“Waterlogged” - Original song and accompanying music video.
Artist Statement:
I have been embracing my solo creativity over the course of the pandemic. I used to act professionally in theatre and was always in a show of some kind. The pandemic threw me into an identity crisis. Who am I without this thing that I do? How do I satisfy my need to actively create and transform. I turned my frustration and angst toward music. I have since released an EP and Single under my band name “Blind as Bats”. I challenged myself to learn the ins and outs of production, recording, mixing, and mastering as well as promotion and industry stuff. All of my content is self produced. This song “Waterlogged”, is actually going to be the single release for my upcoming album. YOU ARE HEARING AND SEEING THIS BEFORE ANYONE IN THE WORLD!!
My inspiration for the video was a combination of the techniques we learned throughout the supercut module and the collage module. I wanted to employ elements of color and placement. I also wanted to embrace the juxtaposition of a truly sad song overtop a hopeful image: finding life in creativity at home while writing a song about death.
ENJOY! (And maybe give my other stuff a listen?)

This was SO COOL! I agree, I’d love to see you do a variety of exercises in like... a white room. This is such a powerful piece. Thank you for sharing!
“PosiBodyTivity”
Artist Statement:
For this performance piece I wanted to demonstrate the correlation between body image and the way others perceive you. Many people become discouraged from exercise because they are anxious over the way they think they look. People will want to paint a portrait of who you are when you’re just trying to improve yourself. If i had the space and resources i would have liked to smear myself over a large surface area; ie. white wall or large canvas. Never did anything like this before.

Thank you for sharing! SO POWERFUL. I kept thinking about the different type of resonance that this piece would have if we could see it live somehow as well as filmed. I also really loved the Hitchcock element. That forced angle really leave the viewer straining for the rest of the frame... wanting to see beyond it.
Artist’s Statement
Over the last few months I have been learning about techniques used by directors in the 20th century, mainly Alfred Hitchcock. I wanted to use his technique from Psycho and apply it with a more modern theme about depression and self harm. I wanted to show that these feelings we have today aren’t new for humanity and that we need to focus on helping people who suffer from these thoughts and actions. No matter who they are.

Thank you for sharing! I think you really communicated the anxiety and uncertainty that lives inside each of us when we consider “time”. I also think, on the flip side, this piece feels very meditative and somehow peaceful. Can the passage and reality of time be both?

WOW. This piece felt intimate and personal and so SO very impactful. Thank you for your courage in sharing and letting us in on your reality.
Pricks
A type 1 diabetic pricks its fingers at least 10 times a day. First thing in the morning, before every meal, before working out, before bed. Faces an average of 180 decisions each day around how to manage their blood sugars. In this performs I want to recognize our daily norm, the thing we must do everyday to stay alive and healthy. Recognize the different readings from our Glucometers and how big of an impact they can have on our daily life. Although we are faced with many decisions everyday and finger pricking, living with type 1 makes you stronger and makes you really appreciate life.

Hidden Scars
Art Project 4: One Minute Performance: Part 2
Over 70% of women have experienced sexually harassment. 1 in 6 women will fall victim to attempted or completed rape. Only 3% of women have not experienced sexually motivated violence, assault, or harassment. Women all over the world constantly go through life with the lingering fear of being attacked. These UK studies were conducted with girls as young as 12 years old.
My work is a representation of the mental scars hidden beneath the skin of women who have had to suffer at the hands of men. The red handprints mark the areas of a woman’s body where that men have scarred. People are unable to physically see the damage that rape, assault, and harassment has on a human being. The red prints are there to highlight the constant reminder a person has of an attack on those areas.

This was SO powerful. I keep thinking the same thing as I watch everyone’s pieces... Seeing this live would be so cool and impactful. I appreciate the specificity of the things in the buckets, and the wonderful acting you give us throughout. This piece felt very personal... thank you for sharing!

I really enjoyed this piece! Thank you for sharing!! As I was watching, I kept thinking how cool this would be live! I did laugh! Your project is an example of a simple and effective way to question perception and reality.

