Explanation
Flora is a strong willed,  independent and rebellious girl. Adopted at a young age, she always knew that she was different to the other mermaids. Flora was born without a tail. This visible difference made it hard for her to fit in, and lead her to believe she was never good enough. Despite her parents reputation, their broken marriage has caused her to feel pain and rejection throughout her life. Flora fights an internal battle with herself. She wishes to leave the kingdom and start a new life with Otto, however, she is worried that she may never be able to escape the grasp of her father King Triton and his many spies. In order to fulfil her dream of escaping, she must find the courage to steal her fathers powerful triton, giving her control over the kingdom and the seas.

I chose to go with this colour palette because i think it best suits my character and the vibe I was trying to create. Once I chose this I looked at some alternative typeface choices.

Colour palette developments - While designing my poster I decided to change my characters name to Flora instead of Florence. I think this name is better because it is short and sweet- the word Flora stands for the plant life living in a particular area which is I think is kind of interesting because I’ve designed my character surrounded by plant life. I also think the sorter word looks more aesthetically pleasing.

I am inspired by these two pieces- I like the colour schemes, I would like to swatch a few colours for my final palette

After my initial concepts I chose to go with this one because I felt like it told the story the best. I received some feedback on how to further develop it and this is the basic sketch I came up with after that feedback

BACKGROUND INSPO-
I looked at a range of underwater art for inspiration, I like the use of depth in all of these- they all have a lot going on which I think is interesting and something I want to keep in mind for my poster background

I looked at developing my characters facials- I tried different eye/eyebrow + lip + nose shapes- From this I think I like the middle two concepts the best

After picking the colours for my character I added some details- the patterns on her outfit + her perl necklace- From here I want to make the outlines more consistent and develop a facial expression. ( I also brightened the colours a wee bit)

Before adding the expression to my character I did some colour development- These are some palettes I found off Adobe color. I think I like the last concept because she looks more dark/ mysterious which reflects my character better than the lighter colours in my opinion.

From all of my character sketches I think this one is the most successful, its big and bold with emphasis on my characters hair and body shape. I also like the posture of my character because she is looking up which gives the impression she is exploring / doing her own thing in a sassy kind of way. I’m going to keep developing it incase I come up with something else I like, but at this stage I think I’m happy with this for my final character.
