“Smile.” It’s just the way this scene is an act, set in a secret language between Mon and Tay, every bit as delicate an act as Aldhani, and their implications keep getting deeper and deeper then retreating again, at each point brought back up for air by the reminder that this HAS to look like a friendly chat, friends of the Emperor are here, and then, once she’s revealed to Tay her surprising depth of treason… that last “smile” is an endcap. We’re out of time to discuss this, it’s better if you don’t know. We’re just old friends reminiscing. Her charade is everything to me.
GIVE GENEVIEVE O'REILLY AN EMMY FOR THIS SCENE ALONE!!!!

Ahsoka genuinely believing that her bond with Sabine is strong enough that she can connect with her through the force, and Sabine hearing it, even if she didn’t understand it, and feeling it, was beautiful. Like they really do love each other it’s just that when it comes to just talking to each other rather than magic cosmic force connection they’re kinda both a bit bad at it. But they do care and they’re trying so hard. I love it

Need to ramble about SW to distract myself from everything going on.
Something that's stuck with me about Ahsoka beyond, like, everything is how happy I am for Genevieve O'Reilly? Because I mean, look at how insane the last twenty (!!!) years have been.
Tumblr media
She was cast as young Mon Mothma around 2003 (I don't remember exactly when, but I remember seeing a pic from them doing a wig test that was dated 2003 a little while ago). She got all but one of her scenes cut out of Revenge of the Sith (don't get me started on that I'm still mad about those scenes being cut for so many reasons) and the only one that stayed in is a scene where she doesn't even speak, and that's it. There's publicity photos and some deleted scenes, and that was her Star Wars legacy for eleven years.
And then she gets a co-starring role in Rogue One, getting to play the character again.
And then again in Rebels, getting to deliver half of what I think is one of the best dialogue exchanges about the Rebellion's philosophy—so basically half of Star Wars itself's entire philosophy—that I've ever heard.
And then again in Andor, as a main character, with all her complexities and just like everything about it because it's so flipping good.
And now here she is again in Ahsoka, playing the character past the timeframe of the original role, as a leader, getting to build on practically everything she's done before now.
And now she's not just portraying 'younger Mon Mothma', she is portraying Mon Mothma, she's the definitive version (at least to me, no shade to OG actress Caroline Blakiston) and everyone I've seen and heard talk about her since Andor loves the character.
Just. I love Mon Mothma. I am so happy for Genevieve O'Reilly.

literally all I care about now is wives bo + the armorer and hera + ahsoka with their chaotic overlapping mando/jedi (found) family. grogu + jacen causing havoc with chopper. the armorer teaching sabine how to work beskar to her own liking. ezra finally learning how to use a jet pack properly. hera and bo teaching older foundlings how to fly. the armorer and ahsoka meditating together and having deep discussions about the force and the way. sabine bullying bo about being the most whipped woman in the galaxy. the possibilities are endless

Andor and Ahsoka are both so perfect yet so different.
Ahsoka's unique connection to the force, and to the chosen one, has made her very intertwined to the spirituality of star wars. That is; the things that don't always make sense. The force, the mortis gods, the world between worlds. Her life is so complex, she doesn't fully understand it I am LOVING the mystery in her show. These giant space whales for us to look at and say fuck yeah. Giant space ships and ancient artifacts.. it's all so cool. It feels like an authentic representation of the complex thing that is the force. They "explained" it with midichlorians, but did they really? The Ahsoka show is bringing back some of that magic and I am loving every minute of it. It takes a fantastical approach to the war, and almost reignited that spark that episodes 4,5,6 used to capture its audience way back when.
Andor on the other hand, is great for the opposite reasons. It takes the average person, someone like the viewer, and forces them to deal with this war that is so much more complex than they would ever know. You see Kassian, a soldier, a hired gun. Someone who wants nothing to do with it, unable to escape a modified form of conscription. He is us, he is the definition of the phrase "a product of their time". Being forced to care about it because if you don't, you have nothing. It's gritty, and it feels so real and it's like we are watching a piece of our own history through it.
Mon Mothma shows the complexities of the politics. How the people controlling the war are nothing more than pompous politicians who never actually see the battlefield. They call the shots without firing a single bullet. Having a spot to say something but you can't because it's not safe. Sacrificing everything you have for people who will never show an ounce of gratitude. Doing everything, only for people to accredit the success to the force user with a complicated past. All of your work, sacrifice, and pain discarded as a necessary sacrifice, and not a real problem.
People forgetting about the Jedi because ALL of them were wiped out. The emporer's successful genocide.
The way it ties into Ahsoka so well because even after the empire has fallen, you still have politicians calling the shots for missions they don't understand.
In the most recent episode of Ahsoka, Baylan talks of the cycle. How meaningless and frustrating it is.
Because not even the "good guys" are ever truly good.

You’re able to call your parents “Mom” and “Dad”. They were not born with those names.
You’re able to call your teachers “Mr” or “Mrs” and their last name. You’d get in trouble if you addressed them by first name.
You’re able to call a celebrity by their chosen stage name.
You’re able to call your friends a shortened version of their name, their middle name instead of their first, or a completely random nickname.
You’re able to call a married woman by her husband’s last name, even though she was not born with that last name.
But when someone’s transgender, how does calling them by a name they were not born with somehow become a hassle?
