maybe you can go grab me the cake yourself, yeah?? Red velvet, thanks. ❞

     CHOOSING TO IGNORE KAI’S ridiculous comment, chose to merely focus on the meal on his lap. It was delicious – to be expected of the other, of course, but there was something about eating beneath the stars that seemingly made it even better. Ozymandias liked to think it was just because he was in a good mood; the season and all that, he supposed. As he ate, his mind shifted from the stars to Kai, curiosity growing with each glide of the other’s hand upon their sketchbook. What was he drawing? Ozymandias could ask; however, doing that might mess up Kai’s concentration, and so he opted to just leave him be for the time being. Time passed, his gaze trained back towards the sky and his Tupperware sitting beside him, the scratching sounds beside him a reminder that his present company was still there even without the usage of words. Eventually, though, that relative quiet came to an end, Kai’s pencil no longer gliding across that sheet he had been so intensely focused on. ❝Finished?❞ Ozymandias asked, now turning his attention back to them. How surprised he was to soon be met with a drawing held out to him, Kai oddly sheepish in such a way, that he stared.

      Huh…he didn’t think this man capable of such. That embarrassed attempt at avoiding eye contact said a great deal, the redness on those ears, just as much. Clearing his throat, he reached out, hesitant, almost, as he took the other’s finished sketch in hand. So…this was what they had been drawing. Him. Not only that, but him looking up at the starry sky. They captured the mood beautifully; the shading done so well, that one would think that Kai had captured a moment in time. ❝Your talent is incredible,❞ he finally spoke after a moment, his voice, his tone, one of faint awe. A cook, a baker, and an artist? One would not have expected that from first meeting this man. Sometimes, he came to believe, Kai must have wanted others to only notice what was on the surface and ‘run with it’, as he knew they would have put it. ❝I will treasure your gift, Kai.❞ At the other’s words, he chuckled gently, a tease passing his lips that he simply could not resist. ❝Well, while you are getting your cake, I think I will go and get a proper frame for this. It is only what it deserves, do you not agree?❞

❝ Dunno what to tell ya, 'm busy working. ❞ The grunt that follows his words is quiet as Kai wipes the bar down, excluding the area where the other is seated, of course. ❝ If you're that bored, why don't you go bug one of the other customers?? Sure they'd be down to chat or... whatever else you wanna do, I dunno. I don't judge. Go nuts. ❞ Literally.

for christmas, kai never really got into it. he spent the holidays alone as his parents never cared much for being around for him. for the most part, he would either spend it in his room or with ryouta and reo. after running away, he clearly couldn’t do that anymore and when he was on his own and without a home, he didn’t even care about it at all for obvious reasons.

similarly, ryouta spent his christmas’ with reo as their dad didn’t care much to spend it with them either. ryouta LOVED christmas and loved buying reo a ton of gifts when they were younger, but when kai ran away and ryouta moved out of their family home, he stopped seeing reo for holidays and spent his christmas alone, drinking for the most part. truly a lonely time of year for him.

going back to kai, it wasn’t until kai moved in with wren that kai started slowly getting into the spirit of christmas. wren would prompt kai into decorating, christmas shopping, and gift-giving. while kai would always act like he didn’t care for it, and he truly didn’t at first, he slowly began to see the appeal when he got to spend the holiday with a positive and caring influence in his life. wren’s dad would also come over for a special christmas dinner and the three of them would have a great time.

in a sense, it healed a part of him and now he actually looks forward to christmas with wren and his dad. he’s too broke to buy gifts, but he usually will find ways to give some sort of gift for people he really cares about, whether that be a piece of artwork he did or cooking them their favorite meal. he’s always been thoughtful and it definitely pleases him to be able to express that now.

my god ryouta is such peak cat energy. constantly hissing and scratching at you when you get too close to him, but the second you turn away he's angry that you're not paying attention to him and/or giving him affection. possessive and petty af as well. denies ever caring for anyone but then the second someone else tries to take what he deems his the claws come out. how is this man even able to form functioning relationships