I was having a very hard time coming up with a good idea for this project—luckily I had my roommate and boyfriend around to help me brainstorm. Ultimately, I decided on trying my hand in making a short comedy sketch featuring myself, my roommate and my cat! I had a lot of fun making this and felt more comfortable than I thought I would. I normally hate acting, hearing my own voice, and being on camera...but I was actually okay with getting it done! I think my want to make something enjoyable outweighed my camera-shyness. The editing was also fun to do! None of the original audio is included—it was all added in post! I really hope the short is readable and maybe a little goofy, that was the vibe I was going for when I made it. Overall I had a lot of fun with this project, it brought me out of comfort zone but in a good way! I’m excited to possibly do performance art in the future.

This was so very very powerful. I really loved your theatrical and storyline approach to the performance! The editing and timing was also very nice. How many of us walk up to a door and have too much fear to enter?

Title- Sometimes
Sometimes I want to talk with an accent even though I do not
Sometimes I want to stare when I should not
Sometimes I want to live my dreams when I can not
Sometimes I want to yell when no one else would not
Sometimes I want to cry when I must not
Sometimes I want to be me when I ought not
Sometimes I want to ask for help but I could not
Sometimes I want to laugh but I have not
Sometimes I want to tell a stranger they are beautiful when I know I will not
Sometimes I do it anyway

CROSSING - PERFORMANCE ART PIECE
Artist Statement:
In devising this piece, I kept thinking about the concept of crossing over. I constantly hear “Remember to look both ways!” in the back of my mind every time I encounter a street crossing. I think it’s a remnant from when I was a kid learning to ride a bike.
Sometimes, even if you look both ways, something bad still happens. Sometimes, you won’t look both ways and nothing will happen. Sometimes you’re on the sidewalk when your life changes...sometimes you find yourself in the middle for the street. All we can do is look both ways and hope for the best. I wanted to convey that tension in my slow deliberate head movements. I wanted to unsettle the viewer and make them uncomfortable with me in the middle of the street - poised as though I’m ready to spring into motion - but remaining absolutely still except for my change of focus.
In this piece, I am wearing the clothes I would normally wear running (when I cross many streets). The actual action of the piece was slightly longer than one minute, but this is the condensed version.
Think the next time you are “crossing”.

WOW that was infuriating to watch. Because of that, I found it incredibly effective. It was interesting to see the changes in his demeanor and language... and how disrespectful he seems to be toward absolutely everyone. This piece felt intentionally compiled and I could feel the fervor behind it. Thank you for sharing.
Artist Statement.
Being that I am a political person I decided to bring that energy to my Super Cut. I have a strong disdain for Tucker Carlson and his work. I think he is a fear monger that will say anything he needs to given the situation and can change whims on a dime. By definition of his own words, I see him as a child that should in fact do something else, anything else.

This was a really interesting piece! I think you captured the social narrative (look how sexy these people look while smoking cigarettes) and the larger narrative of the individual plots of each of those movies (troubled complex people taking in something toxic).  I very much enjoyed this piece. Thank you for sharing!
Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire is a supercut exploring cigarettes in cinema. Smoking is a toxic behavior that almost seems pushed on individuals through harmful propaganda without the public even knowing. The piece is divided into actors and actresses combined to the song “Smoke Signals” by Extreme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGm5ef2mU0Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDzcBb-wlg0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3WimOBBq-M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrVm9wKXi38 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VeYkS6FfM8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ar496S71DAo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sC6f-Qbmhs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HREKKEcwdHU

This was intense and very VERY effective. I felt as though you captured the exact moments and feeling you were aiming to portray. I especially enjoyed the reverence you gave to each clip... choosing to hang on to some longer than others. Thank you for sharing!!

Artist  statement .
Within  “A call to war”  wanted to capture the moment where we can seen these character have an inner monologue with themselves. Coming to terms with the horror’s that lay before and their ultimate acceptance of their situation. Though their facial expression we can tell what they are feeling. With out them having to utter a single word..

I felt that this supercut had the exact right mix of melancholy, nostalgia, and purpose. I felt as though I was treated to an emotional journey... maybe following people who were living parallel lives. This was beautifully done! (I also REALLY loved the music.)

Artist Statement:
I went back and forth between a couple of ideas for this assignment. I was interested in exploring the evolution of someone or something over an extended period of time. I decided to go with Akira Kurosawa’s use of weather throughout his films. It’s present in every single one of the films and something he continually developed over his 50-year career. Turning it into a sort of trademark of his. Such uses include adding dynamic motion, enhancing the atmosphere, or even reflecting the moods of his characters. Giving him a unique style that no one has come close to mimicking.
